Hear Ye, Hear Ye! It is proclaimed, by King Robert the Magnificent (known better to one and all as "that crazy barker Bob from the hovel round back") that he is in need of champions, defenders of the faith, and noble swains to fight a pestilential invasion, one that threatens to sweep away all that is good and right in the world! For a grave evil has arisen, one that can only be countered by YOU, the blessed inhabitants of the Hamlet of Barf. The basement of your great and glorious king has been overrun by the dreaded housecat peril, and he seeks four men, four warriors of renown and skill, to rid the world of this hateful curse.

He will, upon your accepting of the challenge at hand, promote you to Sir, and gift you a substantial sum of money for your undertaking such terrible dangers. Also to be provided (at cost), is one weapon of your choice, pursuant to all appropriate disclaimers and safety instructions. He will not, however, provide a map to his basement. Mostly because he's barking mad and doesn't know himself.

So come forth, champions of the good and the glorious, and test yourselves against the greatest danger the Hamlet of Barf has ever faced! Except for the War of Bovine Flatulence in 1587. And the Dreadful Plague of Itchy Tumbleweed in 1321. And possibly more. All the same, speak and be knighted, for the glory of King Robert the Magnificent, and a legacy of heroes!

Addendum:
Should you die in the attempt, any remaining gold not spent reverts to King Robert the Magnificent, and not to your widow, or your twelve illegitimate children.
King Robert, recognizing that you may be in his basement for some time, has gifted to you a Wand of Vigour, Lesser, which can be used by one and all. But only one wand for the lot of you, so make it count.
Finally, King Robert gets first choice on the spoils. He's funding this whole endeavour, after all.

On the build front, all sources are allowed. All books, that is. Dragon and Dungeon material I'll have to approve.

And no Chicken Infested. That's not happening

Commoner Handbook might help. It's where I got the idea for the campaign. That and the housecat debates, of course. And Drakensang The Dark Eye, for those of you who know of its Rat Quest.

What's your word on Dragonwrought Kobolds? I've permitted the +3 mental stat shenanigans, but not anything else (such as supposedly sneaking in epic feats).

Any race/type restriction beyond necropolitons? Say ratfolk or the like? Or Dragonborn Mongrelfolk.

I suspect someone might grab the obvious pokemon trainer handle animal build. So I was thinking of a few things rolling around my head, but first let's see what kind of cheese I'm working with.

Usually I just disallow them, because I don't like dealing with all the various rules arguments and stat cheese they engender. If I was going to let them in, would be without even the +3 stat boost for being venerable. Of course, usually I disallow the PHB, so I have a slightly odd taste in restrictions.

No other restrictions right now, other than LA +0. You're a L1 commoner, so everything you do has to come from race and feats, since it's sure as hell ain't like the class is providing much.

It'll be 25gp as a baseline (A dog is 25gp), going up depending on HD and CR.

Also a little surprised no one has gone for the Soulspark Familiar/Venom Spit combo via Incarnum. Was sure I'd see that quickly.

my target pets so far tend to be under 4hd, a have a couple of single hd on the list... i'd be doing any training myself (pre done... to save time and money). i can definitely work w/ 25/hd.

Ha, already tried. Sadly they do not seem to be fire breathing tibbits to sneak in lethal damage.

It answers my question where I shall go with things: Dragonborn Water Orc (+4 Str, -2 Dex, +4 Con, -2 Int, -2 Wis, -2 Cha)

I will become this:

"I'm telling you guys I am a warrior, a hero of legend! I'm not a commoner, does a commoner smash like me? No!"

Minus the armor. Or BAB. Or levels in anything but commoner.

The funny thing is I can say "which" and be completely accurate. Not even red mage was without some stabbiness.
