Returned template
Returned are the reanimated bodies of dead warriors. Their minds are lost, yet they still retain the deadly martial skill they had in life. Indeed, that is all that remains. Everything else that they were in life is stripped from them.

Returned usually carry weapons, armor, and the tattered remains of whatever clothing they may have been buried with. Flesh rots away quickly after a returned is animated, leaving the creature's skeleton exposed.

Creating a Returned
“Returned” is an acquired template that can be added to any corporeal creature (other than an undead) that has a skeletal system (referred to hereafter as the base creature).

Size and Type: The creature’s type changes to undead. It retains all subtypes, and it gains the augmented subtype for its original type. It uses all the base creature’s statistics and special abilities except as noted here.

Hit Dice: Raise all Hit Dice to d12s, including those from class levels.

Speed: If the base creature can fly, its maneuverability rating drops to clumsy. Winged returned retain a minimal membrane of flesh and feathers on their wings.

Armor Class: Natural armor improves by +1 (this stacks with any natural armor bonus the base creature has).

Attacks: A returned retains all the natural weapons, manufactured weapon attacks, and weapon proficiencies of the base creature, except for attacks that can’t work without flesh. A creature with hands gains one claw attack per hand; the returned can strike with each of its claw attacks at its full attack bonus.

Unlike other undead, a returned's base attack bonus is equal to its full Hit Dice for racial hit dice. Base attack bonus from class levels is unchanged.

Damage: Natural and manufactured weapons deal damage normally. A claw attack deals damage depending on the returned's size. (If the base creature already had claw attacks with its hands, use the returned claw damage only if it’s better.)

Special Attacks: Special attacks derived from race or class features that are bonus feats, martial maneuvers, or extraordinary and supernatural abilities that improve its Armor Class, saving throws, martial maneuvers, or melee or ranged attacks, are retained even if the returned no longer qualifies for the classes that grant them as a result of the template, except for those that can't work without flesh. All other special attacks are lost.

Special Qualities: Special qualities derived from race or class features that are bonus feats, martial maneuvers, or extraordinary and supernatural abilities that improve its Armor Class, saving throws, martial maneuvers, or melee or ranged attacks, are retained even if the returned no longer qualifies for the classes that grant them as a result of the template, except for those that can't work without flesh. All other special qualities are lost. A returned also gains the following special qualities.
  • Immunity to Cold (Ex): Returned are not affected by cold.
  • Resistances (Ex): A returned has resistance to acid 10 and electricity 10.
  • Returned Might (Ex): A returned gains bonus hit points, as though from a high Constitution score, equal to its HD x its Strength bonus (minimum +0).
  • Turn Resistance (Ex): A returned has +4 turn resistance.
  • Damage Reduction 5/Bludgeoning: Returned lack flesh or internal organs.
Saves: Base save bonuses are Fort +1/3 HD, Ref +1/3 HD, and Will +1/2 HD + 2 for racial hit dice. Base save bonuses from class levels are unchanged.

Abilities: A returned’s Strength increases by +2, its Dexterity increases by +2, it has no Constitution score, its Intelligence decreases by -10 (minimum 1), its Wisdom remains unchanged, and its Charisma decreases by -4 (minimum 1).

Skills: A returned retains all ranks in Balance, Jump, Tumble, and the discipline skills for martial disciplines from which it knows any maneuvers or stances. All ranks in other skill are lost.

Feats: A returned retains all feats of the base creature.

Environment: Any, usually same as base creature.

Organization: Any.

Challenge Rating: As base creature.

Treasure: None.

Alignment: Always neutral evil.

Advancement: --. Returned cannot learn new combat techniques beyond what they knew in life.

Aligned Strike (Su) A returned valkyrie's natural weapons, as well as any weapons she wields, are treated as chaotic-aligned for the purposes of overcoming damage reduction.
Electricity Attacks (Su) A returned valkyrie deals 1d6 points of electricity damage with her natural attacks and any weapons she wields.
Martial Maneuvers A returned valkyrie knows several martial maneuvers and stances (initiator level 10th). She recovers expended maneuvers by resting and meditating for 5 minutes. She can use each maneuver once per encounter.
