Proposed Handbook: The Advanced Artificer's Album
« on: July 31, 2012, 01:21:51 PM »
The more time I spend playing an Artificer and talking with others who have, the more I realize that the current guide to Artificers is really only geared towards those who are just getting acquainted with the class and are looking at the most bare-boned optimization.  What I've encountered while looking for more advanced information and tactics is helpful, but by and large the concerns I've encountered are that the Artificer is SO complex and versatile that writing a comprehensive handbook for them is a nigh-impossible undertaking.

What if, however, there were to be a handbook that focused on one subset of what the Artificer is capable of, and used that as a baseline for achieving whichever other archetype(s) the player of any given one could want to play?  I'm considering using Craftifice as a baseline, but I also want to make sure I'm approaching things from the correct angle.

I realize that this may be both opening up a can of worms and biting off more than I can chew, leaving me with a mouthful of wriggling invertebrates and a horribly messy computer desk.  However, this class is really lacking a full-resource write-up.  I'd like to hear your opinions on the subject.

I like Craftificers.  They make stuff.  Which is what Artificers primarily do.

The cost reduction handbook covers just about everything a craftificer can do. Going from there is probably the easiest method of going about this.

idk how many of these got ported over.

The original basic Arty 3.0 guide is not really C.O. at all.
It is still quite good.

borg286 had the most recent guide.

edit --- I ported it onto the thread below.

snizor's Mechonomicon ... now ported

http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=8962.0

Recent find from the 3.5/4e transistion:
Epic Destinies ... specifically the Artifact Lord (scroll down)

I've pimped the Psi Arty on occasion - not that it "needs" one.
Heck, Psi Arty 11 / Magic Mantle dip 1 / Commoner 8
... is a viable build.

Lowest level versions of spells - needs porting and updating!  (See replies for extra spells.)

i should have just jumped to page end... my fingers hurt from scrolling. =P

in the existing mechonomicon, or in any new artificer book, which constructs count as homunculi need to be identified. some are only one, others can be either, and a few can also double up as familiars.

oh, and make sure they get the crafting costs right this time, cause in bastian's handbook and the artificer handbook they were both wrong.
