Bass cowered on the floor, whimpering pathetically, but the other three kobolds seemed surprised by Alth's 'reaction' to the sound.

"Surface dweller dumb like Bass," Kipper said snidely. "Maybe replace Bass with surface man. He make better Rat Patrol, Kipper thinks."

"Surface dweller smart, try to keep me from making mess." Uube adds.

"By 'making mess' he means he'd be more than happy to, and capable of, ripping your limbs out and bashing your bodies into a pulp with his bare hands." Alth said in a neutral tone.  He was dismayed that his trick didn't work and was starting to get irritated with the kobolds.

I hear it's amazing when the famous purple stuffed worm in flap-jaw space with the tuning fork does a raw blink on Hara-Kiri rock! I need scissors! 61!

Alth heard something quietly approaching the group from the passageway that the adventurers had originally entered from. It sounded almost like hooves on the hard stone. By the sounds of it, Nami had also heard the strange sound. However, the rest of the group was unable to hear it over the noisy quartet of kobolds.

Alth pricked his ears at the sound he heard.  "Hold your tongues!" He hissed at the kobolds, and in a quieter voice said,  "We've got company."

He moved to the tunnel entrance and sneaked down hoping to at least get a good look at whatever was coming.

Nami quickly pressed herself against the wall on the opposite side of the tunnel from Alth, hoping to perhaps catch the intruder in a flank.

The four kobolds grew silent at Alth's orders, though Aki only because he stuck his tongue out of his mouth and firmly held it with his hand. Kipper muttered in disgust at him.

A massive figure crept cautiously down the tunnel toward the group of adventurers. The humanoid had cloven hooves instead of feet, and a pair of long horns curled back behind its head. Swathed in black attire, little else could be made out of the creature. Even its long snout was covered by a cloth mask. The only distinctive features were its glowing yellow eyes. Steel shoulder plates, bracers, and shin guards were the only armor the creature wore, though a pair of longswords sheathed in bronze sheaths were strapped to its back.

The dwarf was standing unhidden, dropped into a defensive stance holding Dolard in his right hand while Ovik was held in his left.

"If yeh can speak, state yeh intentions" was said to the new arrival.

The creature paused and placed its hands on the hilts of its swords. However, it made no move to attack.

"I am passing through," he answered, his voice low and gravelly. "What are you doing here?"

James sighed inwardly at the useless exchange.

<At least it may give me a bit of time to discover the creature's nature.>

He planted his feet and turned his piercing gaze upon the creature, as though he were peering into it's very soul.

Bells began ringing in James' ears. The creature was definitely evil.

Alth scrounged around in his mind for any information of what this creature was.

It was likely a Minotaur of some kind, though most Alth had heard of lived in mazes and ate babies.

Still in his defensive stance, the dwarven samurai speaks.

"We be adventurers, stoppin' in this cavern ta take a rest. How about yerself lad? What be yer reason for bein' down here. Are yeh meetin' up with friends? Do yeh have friends followin' yeh? Do yeh need aid?"
