Kingmaker
« on: March 17, 2014, 10:23:25 PM »
I want to run the Kingmaker AP, but my normal real-life group seems to only be able to meet about once a month for various reasons.  So I turn to Play-by-Post.  The trouble is, I've never ran a PBP before, and the only ones I've played in have gotten off to some... shaky starts.  So I don't really know what I'm doing.

Would anybody be interested in playing Kingmaker, and/or being a co-DM?
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Oh, I'd be looking for not more than 5 players, with a 6th (or possibly one of the players) co-DM who would mostly just teach me how to use various PBP tools and "show me the ropes", so to speak.

System would be mostly 3.5, with PF elements.  I'd prefer to keep homebrew to a minimum.

I would be interested, and I could help you with the logistics of PbP as a co-DM. I have several games worth of experience as a player and DM in PbP. Would we be starting out at 1st level?

Yep, starting at first level.

Max HP/level (but this doesn't matter right now since we're starting at lvl 1 anyway)
Ability scores:  4d6 drop low, 7 times (dropping lowest score, roll using the board roller) OR 32 point buy (d&d style)
Classes:  3.5 or PF versions, your choice.  If you choose the PF version of a class, you get the PF version of spells too - no 3.5 Polymorph if you chose a PF Sorcerer, and no Create Pit on a 3.5 Wizard.
Skills:  3.5 versions.  If you have the PF version of a class, you get all the corresponding 3.5 skills as class skills, and an extra skill point per level per skill that had to be split up to compensate.
Feats:  Pick whichever version you like better.  Up to 2 3.5 flaws, and up to 2 PF Traits (one of which must be a Kingmaker Campaign Trait).  We'll be using the PF feat progression (one every odd level) instead of the 3.5 one.  So lots of feats.
Races:  PF version, unless you really like the 3.5 version for some reason.
Optimization Level:  Don't go too crazy.  This is an AP after all, so it's pretty easy.  I'd prefer not to have to alter it too much.  I'm not gonna hard-ban anything, but... don't be a dick.

I was thinking of taking the gunslinger class, but that is dependent on your spin of Golarion.

What is the prevalence of guns in your world according to the guns rules?
No Guns
Very Rare Guns
Emerging Guns
Commonplace Guns
Guns Everywhere

We'll go with the default "Emerging Firearms"

I'd be interested in playing, but I don't really know much of anything about PF. Been a fairly strict DnD player, myself.

That's absolutly fine. I personally know 3.5 a lot better than PF as well

I'd be interested in playing, but would want to play homebrew, so maybe not.

For reasons I won't get in to, I'm going to stick with my "no homebrew" rule, at least for base classes.  Unless there's something that you really, really want to play (in which case, there's no harm in asking), I'd rather stick to officially published classes - I'm more open to feats/spells/vestiges/etc, especially if they allow for things that the game didn't cover well before, like tanking.

Also, Paizo put out a free Kingmaker Players' Guide with ideas for character backgrounds and story elements to help tie your character to the game world.  Worth a read, if you're interested.

Depends on whether FireInTheSky or Stratovarius is willing to play a non-homebrew class.

So I'm guessing I'm out. Or is my math wrong?

Gazzien, Professorgear, Stratovarius, Zook, and either you or FireInTheSky.  Technically FITS has first dibs, but don't count yourself out.

Forgot to mention, we'll be using the PF feat progression (feat every odd level), so take that into account when planning your character.
No PF Archetypes on 3.5 classes, and no 3.5 alternate class features on PF classes.
PF Favored Class system - if you choose a 3.5 class, and the class's favored class bonus makes sense, then you can choose that option.  If it doesn't make sense, we can probably work something out.  Or you can choose the racial option.
