IC: A Trip to Lumiose
« on: April 01, 2014, 08:47:09 AM »
It's a wonderful morning to be sitting outside and sipping tea or coffee, comfortably breezy without being chilly. And that's exactly what two certain girls are doing on the balcony of Aquacorde's Café Rivière are doing. As its name implies, the Café provides a great view of the river, the road leading out of town, and the forest beyond.

And that's where Lisette and Aurelie, having just met up to get ready, are supposed to go. The posters have been here and there for a week now, always just one at a time, placed discreetly but visibly - there's one here on the balcony too, incidentally - asking for prospective pokémon trainers and travellers to visit Professor Sycamore in Lumiose City to get a pokédex and gather data about creatures all around Kalos. He's even throwing in a free pokémon.

Adventure awaits, maybe, possibly. But before that, the two have to get to Lumiose in the first place.

Lisette

Lisette feeds Marshmallow a biscuit as she looks at the road out of town,"Come on! You ready to go yet? If Marshy eats much more, I'll have to start calling her Pillow!"

The Cleffa switches from the biscuit to swatting at Lisette's hand.

Aurelie stirs a bit more sugar into her coffee, holding it absently over Bic's head to warm it. "Just a minute, almost done. I'm surprised she ate that much, doesn't she hate sweets?" Bic starts drifting curiously off to one side to investigate another table.

"Salted crackers. Pillow-ow ow ow- ok, Marshmallow here eats them like candy. I think she likes the shapes."

Lisette picks up Marshmallow, who had lost all interest in the food for some mysterious reason, and quietly sets the Cleffa behind Bic.

"Texture too, I'd bet. I'll make some biscotti they can snack on later...mmm, rosemary parmesan. Or black pepper, maybe?" Aurelie rests her chin in her hand as Bic, satisfied there's nothing worth playing with at the other table, turns around to find Marshmallow right behind her and puffs up in alarm.

Lisette giggles as Marshmallow smooches the surprised Bic. "Mmm, sounds tasty."

With puffing doing nothing to defend against squishy pink harassment, Bic instead resorts to contracting in on herself until she's nearly the size of the lighter she was named after.

"Mmhmm. I think I have everything, too!" The coffee cup clinks in its saucer as Aurelie stands up. "Even if I don't, well, it's not too far to Lumiose. I can go without rosemary until then if I have to."

Marshmallow picks up the now tiny Bic and puts her on her head, posing.
"They grow wild anyway, maybe we can find some and save the money. Come on Marshmallow!"

Marshmallow clambers onto Lisette's head, leaving Bic balancing precariously and Lisette wriggles from the ticklish climbing Cleffa. "Eep! Ok! Ready! Go!"

Muffled giggles leak through Aurelie's fingers. "You three look ridiculous! Okay, okay, give me a second." Leaving some money under the saucer as a tip, she scoops up her bag. "There. So, how far do you think we can get today?"

Lisette makes a vague gesture, making the tower of mons on her head wobble precariously,"Until the first wild pokemon? Dibs on the pretty ones!"

"You can't have all of them! ...Oh, whatever. We'll figure something out, but we should leave soon! Let's not waste the nice weather." Aurelie heads for the Café's exit, waving to the staff as she goes. "The coffee was delicious, thank you!"

Wild pokémon are easy to find, for a given value of 'wild'. Birds like pidgeys and fletchlings, common enough even in towns, habitually stalk travelers like Aurelie and Lisette from a distance in hopes of being tossed some easy food, while rustles in the grass just off the road indicate some ground-bound critters being slightly more subtle about it.

Santalune Forest is about a half-hour's walk away, after which, so they've been told, the road takes a somewhat meandering path through it that makes for a light hike of a few hours to get to Santalune City. A path straight through the forest is also possible, though not guaranteed to be faster.

"Will Bic be okay in the forest? She won't burn the place down right?"

Lisette marches along, Marshmallow riding on her shoulder after discovering that the head was a bit of a bumpy ride. Bic had fallen off when she resumed normal size earlier, toppling the entire stack into a bush, though nobody was hurt(except for the bush).

She idly skips a pebble into the grass with her parasol tip.

Aurelie whistles cheerfully as Aquacorde disappears into the distance behind them. "She shouldn't, if she's careful. You won't burn it down, will you?" She tickles the ghost, which squirms and darts out of reach. "I think we should cut through the forest though, it'll be really nice with the weather the way it is."

"Well, we'll just be careful then. Maybe there'll be some interesting Pokémon for us to meet...or some herbs for cooking later." Aurelie heads toward the forest as though the matter had already been settled.

The forest is pretty enough without any fire, as it turns out. Early spring flowers are out in full force, as are the accompanying bugs and birds, and the wind carries the sounds and scents through the whole forest. It feels almost like a sheet of silk on the skin.

Almost exactly like that, in fact.

Which may be attributed to the big, barely visible spider web that Aurelie just walked through without noticing. Lisette can see it, just barely, swaying in the wind around her friend.
