Jac ignores the comment about his shakiness and listens. "Hmph. Conflicts should be done in open, not by trickery." Jac says, using his words sparingly as if they were some overpriced booze. "And dead ones should rest."
Hmm.

"You already do trust me, at least a little. That's why you're sitting here, talking, instead of walking out that door and back into the War of Rose & Thorn. But if you're asking what proof I might have... that walked away with the warden who took the stone. Which I would quite like to have back, but between your friend's assault and my maltreatment at the hands of the Living Sun, it will take me a few days before I'm back on my feet. And by then, I'm sure it will be gone. Much as it would be nice if conflicts were always fought in the light of day, a great many, creatures and people alike, find the shadows a more comfortable place. As to the little fellow, I thought all I did was heal him of his wounds. By now, I'm beginning to get a little worried. Should we go check on him?"

"I believe we should." Sadhbh says, turning to the door. "I'm concerned for his health."

Nodding, Xaver follows.  Who knows what kind of magics were involved last night.

Jac comes along, despite not liking the thought of an even smaller room.
Hmm.

As the little cavalcade troops into the room of the pybyr, they find a rather unexpected sight - complete emptiness. Followed moments thereafter by the owner of the inn storming up the stairs. "That little bastard you brought here just stole from me! My good plates are all missing, and unless the Living Sun find him, I'm going to take the money out of your hides! I've sent a runner to the Wardens, so you lot better sit nice and tight , or I'll be sending out your descriptions too. Understand me?"

Xaver looks to his companions to see what they want to do about this.

"You would waste the time of your city's greatest warriors over dishes, when they are busy with the War of Rose & Thorn?" The Yn Gyntaf says loudly, taken aback. "If I were them, I would throw you in a cage for the insult. No. There are better ways to settle this."

Jac looks at Sadhbh to provide said better ways.
Hmm.

Another pybyr who had been sleeping in the same common bunk room as the alleged thief rolls over and blinks his eyes at the light intruding from the open door, then says "It couldn't have been their friend. He was much too sick to make off with your dishes. I took him to the clan shaman last night, as I feared he might not make it till mornin' and I can vouch that he certainly took nothing with him. He couldn't even walk! Perhaps it was one of your servants?"

The innkeeper stares at the pybyr, his eyes growing cold. "I bet you're just his little apprentice, or covering for him because you two are different from me. Well I won't be having that. So you've just added yourself to this little pile of trouble. The money's coming out of your hide too!"

It was here that the biyou stepped in, placing a comforting hand on the shoulder of the innkeeper. "The pybyr is no friend of ours, but he was someone we brought into your establishment. Do not let the fact that we did honourable works in good faith be held against these men. I will take the burden on my shoulders and work off the debt. All of it."

A slight shake of the head met his response, as if the owner could hardly understand someone being an upstanding citizen. "Fair dues, I will accept the agreement. But you..." Here he pointed at the pybyr who had just spoken. "You aren't welcome here any more, despite the honesty of your coin. You'll need to find another bed for this night."

Xaver looks confused.  These people make no sense, none of them.  Once again he wonders just what complications his traveling companions have forced him to take part in by being in a city once again.

Life is so much easier when he doesn't have to deal with people.

The pybyr snaps his fingers at the Innkeeper in what is obviously a derisive gesture, saying "Ha! Like I would have spent another night in this flea-infested dump, anyway." and turns to leave.

Jac was beginning to question whether all pybyr were liars and thieves. Not that lying was the worst of offenses...even the most honorable of combat required one to deceive their opponent.

He shakes his head and looks firmly at the biyou and says in a respectful tone, "We will be mindful of what you have said."
Eyeing the door and eager to be out of these cramped accommodations, he follows the pybyr out the door.
Hmm.

Xaver follows Jac, then confronts the pybyr suspiciously.  "Why did say that?"

The pybyr shrugs, then says "I thought he was making too big of a deal about it. I also just didn't like him. Who knows if he's even telling the truth? He could have just been trying to squeeze you guys for some coin, since you look like easy marks.

Not from around here, huh?"

"No." Jac says, happy to be outside again. He looks around, wondering if he should watch more of the fights or simply look around. The biyou's words troubled him. There were holy men who worked against those they were supposed to protect? He would have to be wary in the future.
Hmm.

"So... what brings you to Fraca, then?" the pybyr says. His eyes linger on them for a bit, as if he's sizing them up, trying to fill in the blanks in what he knows by just looking them over. "I'm not from here myself, but I know my way around a city, at least."

Xaver scowls.  "We're here, you're here, we can talk about why later.  We have two options, track down the thief while we still can or move on with our lives."

Kiba perks up at the mention of tracking.

"A hunt in a city..." the Yn Gyntaf considers the proposal. "An interesting challenge. I accept."

It was hard to say no to a hunt, even one of a different nature.
Hmm.
