Title: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: thecajunone on November 12, 2011, 03:21:56 PM
The new Out of Game Chatter board. Chatter away chitlins and welcome back to the game.  :)

To answer your question Nate: I picked up Skyrim at the 12AM premier. I've probably put about 12 hours into it already. Waiting for it to become night time so I can play again. The glare on my TV during the day is just too intense and honestly I'm trying to pace myself so I don't burn out like I did with Fallout 3.

Remember: Characters who've gotten a good night's rest receives their character level +2 in HP back. A good nights rest in my book is a straight 7 hours sleep or a broken 9 hours of sleep. (Warning I may have low standards of sleep, I hardly ever get any in real life). Getting neither of these but only several hours gets you Fatigued* and only half HP recovered. Getting little to no sleep makes you Exhausted*.

Chuck's sheet has been updated.

How much sleep did he get before the commotion started?  Should I consider him fatigued?
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)

Chuck is not fatigued at the moment, he has received at least four hours of sleep. (I'm assuming the party is taking shifts by four hour intervals between members so everyone receives 8 hours of sleep by tomorrow, assuming cause the party never actually planned anything aloud, people just starting sleeping and picking shifts  :p  )

However if he doesn't receive additional rest before setting out for another journey he will become fatigued quickly. 4 hours after a long day is just a nap in my opinion. So is Chuck is tired? Most likely. Is Chuck officially Fatigued? I''ll say no for the moment.

my sheets updated as well. and guess what, i cant (I'm assuming you mean can) use my AK-47 without penalty now!

also there wouldn't happen to be any silencers that would fit my pistols in the armory would there? or perhaps even one that could fit the AK? (I don't know. Maybe Hudson could look when he gets the chance).

That's fantastic.

True story: My son was named after a video game character.  My favorite 8-bit NES game was Bionic Commando.  The main character's name was Rad Spencer.  The name always stuck with me, and when my son was born we named him Spencer.

Nothing cool like getting free Bethesda games for life, but geek enough I guess.

Well it's a little early to tell, his third birthday is in a couple weeks, but he loves puzzles, reading, and playing on my tablet.  I got a couple of apps for little ones.  He's often asking me to play "colors" (his favorite); which is a simple drawing app.

It was close to the end of her shift, after all the excitement and everyone's settled down it's about time for your shift. State any actions or checks you want to do while your on your shift.

alright well i finally decided to start looking up stuff for Hudson and i came up with the idea of getting some accessories for his AK-47. so after about an hour of looking at modifications that people have done with their own AK-47's, i decided that first chance i get im going to add a grip and a 3.5x scope (if not possible just a red dot) to his rifle. soooo i was wondering what that would add to his attack (if at all) while using it, because i didn't see anything about weapon modifications in the d20 resources.
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: Mystic Lemur on November 29, 2011, 12:22:31 AM
Red dot and holographic scopes are teh shit. Just imagine, no matter how you're holding it you hit whatever the dot is on. For a zombie apocalypse, though, give me an old bolt action rifle with iron sights. I'm saving up, I just cant decide if it's for a Garand replica or if I should just get a Mosin and a good chiropractor. :lmao

I don't know what benefit they would give you in Modern, though. Maybe an equipment bonus to hit or to confirm crits?

is it Builder or Brock that's carrying the fragmentation grenades?

Er... We, uh... only had the one, I think. Unless Reagan has been holding out on us.

well then the two that Hudson is carrying are still on him i guess. but i coulda swore that they were handed to someone.

You guys. Are awesome. Lmao. Gotta keep track of your equipment. Hudson was carrying all the grenades. Then he gave one to Builder. Builder threw that into the gigantic beast chasing you when you fled the hospital. Hudson should have both the other two grenades if I remember correctly. Remembering is hard for me.
(click to show/hide)

In response to your question, Nate,  if you are really interested about a stat raising equipment modification to your weapons...perhaps you can look in the d20 Weapons Locker for rules about adding a scope, it may include such bonuses to your attack. The file is for free on the internet, relatively small, and only requires the common adobe acrobat to browse through. On the chance there is nothing in there about modifications we can possibly homebrew something, IF you find the right equipment.

