[3.5?] Detect Elves
« on: February 18, 2016, 02:21:04 AM »
At least two other members of my group swear this was a thing. I vaguely remember this, but I half remember it being some sort of joke or an older edition spell so I'm not sure. What book was Detect Elves from? Apparently one of our group members needs the spell for "character reasons".

All I found was an Elf-Bane Spider from AD&D's Dark Sun setting that has a Detect Elf ability.

I don't remember anything like it, but a quick Google search found a 3rd party d20 RPG with it  http://zoriarpg.com  It's in the 'BLUE' book, but when I tried to post the link, it just turns my post blue.

To save you the trouble of downloading the entire pdf, here's just the spell

Detect Elves
Divination
Level: Cleric 2, Sorcerer 2
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 60 ft.
Area: Cone shaped emanation
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 min./level
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
This spell functions as Detect Evil except it reveals Humanoid Elven creatures, ignoring
alignment. This spell does not show alignment of creatures but does indicate the creatures power
level, compared to yours.

Get a pet Bullette.  The only thing they don't eat is elves.

I hope this helps.

Matchstick
Tool
Level: Commoner 1
Components: S, V (proclamation of action helps)
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Target: One pile of sticks.
Range: 5ft.
Area: Any forest.
Duration: Concentration, up to 1 second/level.
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No
You attempt to burn some sticks for necessary heat to survive the night, to boil away deadly bacterial contaminants out of water, and to cook your food which also kills deadly or malicious diseases. If there are any nearby elves they show up and put it out, then roll 1d20 and on anything less than a 19 they are considered hostile towards you and use their actions to draw and ready to fire an arrow aimed at you in a threatening manner. On a natural 20 however they instead remain friendly and offer you bitter disgusting tea & bread for nourishment as one of the elves gives you all the hot air you previously wanted in the form of a pompous speech lasing 2d4 hours.

That's amazing. Did you come up with that or is that from somewhere specific?

Try Detect Favored Enemy with a favored enemy of Elves

Quote
Detect Favored Enemy

(Spell Compendium, p. 64)

Divination
Level: Ranger 1,
Components: V, S, DF,
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 60 ft.
Area: Quarter circle emanating from you to the extreme of the range
Duration: Concentration, up to 10 minutes/level (D)
Saving Throw: None
Spell Resistance: No

Using your passion for fighting your foe, you reach out with your magic and your mind to sense the presence of your enemies.
You can sense the presence of a favored enemy. The amount of information revealed depends on how long you study a particular area.
1st Round: Presence or absence of a favored enemy in the area.
2nd Round: Types of favored enemies in the area and the number of each type.
3rd Round: The location and HD of each individual present.
Note: Each round you can turn to detect things in a new area. The spell can penetrate barriers, but 1 foot of stone, 1 inch of common metal, a thin sheet of lead, or 3 feet of wood or dirt blocks detection.
