OOC Discussion
« on: March 05, 2012, 10:04:12 PM »
Here you can discuss what's going on in-game, make announcements about temporary absences, or what-have-you.

Does my background have enough motivation for you to work with or would you like me to flesh out that subject a little more?

Hunter's Moon. Nice name. Except that's no moon...
Hmm.

OH! I nominate, for our ship name, "Peace Moon"!

Could go with just "the Luna." Or "Pax Lunaris" if we wanted to stick with a "Peace Moon" derivative.

You guys have no idea how long I debated over the name of the campaign. Thesauruses and Wikipedia were exhausted trying to come up with something that felt appropriate. I looked to sci fi and westerns, and space westerns, for inspiration. Finally I just looked up "Blood Moon" (well, Sanguine Moon) and found that Hunter's Moon is an alternate name for the phenomenon. The first full moon after the Harvest Moon, first after the harvest, seemed appropriate to me. :)

If anyone does not get the Peace Moon reference, by the way, please google Peace Moon Plans. You are required to do complete catch-up reading. <_<

... I see Pax Lunaris and shudder. (I've done a lot of that over Latin on these boards lately though, so this might just be a continuation of that, and not an intentional change to the grammatical structure, which would use Luna Pacis.)

Well, as for ship names, try to think of what you want people to think of when you tell them its name. The 'Millenium Falcon' sounds like a fast ship. It can take your cargo from here to there faster than the other ships.
'Serenity' was named after the Battle of Serenity Valley, a place where Mal (the main protagonist and Captain in the show 'Firefly') holds a lot of value and memory, a reminder of what he's lost.
'Bebop' doesn't really mean anything, overall. It evokes a style of music and a lifestyle of a time gone by, but also elicits a kind of frenetic energy, I suppose, as well.

And Peace Moon will either terrify them if they're meta-genre-savvy, or lull them into a false sense of security if they're not!

"What's the license on that ship?"
"3357: Peace Moon. Sounds harmless. Probably a diplomatic vessel."
"Oh god, no! Engage warp speed! I think I see it charging its laser. Get us out of here!"

Nanshork: to answer your question from earlier, your background looks good. As for motivation, should I assume your motivation is simply to learn?  I think having it elaborated on a bit more specifically might help me. Basically, I'd like everyone to have just a short blurb about what pushes their character forward day to day, or in the long run. Something that keeps you going. The galaxy can be a bleak place, especially out in the fringe where people have to fight to survive more-so than in the core worlds. Most of the money you guys get from jobs goes toward patching up the ship, paying for fuel, and trying not to go hungry. Running out of fuel, or having something break out in the black of space without being able to fix it can be far more dangerous than going without food for a few days.

Sounds good.

I can't remember, did we ever figure out what we're doing with languages.

If I remember correctly, languages aren't exactly outlined in the rulebook. I think I'll just assume that most people speak "galactic common" or whatever I described it as before. If another language is encountered, you know it if you can provide sufficient justification for knowing it. Just don't go nuts with that. Most people speak the common language. Most other languages are regional at best, or ancient/lost languages at worst.

Reaper's Moon? Depending on interpretation it is either a reference to harvest time or a reference to something more grim...
Hmm.

Put my sheet and bio up. I honestly can't think of a better image (that doesn't make some of my inspirations blatantly obvious), so John Preston it is!

How about the Eclipse? Short, bad ass and moon-related. We come and go quickly, but where we are we cast is a long shadow of fear in our enemies. But moreover, it just sounds cool.
Hmm.
