"Canto is a primitive language found in the Darklands. Communication is achieved though percussive hits on body parts, weapons, or cavern walls, and is designed to travel long distances through echoing tunnels."

Want to find out the exact birthday of that lich you just killed?

Just use the Phrenoligy psychic skill unlock.

Quote from: Phrenology skull unlock
"You examine the skulls of intelligent creatures to analyze the subjects’ psychological attributes, since the shape of the brain influences the shape of the skull."

Shitty pseudoscience being treated like fact just to create yet another shitty skill is SO annoying to me, ESPECIALLY when it's shitty pseudoscience that is regularly used as part of the overall justifications for eugenics.

In the case of this spell, there's plenty of qualifying language that makes the intent pretty clear:

Quote
You cast this spell as you draw out a consumable alchemical item to use.
Pretty clear when the spell is being cast. What action are being used here is ambiguous though.

Quote
You cast this spell as you draw out a consumable alchemical item to use.
The spell assumes you are using the item.

didn't even see the whole "increased DC" thing, thats really nice

oh, and your quote on the spell lists it as a "1 standard action", but you mention and the link shows "1 swift action"

The description of the spell says you cast it AS you pull out an item, so I think it's consuming your swift in addition to the action to pull+use an alchemical item.

With course adjusted towards Sharn, the party continues north to meet the main road. Travelers mostly keep to themselves, and House Orion has developed this highway extensively. Every few miles a signpost updates you on your progress and provides a place to rest beneath a dragonshard lantern that wards against wandering creatures. It's no guarantee of safety, but at least a critter won't steal your rations in the night.

Good news: New work location is a beautiful wedding venue on top of a hill, with free food every shift and minimal responsibilities/risk.
Bad news: 20 hours per week, and I tripped and hit my head on the concrete really hard today so now I have a concussion,  :banghead

hugs!!   :hug :hug :hug

Update: I've been fired by the venue with no explanation. They have it in their contract that they can replace guards at-will, so my boss just put a new guard in that spot and cut my hours to 0.

Reminder that once the foundation takes inventory of who's missing from that facility, you will effectively be wanted monsters. You may not have a specific destination at the moment, but this is your head start before a globe-spanning organization starts paying attention.

[D&D 3.5] SCP, Eberron Edition / Character Building Guidelines
« on: June 14, 2021, 03:24:56 PM »
E6 Pathfinder/3.5 (using pathfinder sheets), with the following rules:

Allowed Content
- Most 3E/3.5/Pathfinder content, just run anything particularly cheesy by me first.
- My homebrew
- Oslecamo's Monster Classes, subject to individual approval.
- E6-specific feats like Wondrous Rings (If you single-class the full 6 levels you get access to a capstone feat as well)
(click to show/hide)
Restricted Content:
- Too many bodies. Having a cohort or similar is fine, fielding a platoon and having to resolve 5+ extra attacks/moves/etc every turn isn't. If you want to play at group of characters (via collective or similar) you will need to limit their collective efforts in some way to streamline things.
- Long-Range teleportation: Part of E6's challenge comes from a lack of certain D&D staples. Distances still matter here.
- Traditional extradimensional storage: The Handy Haversack and similar items are effectively artifacts in E6, as they aren't craftable by E6 rules. They are however JUST out of reach of artificers, so there is active research on the concept. The Glove of the Master Strategist is an example of one of the few existing E6-legal storage items.
- Painless Resurrection: Rez still exists in the form of expensive ritual casting, but it's not easy or cheap.
Prestige Class Requirements
As long as a character has maximum ranks in a skill, they may ignore the skill for the purpose of meeting prestige class requirements.
As long as a character has maximum BAB for their level, they may ignore BAB  for the purpose of meeting prestige class requirements.
As long as a character has full casting for their level, they may ignore spell level for the purpose of meeting prestige class requirements.

Taint
- Taint isn't explicitly Evil, but it IS "wrong" in a cosmic order sense. Things that can't be explained by a simple spell effect or creatures that shouldn't exist are almost always Tainted. The primary church in Eberron has a sect dedicated to containing tainted objects/creatures, and the Silver Flame will purge anything that detects as Tainted on sight.
- Taint resistant items such as Jade are binary. Possessing multiple tainted objects will not accelerate the effects of taint, and possessing multiple taint-blocking items will not protect you for a longer period.
- 2x strength Protection From Evil effects (like those of good outsiders) block the passive effects of Taint of being near taint, but not the effects of possessing a tainted object.
- Aberrations and Undead always detect as tainted, but gain no benefit or penalty from taint.

Magic
- Metamagic can be used by consuming additional levels of spell slots (from the same class) equal to the level of the metamagic adjustment +1, instead of raising the slot level.
- Due to being a 3.5/PF hybrid game, 3.5 classes DO have 0-level spell slots for their 3.5 cantrips, but can't learn Pathfinder Cantrips. The opposite is true for Pathfinder classes.

Combat:
Add BAB to initiative.

The Hook:
- You are either a monster, or someone opposed to the monsters being captured or killed by the continent-spanning religious organization dedicated to containing them at all costs. Will you run and hide, seek conflict, or try to release the rest of the other monsters from containment?

Character Creation Basics:
- 32 point 3.5 point buy (Because of compatibility issues with the E6 LA reduction mechanic)
- Pathfinder base (CMB/CMD, Feats at 1,3,5, perception instead of listen/spot, etc)
- Compatibility fix: Treat the +3 class skill bonus as skill ranks when dealing with 3.5 content (since it expects HD+3 as the skill cap).
- XP Tracking: Don't bother. If you have an ability that requires XP expenditure, it is assumed that you are instead expending a magical reagent worth 5gp/1xp in the cost.

