I didn't rephrase anything, I merely interpreted the meaning behind it. You can call it a straw man if you want, but that's how it came off. And since your default reputation is that of an ass, I defaulted to not giving you the benefit of the doubt (something you earn by being nice, but you clearly haven't learned that lesson).

As for the dweomerkeeper, you're still wrong (and your inability to admit it is also telling). Why don't you actually bring up your copy of the more divinity we and actually read the description. It says "any components", it doesn't even mention them individually as you claim, which means there's two possibilities, either you didn't actually read it and you're completely making up your quotes, or we have two different versions of MD.

Regardless, the class ability (that I'm reading) clearly states in plain English that it doesn't require "any components", that means zero, zip, nadda, including ritual components of any epic spells you cast using the ability.

Checkmate.

Good try through, through I'd scrutinize everything you've ever read off GitP before ever trying to use it.

You're not getting off that easily, I understand subtlety well and this pretty much reads "good try copying something off another board but you're in the big leagues now". You're simultaneously being condescending and demeaning my min-maxing by accusing me of copying it from some board that I rarely ever read.

1. It's not just a specific spell, every epic spell listed in that section that uses rituals lists them as components, it's not a mistake, rituals are obviously intended to be spell components. You can argue against it if you wish but all the evidence supports my point.

2. I don't know what you're talking about with SLA's, have you ever even read dwe's supernatural spell ability. First of all it turns it into a SU not SLA (otherwise it would allow SR and it doesn't), secondly it specifically states in plain English in the description of the ability that any spell cast as a supernatural spell no longer has any components.

No, I thought you were going somewhere else, like how you can create an infinite damage loop that when passed through Sadism gives you an infinite bonus to your next Spellcraft Check. Also Additional Participants states you need contributing participates or the Spell fails and they are not a Focus or Material Component so it doesn't even work like that anyway. Good try through, through I'd scrutinize everything you've ever read off GitP before ever trying to use it.

Oh how wrong you are...

Check out verdigris tsunami in the epic level handbook pg. 88. Look at the components section of the spell, and see how it says ritual? That means ritual is a component. And as we all know, using the dweomerkeeper's supernatural spell on a spell eliminates all of its components.

So it looks like I did indeed invent this little trick. Funny how, even after over a decade, you can still find new things  :P

Guess I should go post this little trick in "you break it..."

Also (and as pippin and many MANY others have pointed out before me) I really don't appreciate your condescending attitude towards me. "Copied shit off gitp" don't make me fucking laugh, I'm full of originality and this is just one of the many things that I came up with on my own.

I've been a member of these boards (bg) long before you arrived (I think I joined sometime in 03) and just because I lurk more often than I post does NOT mean I am not on the same level of knowledge as you in terms of min-maxing. Your arrogant holier-than-thou attitude really pisses me off and only serves to isolate you and make you come off as a jerk (which I'm sure you are). This is the second time we've butted heads on this board and it's the second time I've wiped the floor with you, your arrogance is unwarranted.

Well...it also gives you turn attempts, which is a nice way to also add persisting to the class without having to give up a school of magic to incantrix (or if you just can't spare the 3 levels for whatever reason). Although, ironically, this also requires either southern magician or alternative source.

5
Oh you don't need Southern Magician, just find a friend with Imbue with Spell Ability. That's the trick I was told on GitP forums.

Honestly, in many cases I'd rather lose the CL to cloistered cleric than lose the feat to SM. Just that one level dip gives you tons of bonus feats/domain feat trade-ins. If you're thinking of persisting buffs with the character (through whatever means) planning domain gives you extend spell for free.

6
wow...I really must have invented this trick since even you are completely unaware of it.

No, all this trick requires is a 21st level character with at least 4 levels in dwe and the ability to take epic spell casting at 21st (though I'll take any suggestions that can allow pre-epic taking of the feat, but as far as I know that cityscape feat can only be taken once). I honestly don't know what you're talking about regarding epic dweomerkeepers.

Researching an epic spell and its final cost is a factor of its final spellcraft DC after mitigating factors. All you have to do is create any epic spell you can dream of, it can have a DC of a billion, it doesn't matter. Then, apply additional ritual casters to the spell until the DC is 1. Epic spells cost 9k GP per spellcraft DC and since your DC is 1, it only costs you 9k total.

Normally there would be no way to cast this spell because it requires (most likely) more casters than there are individuals in the multiverse, however, you're a dweomerkeeper, and since you can cast spells as SU spells thus eliminating their components, and since additional casters COUNT AS components for epic spells, you can now develop any epic spell you can dream of for a mere 9k a pop.

Again, illithid savants are nice and all but it still requires dweomerkeepers to exist in order to steal from them. Also it's not worth being so behind in CL for the racial HD and LA you have to give up. What's that old Caelic rule? Thou shalt not give up CL (though I guess the one is ok for dwe :P )

7
so I'm inclined to believe that taking Mask of the Dauntless is both the best and the simplest way to handle this issue!

Where is that feat located. I am unaware of it.

Kind of the catch there huh? I mean you can sacrifice orphans for free Scrolls of Ice Assassin or by RAW Wish loop for them but that's items. Fission/Body Outside Body is too shady, Lucid Dreaming is a Skill, Hellbreaker/Spelltheif/Ability Rip just steal, etc. If you narrow in just far enough to discount all the better options, of course one of the least useful ones appears to be the best.

