Battletech
« on: September 27, 2012, 09:57:18 PM »
I've been talking to someone about Battletech lately, and I've been wondering some things that maybe ya'll could help me with.

1) I can't seem to find anything official about any of it, like an official website or something.
2) I am pretty sure there are different editions, but I can't find any sources of information for it, as far as what is what.
3) I can't find much for it out in the net.

The only thing I can find is the Wiki.

From there, it seems like the current edition is either 4th, or "A Time of War".

Basically, my main problem is a lack of organization of the information, the lack of explanation of what is there, et alli.

So: What editions are "better"? Is there somewhere I can pre-view the material (like a torrent)? And just, in general, dump the information on me people.

they just recently published a big all encompassing book, i imagine its in pdf somewhere.

traditionally each book is sorted by year, the earlier the year the crappier the options.

in addition to sorting by year you have Inner Sphere and Clan. Clan is better gear.
The goal of power is power. - 1984
We are not descended from fearful men. - Murrow
The Final Countdown is now stuck in your head.

Anim-manga still sux.

i think its the Total Warfare book thats the comprehensive rule set.

its not a very complex game if you dont try making your own designs... once you get into that hell, they have software (heavy metalp pro? maybe?) to do the figuring.

Read the fiction, played the cards (kurita), played the computer games, universe I know.

The RPG is what I need help with.

What does Total Warfare mean by "the rules for 'tournament play'"?

I'm looking for "beer and pretzels play".

Customization is where it's at.

So is there any real relevance for the editions then?

imo its best as a beer n pretzels game. the high detail rules get in the way.

iv not read total warfare, so i cant speak to its particulars.. just that its the whole rule set. all the versions should be in it.

the highest tech level / latest year is the 'best' stuff.