On my antifeats, you're correct in that I don't have psionics.

Do my forgings count as spells for the spell antifeat?

Yes.

Eyes in the back of your head: Flanking enemies get +4 attack.
281
Extend Power: The duration of one of your powers is reduced by half. (Oddly, it specifies MY choice unlike the other shitty anti-choices. I don't think you have psionics though, so it probably doesn't matter)
868
Spell Specialization: Damaging Ranged Touch spells have -2 damage.
705
Ram: -1 Size Category when trying to use Overrun.
593
Nefarious Visage: -4 to intimidate and -1 to the DC of fear spells
702
Quicken Turning: Turn attempts take twice as long.

...does your local insane asylum double as a HR recruitment agency? Because that is the only explanation I can find for how easily everyone you work with loses their shit...

Security is a weird business.  Firstly, they limit the hiring pool by having low pay, shit benefits, and shittier hours.  If your relief doesn't show, you're mandated to stay till someone does, which can be 16+ hours.  There aren't a lot of people who can or will put up with that.

Secondly, you have to pass a background check that states you have no felonies, or misdemeanours involving theft/fraud/drugs/violence within a certain period of time (usually 3-20 years depending on where you live stateside) and a drug test.  This MASSIVELY lowers the hiring pool you have to pick from, so you get stuck with whats left.  And whats left are wannaa-be's who couldn't make it in military/law enforcement (or who got permanently tossed from there), college students who need part time jobs who don't give a fuck, retirees who need a part time job, the disabled, and people who can't or won't do more physical work.

Then you tell them to be an authority figure who has limited, if any, authority.  It varies from one site to the next, so what flies at my current site could be a firing offense elsewhere based on what the client wants.  And communication is generally non-existent so you usually find out whats unacceptable after the fact.  Add to this the fact that most sites are autonomous.  The head office will pay checks,, do HR stuff, but you go through your shift lead for any issues.  If e fails to resolve those issues you move up the chain, but your supervisor only knows what your shift lead tells him about your shift.  The District/Account Manager only knows of your site what they hear from your supervisor.  HR only has whatever they hear from your District Manager.  This encourages bullying, tyranny and harassment as it's difficult to investigate, so HR usually just fires whoever complains, fires everyone involved or moves them all to separate sites.  Guards are so scarce there are few unforgivable acts.  Whether you are fired or not depends on who likes you.  If they leave the company, you're back in if you want it.  It won't stop rival companies from hiring you.  If you're a sociopath it's a perfect environment.

So it's a piss poor job with little compensation, long hours and nothing to take your mind off your troubles.  And a population of people with much higher rates of abuse, anxiety, depression or personality disorders than general pop.  Then you put those people next to each other and put them under massive stress.  Watched over by someone who is only watched themselves if things go fairly pear shaped for too long.  Who earns slightly more money in exchange for mountains more stress and overtime.  Who quickly either burns out or becomes a monster in order to deal with it.

In short you have a scarce hiring pool, of mostly damaged people, trying to lowball competitors for contracts, and then finding a way to make ends meet afterwards.  It's generally an untenable situation.

In the ~1 year of experience I have in this field, this is entirely accurate. The silver lining is that some of the smaller companies are COMPLETELY open about how much of a clusterfuck the system is, and let everyone know upfront that the system is broken, and do what they can to mitigate it instead of sweeping it under the rug. My current employer can't afford to pay overtime so he has the entire system set up so that HE's on the hook for a failed shift cover. Amusingly, he also works as a manager for one of the big companies and is positioned to have his business absorbed by them, so they would be absorbing a bunch of contracts that companies like Allied CAN'T deal with easily.

What do you mean about the antfeat choices?

Many of them require choices (like the first one saying you choose a number of skills). Treat them like flaws, don't assign them to things like Craft(Underwater Basketweaving)

Can I use Monster Heritage to have human trait so I don't have go the long way to counted human as well?

Is Path of War good to use? Specifically the feats that give manuevers? I assume I could only pick manuevers from PoW with them if so.

Also is there starting wealth?

Yes, Yes, and Yes (lvl 6)

Also, here's your antifeats. Like flaws, you should make your antifeat selections in a way that makes them at least somewhat relevant when possible.

Antifeat

842, 838, 295, 900, 110, 396

Skill Prodigy: Lose a number of class skills equal to your INT modifier
Skill Focus: -2 to all checks for a chosen skill.
Extra Rage: -2 uses of Rage (if using pathfinder rage, I'll have to figure out an equivalent)
Steadfast: DC vs wind effects is increased by 1.5x
Close-Quarters Fighting: Opponents may make a will save (10+your CHA bonus) to get a +2 morale bonus to atk/dmg/saves. This is a gaze effect
Greater Spell Focus: -4 to your spell DCs for a school of spells.

Eh I'll figure something else out then. Though I'll mention the teleport is a teleport so it's prone to anything that can stop teleporting. And the mentioned Martial Disciplines only give access and not the ability to use them.
As this is an E6 game, spells above 3rd level effectively don't exist in normal play, so even things like Dimension Door are out of the norm, and anti-teleport tech is almost nonexistent.

Tempted Nuclear Dragon, but I don't like the stipulation of the control rod being in the throat.

You can move it to the chest/navel/arm/whatever, as long as the mechanical aspects stay the same. "swallow a weapon as a move action" just becomes "integrate weapon with arc reactor in chest as a move action" or an equivalent.