EDIT: Something I noticed about the new boards. Apparently when you click the thread topic it doesn't bring you to the last post, it brings you to page 1? Lamezors. Did it always work like that?
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: maggieloo72 on December 01, 2011, 11:37:26 PM
Hmm, I noticed that, too. I guess we're supposed to click the newest page number. And perhaps that's where the "New" highlight was.... or should be?
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: Gnomeo on December 02, 2011, 11:55:37 AM
The little round button that says "New" will take you to the last post you haven't read.
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: shallowesoul on December 02, 2011, 02:51:43 PM
well i looked in the weapons locker and it didn't say anything about a bonus to attack when you equip a scope. but instead that it takes an hour to attach the scope to your weapon, and another 15 minutes, and 10 bullets to zero it in. and as for silencers i was a little confused i read that there is a 15 dc listen check to locate the shooter and that you take a -1 for damage. it also said something about cold-loaded ammo but that's where i got confused.
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: thecajunone on December 05, 2011, 10:37:31 AM
Thanks Gnomeo, I'll have to keep my eyes out for this little, sneaky button.

Nate, I'll check those rules myself later and maybe homebrew some stuff in the event you stumble across some equipment.

The game may be a bit slow on my part for a second, I have company staying over for a couple days, I've also been really busy with life lately. Wish me luck on the life part. It's really stressing me and Maggs out.

Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: shallowesoul on December 08, 2011, 07:48:57 PM
just wanted to say to Lemur that i have a action readied to throw a grenade that would take out the bulk of them. while it may not be silent its much more effective. i say that because the second they set eyes on something that moves, and is alive, they would screech which would draw any nearby infected to that location anyways. so i think it would be better to go guns blazing and take out whats there rather than trying to be stealthy. and besides i want a chance to show off the AK-47 in combat.

oh and one more thing. i cant seem to recall if i have been infected yet or not. cause i think the only damage I've taken so far was from the hydralisk.
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: Mystic Lemur on December 08, 2011, 08:16:04 PM
I forgot about the screeching...

No, I think Hudson is one of the few pathetic mortals left. ;)
Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: thecajunone on December 09, 2011, 12:16:55 AM
You were hit by a hydra-*cough* Hunter's spike but you do not feel ill at all and must conclude that the bone blade did not infect you. You are the only member of the party to not get infected yet. Which could be a good or bad thing. Could you imagine Hudson succumbing to the infection and turning? Then the party would have to kill him. That would suck/be epic.

Well it's not too late for Builder to turn either  :smirk

Thanks for playing with a noob GM and some noob players guys. You are helping us have some great fun  :clap Plus I love the the way the game is playing out right now, especially the exchange between Builder and Chuck just now...

Good point.

Let me know who you are shooting Nate. I assumed it was the football player since he was directly in front of you.

Remember guys you can walk through a friendly space that has a friend in it. You can also stand in that same square. After two people a square the way is blocked though.

There is only one left...for the moment. The bus is indeed damaged from somebody's grenade. The fire truck is just outside the map behind the bus, simply leave the map to board the bus. There may be another option still.

Brandon Sanderson is a demi-god, just read Mistborn and you'll know why he was chosen to finish WoT. Granted, he will never be able to fit Robert Jordan's shoes, no one can, Jordan is full on God. I've read all Sanderson's work but the Alloy of Law and I am waiting on the last book from Sanderson for the WoT. But most of that work is actually Jordan's writing before he died. He finished most of the manuscripts and wrote several important parts before he passed away, dictating to his wife and editors what he wanted to happen that he hadn't put on paper. His wife sort of randomly chose Sanderson to finish the series after he wrote a beautiful eulogy on Jordan's site and she checked his background, noticing that he too was a fantasy writer. Sanderson is even quoted as saying Jordan was one of the main reasons he began writing fantasy in the first place so I find it highly fitting he is finishing the series.

Ha ha, I'm blabbering. Sorry guys, me and Ms. Lily are on a romantic get away weekend vacation, and you'll just have to wait until we get back for an in-game post   :P

heheh i already finished Alloy of Law an as always its left wide open for the next one. the thing that makes me sad is that Marsh is the only living person from the original group an he has such a tiny role (only shows him once) but has a religion based around him (as well as most the others). an everyone calls him ironeyes.

Weeee're back!

Marsh was totally fucking awesome even though his role was small, it was still critical. The book does take place some hundred years afterwards, it only makes sense the others would not be alive. Sazed will always be my favorite character, followed by Spook.

