Discuss these things, ignorant natives [Discussion Thread]
« on: September 02, 2012, 12:21:02 AM »
So... what do you think? What do you want to suggest for new Outcasts?

My next project for this (putting Shintais on hold) is the Messiah, who focuses around building up cults and all that fun stuff.

So I'm brainstorming an Outcast base class which is essentially a good (not Good, but works and is fun to play) version of the Blighter.  The premise is a druid analogue which is obsessed with what's left over when things die, and making them into toys.  Buzzwords: scavenger, carrion, vulture, reaper.

Class name: Reaper of Bone?  Scavenger?

I don't really mind, either way.

New idea: which do we like better, Tainted Scavenger or Carrionwalker?

(If you're wondering why I'm fixated on the name, it's because it governs the tone & content of the fluff.)

The Messiah is all done, except for the Blemishes, which I will continue to work on.

The basic Blemish list for the Messiah is up, along with 2 new Blemishes for them and them alone! (I will be adding more, don't worry.)

One thing you will notice is that the Messiah is going to be Aura focused. Hell, the ones I just posted let you weaponize auras and one of them can seriously wreck cities in a massive radius (at 16th level. If it is Favored.)

Pariah has Suppress Alien Nature in the table, and Suppress Alien Form in the text.

EDIT: also, stuff based on warp should be clarified to use base warp and not the higher warp from Favored Mutilation.

Ooh, nice catch; I'll edit that after classes today.

Another editing thing: you talk about Readied blemishes and Prepared blemishes at different points.  I'd pick one term and use it consistently.

Also, would you consider a feat like Adaptive Style, to let blemishes be swapped faster than 10 minutes?

There's Amechra's genius. You brought it over here. I loved the Pariah and I'm loving the Messiah. Though I'm excited about the shintais, even though I don't understand exactly what they are supposed to be or how they work. Despite that seeing another outcast class is exciting too.

How about one called the Martyr. I'm thinking it could be an outcast that Uses some ability similar to share pain, but it also shares mental damages as well. I'm sure if it too different or not to warrant a base class though, but then I am not that good a homebrewing. I'm more of ingrediant suggester.

Adaptive Style feat...

Final Boss Form?

Nope, that would be a class feature for a PrC... Along with health bars.

As for the Martyr thing... I can see that as a Messiah-specific Blemish, probably working like shield other, but if the effect that's used on them allows a save, they both get to save, and:

If they both succeed: only the Messiah takes the partial effect.
If one fails: both take partial effect.
If both fail: Messiah takes full effect, other takes partial effect.

I'll have to think about that one...

And Shintais are... weird. I actually have to reconsider how I was going to work them, because they are really wonky as ACFs and don't really work as feats... And they don't work as Blemishes either...

Either PrCs, or maybe another Outcast class, that gets the ability to "cast" Shintais, which are a kind of pre-chosen set of Blemishes...

On a side note, I'm reworking Plague-Carriers Breath, and will be dropping Hunter's Venom; I just found the most amazing poison rework, and it is glorious.

I don't know anything about Exalted and the charms. I read something briefly. Are shintais supposed to be combining several blemishes to create a new effect? Or is it making several blemishes into one?

What about an outcast the has some form of control over Taint and undeath. I think it would be fairly interesting that if he died he would turn into an undead and you would have to fight him again. Almost like a living undead. In a sense an entitiy that mocks both life and death.

Shintais, as I said, are something I really don't know what I'm going to do with, and I think that might make a neat outcast, though that's probably what Percy is going to do with his class.

On a side note, I've modified Plague-Carrier's Breath (Psst, sirpercival, one of the poisons would be great for Vxu), and I've added Roiling Chaos Method (feat), and 3 Messiah Blemishes!

Namely, Presence of Paradox, Preach Unto the Choir, and Blessing the Small.

Ok i think I get what the blighter might be about. Instead of life how about mocking creation. Create a skill called craft life, or flesh. Perhaps the outcast creates inside him. Kind of like summoning type class with an outcast feel. Maybe you craft things out of unsual things. Souls, ideas, chaos itself.

Edit: I have name you could use. The Good Sumaritan. Not really related to my idea up above unless you can make it so. Or another outcast name The Prophet.

Or how about The Trinity. Three minds in one body.

What about a class that warps time. Or at least a blemish that does. A class might be cooler though.
Non linear temporal sight (gain insight bonus as well as nullifying all other insight bonuses).
Instant movement (immediate action x 5ft step/warp)
Age creatures and objects. Rusting/disintegrate

Some examples.

I think I thought of a disturbingly cool  outcast. I admittedly was inspired by Amechra saying pregnomancy on the mature thread as well as a race MulletManAlive made for the pathfinder grab bag contest. It was a perpetually pregnant humanoid crab. I also remember reading about Echidna, Mother of All Monsters.

So, I was thinking that you can make one called The Mother. It would act as a Outcast summoner.
I visualize a beautiful white skinned woman but as you see her belly she appears to be pregnant. On closer inspection you notice that her stomach is pitch black, but it is not her skin that's black. Her belly is actually translucent and what you are looking at is her hatchery. You see strange lights pulsating deep into the darkness but what is more frightening are the alien silhouettes moving inside.

I just want to say that the fluff, names, and descriptions of the abilities on these is awesome! I'd definitely like to try this stuff out sometime, when I get the chance.
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.
