[Game] 1.01 - Abyssal Pete's BBQ
« on: September 05, 2014, 12:41:29 PM »
((This session took place around a table. The session can't be interacted with, but the location can be visited.))

Three PCs entered -- Strong Bard *something something* David Bowie (gnome bard, divine representative of David Bowie), Flattop (dwarf cleric of Moradin), and "The Elf" / "The Wizard" (elf generalist 2).

The players controlling Flattop and The Wizard really wanted to "break in" their characters in an arena/brawl.

"Abyssal Pete" is a bar-lgura demon slaver/pit fighter who runs an establishment in the shadow of the Goldburn Mountains. It's rumored that his barbecue/pit arena is built atop a quasi-permanent portal to The Abyss, from which he lures manes for his fights.

Abyssal Pete is notable among bar-lgura demons for his fire breath ability. It's unknown if he has the effect from a magic item, ritual, or whether it's some kind of inherent effect.

Strong Bard *something something* David Bowie opted to seek out a demon bard for a glorious rock-off. He encountered The Heavy Metal Bard (a mechanatrix bard), and they hit it off pretty well.

I gave Flattop and The Elf two options for arena matches: Challenge or Endurance.

A Round is composed of an equal number of manes (CR 1 each) to PCs.

Challenge has the PCs choose how many rounds/waves they want to go. The rewards are set based on the number of rounds, and it's an all-or-nothing reward. If the PCs perish or "tap out" before they complete the set number of rounds, they receive nothing. In the event the PCs complete a Challenge set, they may opt to go "double or nothing" in an additional round.

Rewards for Challenge are as follows:
100 gp for one round
300 gp for two rounds
600 gp for three rounds
1,000 gp for four rounds

Endurance has the PCs fight through successive rounds, earning rewards as they complete each round.

Rewards for Endurance are as follows:
100 gp for one round
200 gp for two rounds
400 gp for three rounds
800 gp for four rounds

Abyssal Pete has been known to "cheat" if he thinks the PCs are too successful. However, he is surprisingly generous and forgiving for a demon -- and in the interest of keeping people fighting and betting longer, has several trained healers on-staff to stabilize dying PCs if/when they admit defeat.

Pete can lure/feed a limited number of manes per day, so if too many are slaughtered in the pit, he calls it an early day and closes the arena to these two matches. He retains additional slaves for fights to entertain himself (and spectators), and will sometimes sponsor fighters who impress him.
"Stuck between a rogue and a bard place."