Hmm, strange. It's still on my list of things to read. I'm just now finishing up on Arguably by Christopher Hitchens, then I must finish off A Brief History of Time by Stephen Hawking where I left off, then I was thinking of tackling some Jean-Paul Sartre, Existentialism is Humanism. But then my mom buys me a Kindle for Christmas...aww damn, the list never ends. I still have to start book 14 in the Wheel of Time because the last one comes out this year!!! Praise Jordan! hey Tommy i was wondering, what with all this chaos and all. wouldn't it make sense for us to have a passive check for listen and spot kind of like what we had on that 4E campaign we played a while back. cause i don't know about you but i would be doing my best to see and hear everything going on around me in this kind of situation.

If it were written into the rules, then yes, but this isn't 4E.

Sorry Gnomeo, after the mad max comment, I had to.  :lol

Gaming table top tonight with Joey. You'd like this campaign Nate. Everyone is a monster. Joey is a centaur, Austin a minotaur, Maggie's a githyanki, and Robbie is a satyr. 3.5E.

Remember in Chase all actions are processed simultaneously, so post away, all results will be calculated at the end of a "round".

Title: Re: Underground Bunker (OoC)
Post by: thecajunone on February 21, 2012, 10:08:23 AM
It was an amazing one shot. We binge played/drank/smoked for a collective like ten hour+ session with a small sleep break in between. Great plot I writ up around a campaign model on the WOTC website, great combat. Joey throws a grappling hook into this twenty foot tree, wraps it around the lizardfolk's leg at the top and pulls him down. The guy takes the fall damage first, then get's wrecked by Austin's minotaur the next turn. Austin's character was nearly retarded (literally he couldn't barely speak Common) but the +8 str modifier made up for it. Robbie's character spent the entire game trying to kill everyone else in the party and nearly succeeded at the end, it was nuts.

Damn Maggs you're rolls sucked. It's okay, you couldn't have searched/fired/ and everything in one 2 second round anyways. Also, you can pass again if you wish Gnomeo, I know there isn't a lot your character can do right now short of picking up a gun and that doesn't seem to be his style. I was hoping you would kick the door open and throw the gurney out at them but that may not be necessary now.

Whoo. New York was amazing...and tiring. Things move at a different speed up there...more frantic. The air is a bit stale, not as fresh as our Colorado air, I also found the city water to be an unnerving flavor and clarity. Contrary to what people say about Northerners and New Yorker's in particular, everyone was extremely polite and very nice. I don't think I met a single person I would consider "rude" in the 5 days I was there. All in all an amazing experience, probably one of the most in my life, I did such crazy things as go into Flushing where even the Mcdonald's is in Chinese and found this underground food parlor where several vendors hawked wares. I had lamb and some crazy noodles, it was delicious. I also tried baby shark meat, not bad.

But it's good to be home. Sorry for the lull, I did not have access to internet except on my phone but I didn't have any free time anyways.

Oh yeah New York pizza is the best god damn pizza I have ever had. By light years.

Is she? She's a civilian scientist you tell me.

I'm sure she has one (in fact, I think I indirectly gave it to her). I doubt she has precise shot, though.

I highly doubt it too.

was looking around earlier for some ideas on a Mistborn campaign and stumbled upon this http://www.myth-weavers.com/wiki/index.php/Mistborn_(3.5_Class). and then i got curious as to whether or not a movie is going to be made and theres a botched trailer that was uploaded to Brandons site in April which can be watched here http://www.brandonsanderson.com/blog/1074.

You were looking for this? http://www.crafty-games.com/content/mistborn-adventure-game-pre-order-details

A Mistborn campaign would be fun. I played a Wheel of Time campaign once too and it was the bomb, would play again.

Me and Maggs were talking about the movie. Hopefully Hollywood doesn't fuck it up like they do everything. I'm sure Sanderson was smart enough to keep creative control unless that money was just calling his name too hard.

Fuck yeah. With the proper budget then, if they receive one from producers, this could be amazing.

Of course, to do it justice, they would have to have a movie for each book, making it a trilogy. And each movie would have to be at least an hour and a half or they would just be cutting too much out.

I don't know, maybe I'm a book nerd, but the books are always better for me.

Nah, the books are always better. I'd still love to see a Wheel of Time movie, though. I know Universal bought the rights, but they've just been sitting on them. :(

they probably bought them just so no one else could, and cant figure out what to do for the movie.

Yeah seriously. To truly do it justice they would have to make two movies out of each book pretty much. Better off doing like an HBO series or something like Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones. but it'd need a badass budget and cast and an amazing team of writers to do the screen play...

Better off just leaving it alone in my opinion but as always Hollywood's going to try and cash in and the avid reader's like myself can only hope it's good enough that we don't have to be embarrassed and pretend it doesn't exist while "fans" suddenly begin spouting shit like they actually know anything about the Wheel of Time series...

Sheesh, while I'm ranting: Hurry up and finish the last book Sanderson. And Jordan's wife, please don't let them ruin a fucking legendary legacy.

Have you started the series yet Nate? I know Maggie was going to send you several of the beginning books. The plot is HUMONGOUS so it's a little slow to start at times but it's definitely worth while. Makes the plot of Mistborn look like child's play.

i read the prologue of the first book, but I've yet to begin the series. I'm finishing up the Night Angel trilogy by Brent Weeks. I already read the first two and am almost finish with the third one now. so i'll be starting The Wheel Of Time series very soon.

O.O Johnson is gone Builder.

Quote
Johnson's face falls. He closes his eyes for several seconds then opens them and nods. "Understood private. Get back to your post, I'll...handle it as I always have". Johnson turns to the others, his expression is like a rock's but his eyes hold great pain. "I have to...take care of my men. Go on inside the lab. Takimi is inside. She can tell you more than I. I'll return soon". With that he turns and strides off purposefully down the hall to disappear around a corner, following the private.

Personally I think true justice could be served by allowing the victim's families to decide his punishment. I'm sure several of them could come up with some really creative things, I know I could.

Sad thing is though, now they have to go through all the court bullshit, dude is going to be alive and receiving three square meals a day for months and months before they decide on anything. He'll probably get the death penalty in the end I would hope, getting off on an insanity plea would be utter shit.

Nothing about the situation makes any sense at all. I'm not usually a conspiracy theorist but I really wonder if this was a false-flag operation aimed at destroying our 2nd Amendment Rights. I couldn't help but notice the first thing mainstream media jumped on was gun rights. Like fuck the victim's families, let's talk about guns and how no one should be allowed to own one.

As if the guy would have stood a chance or even attempted it if everyone in the theater was packing their own heat.

I agree. No one talks about banning cars or alcohol when a drunk driver kills people, so why punish law-abiding gun owners for what these psychos do? Maybe it's because I'm from Alabama, but I don't understand how so many people could be in one place and nobody had a gun for self defense.

I've been keeping the victims and their families in my thoughts, but I've pretty much been ignoring the media hype (as usual).

Well at least it's not an entire campaign... I've had groups in real life that had no interest whatsoever in the main campaign and would just wander off on their own. It's probably why I had to get good at winging it. But it was a little frustrating when you put hours and hours and hours and hours into an epic campaign.

I played a trick I called the imaginary railroad.  Find out whatever maguffin it was the party wanted and put it in the dungeon you built.

If your party is a bunch of goody-two-shoes, a child was kidnapped and taken into a nearby dungeon by bandits who want to ransom her off.

If your party is just greedy, put all the loot of any value inside the local dungeon.  Everything is ridiculously expensive unless you risk your life to get it.

If your party has an evil bent, tell them that they can make their own lair, if only the nearby dungeon wasn't occupied...

Ahh, the old make your players think they are doing what they want to do. I like your style.

No seriously, that's a really good way to play it out. Because that's exactly how it works. For the most part players are going to want to do whatever it is that makes their characters more powerful, famous, cooler, etc... So by putting the obstacle in front of their path to powerful, etc, it's a guaranteed they are going to head that way.

I understand they're not for everyone, but you haven't experienced nerd joy until your 3-year-old points and says, "That's a nice Star Wars shirt.  I like that."  He can't read yet, but he recognizes the font.

My family brings me joy.  The rest is just life.

Oh I was apologizing if I ever made you feel rushed game wise, I know that kids can take up almost all, if not every single second of your free time. My brother is a father and I've seen it consume his life, leaving little for anything else. I think it's great your family makes you that happy though, that's a special thing. I could never have kids though. I'm too selfish, irresponsible, and have very, very little patience.

I don't feel rushed here.  In fact, this is a better medium for me because I can send responses when I have a few minutes rather than planning a few hours for a gaming session.  I do play in a couple gaming groups, but we're mostly parents and therefore often adjust on the fly when someone can't make it to a session.

Dude, it's weird, I don't know if its cause we are talking about it but I had a dream I was playing table top again with Joey, you, (I don't even remember if you ever played with Joey but it's fun cause he role plays stupid characters) Austin and Maggs, and I wanna say Zack was the DM but I'm not sure. Anyways, it was lots of fun, I remember we were just laughing a lot in real life and then the dream would switch over to the fantasy world, "our thoughts of what everything looked like combined" and it was cool.

So if Builder doesn't roll by tomorrow I'll roll for him, I know dude's been busy and that's cool, I hope he rejoins us soon.

Yeah but maybe he's been busy with life, it gets us all sometimes.

Yep.  Two boys (Spencer turned 4 today) and a holiday schedule have me running in place.  I've also bee planning Holly's birthday gift.  Do you know how hard it is to find a reliable babysitter for a Friday during the holidays?  Did I mention my December has two birthdays in it as well as Christmas?  Yeah, busy with life sums it up.

After I saw the time penalty I decided it was best not to guess unless I had a really good answer.  In hindsight I should have shown Chuck with a blank look on his face.  My best answer was God.  I figured the AI has a complex and "I am what you need to gain entry here" meant we would only pass at Rook's blessing.

I hope they figure out the problem soon cause I cant check the boards anymore other than when I'm at home to use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop. then to top it all off i have overtime this week which struck me as odd cause i have just barely under 40 hours that i work. turns out Wendy's overtime is 30+ hours. so I'm not off till Christmas day most likely.

Uhhh...so from what I understand from Maggs this whole time you've been posting from your phone the last month or so...and posting regularly? And your posts have been pretty good...

Someone's getting extra XP for Christmas.

Ha ha, Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night. I don't expect the next few days to move quickly. Spend time with your loved ones, I believe this life is the only chance we will have to do so. Much love!  :love

I am so sorry!! I've been super self-involved lately and absolutely avoid computers after work... Please accept my humblest and sincerest of apologies for tardiness. Hugs all around :)

I can't believe invisiblecastle is still down. If it's not up tomorrow I'll find another way to roll dice.

Forget this, anyone can cheat if they have enough patience.

This is true, although if I remember correctly one can simply edit the text and make it appear as if the roll is higher.

However InvisibleCastle is still down so we'll go on honor for now and use it.

The post will highlight if you change a roll, but a cheater can edit the post and add a brand new roll, repeating until a desired roll comes out.  Total Crap.  This 20 roll took me 75 rerolls, which means I'm both patient and unlucky.

Rolled 1d20 : 20, total 20

lmao, wow that's funny

For the record, me and Maggie (Lily) are no longer together in real life. I have no idea how this will affect the game as she moves on with her life. Just a heads up if things start to get rough down the road. I'll try my best to keep this thing running no matter what but I can't guarantee anything right now. I know we've come this far. I appreciate you sticking around Gnomeo to help out with the fun for Nathan (this whole game is for him really since he lives too far away for us to play together) and I appreciated the time we had with Mystic and even the short time we had with Pimped (I had to go back all the way to the first couple pages of brilliantgameologists to find some of his posts heh heh). Just wanted to say that.

I've always enjoyed our game and sincerely apologize for my inconsistent postings. But I plan to continue as long as you guys want to. We'll see what happens in the jungle.

No apologies are necessary.  I'm happy to continue, as I have enjoyed this game immensely.

I can't continue. Things have changed since the last post and...it's better if I don't go on for several reasons. I'm sorry. I'm in tears as I write this because this game means so much to me. This is not the way I imagined things going and I wanted to finish this but I can't keep going, I just can't. I'm sorry guys. I apologize. I just don't know what to say. There isn't much to say except I'm sorry and thanks again for playing. This board will be soon moved to the retired boards. If I ever ran another game, you guys would be my first choice for players.

Fuck. Just...fuck.

This game has been pure awesome and while I'm sad to see it retired, I understand completely that sometimes things just don't work out.  I hope all is well, and wish you guys the best in whatever comes next.

My favorite Chuck moments:
Good times were had.

Ha ha! Yeah that was awesome and you had your fire coat so you took like next to nothing damage if I remember correctly. Killed that boss so quick.

I remember when you and Hudson were heading to the hospital and crossing buildings and that one infected tried to jump up to the ladder and just fell lol and then you guys used a sound distraction to escape the Lurker. Good times indeed.

Thanks man. If I could I would keep going but I have so much on my plate right now it's unbelievable. Maybe...maybe one day I can come out of retirement. We'll see.

In the mean time, I'll see you around bud.