It's not really a "catch". I find it unfair when judging a classes power to include items that everyone has access to or ones that would benefit any class equally. Its not about the classes and their individual abilities anymore, it just becomes about the items.

I would hardly call them better options. Spell thief gets you SU temporarily and you need to be high level which means you can't really cheese it with extended duration tricks. Ability Rip is typically something I also use in conjunction with this class since it's so easy, but again it's limited to spell slots per day. Ice assassins are permanent until killed, fucking persist a time stop and come out a second later with an army of great wyrm force dragons with numbers in the trillions...I fail to see why these other class options are better in any way.

Either way, once you hit 21 there's no denying the dweomerkeeper is king, no other class can get free epic spells like that, items or no.

SCM is a very VERY close second imo. In terms of versatility it probably ranks higher (depending on the time scale, as a dweomerkeeper, given enough time, has access to more spells/abilities than even a SCM, that is to say, dwes have access to ALL of them), but, and correct me if I'm wrong, dwes are the only class that can pump out free I've assassins without the assistance of items.

All those twinned fusions and celerities are nice and fancy (although without favor of the martyr is arguable that only one celerity would be usable before the daze kicks in) but they are utterly useless if you don't win initiative. All you need to win any Mage battle is a successful time stop, whoever gets that off first wins.

Either way I'd rather play my SCM that uses circle magic to get her CL up to 50 something and uses her miracles to make simulacrums of pretty much anything. Moreover, due to clever usages of echoing spell, miser with magic, rapid metamagic, and meta magic reduction she effectively has unlimited spell slots.

Free ice assassins = access to any spell or ability in the game.

Supernatural spell at 21 = any epic spell you can think of creating for a measly 9k gold. This IS pun/pun mark 2. Between the infinite stats, immunity to all spells, access to every SU ability (due to ability rip; non-epic, but epic can make them last indefinitely), the only thing this doesn't achieve is the arguably TO ability of pun pun's to make up abilities (which I think is total bs and only one insane reading of manipulate form). To date there has not been another method of achieving this level of power (yeah there's a few infinite stuff out there but nothing that gets everything in one character like pun pun)...so unless I'm missing something tainted scholar/spell dancer/illithid savant have nothing on this (I suppose illithid savants can gain supernatural spell from a dweomerkeeper but it still requires the class to exist and it's still the dweomerkeeper's ability...either way, it's like 30th level by the time you can do what you can do with a standard dwe at 21st; not worth the delay).

That's too TO for my taste.

It might not specifically say so, but I think the intent is for you to lose everything the clone loses. Sure you could argue otherwise to a DM, but I always prefer methods that don't rely on interpretation to methods that need to be fudged because intent that is completely obvious must be argued against.

Either way we're still talking about a cerebralmancer (if it's going to have both fission and ice assassin) or a thrallherd with a fusioned wizard thrall, so at some point wizards come into the mix which also answers the question.

10
To actually answer pippin's original question, no, there is nothing class-oriented in the game other than dweomerkeeper that can cast a costless ice assassin. Sure, items can do it, but since everyone can purchase any item I would say that things like Candles of Invocation cannot be taken into account when comparing classes.

Dweomerkeeper is undoubtably the most powerful prestige class in the game (yes, ignoring thrallherds getting a dweomerkeeper as a thrall, because then it still involves dweomerkeepers) and really should have it's own tier (+3) because of how ridiculously broken it is.

If we ignore Ice Assassin, then dweomerkeeper loses some (but not all) of its power, since dweomerkeepers, once they hit epic, can develop any epic spell in the game (infinite stats, etc...yes this is basically another way to get pun pun without manipulate form (maybe the only other way) that I've never seen anyone talk about (as far as I know I invented it), albeit at a higher level) for 9k gold and cast it for free. So yes, because of a single prestige class wizards are unquestionably more powerful (again barring items).

11
The chief problem with optimization is as the more clear your understanding of which options are the most powerful the more you'll trend towards them creating a stagnation.

That's precisely the problem I run into when crafting a new build. If it's a caster it typically uses similar items, similar spells, etc, with the only salient differences being the class abilities, which occasionally drive the build in a direction that's somewhat fresh, but is seldom enough to make it new or interesting.

Though in terms of efficiency and usability I would pit some of my builds (such as my SCM build) against the best currently known builds for that archetype and it would come out on top.

EDIT: AMF is a fixed range spell...what has stopped us from slapping Reach Spell on it and dropping one with a high CL on the TBoS, by the way?  AMF his ass then nuke with Spell Matrix/Arcane Fusion Macross Missle Massacre of Lesser Orbs?

Don't we need Abj Master Specialist for casting AMFs on others?

The "10^100" challenge is more of a joke than anything. Immunity or the ability to totally avoid the need to even use a statistic isn't even taken into account in the system even through it's superior in every way.

Obviously that's the case, immunities are always better and it's how I always operated from day 1. The point is that it's still an exercise in technical skill though. Optimizing within constraints still requires you to think outside the box. Honestly, these days, it's the only joy I can derive from the system anymore; since having completely mastered it.

Legends of the Heroes / Re: [3.P] Statting up League of Legends champions

Katarina The Sinister Blade - she's probably the easiest, Bloodstorm Blade is just perfect for her. Blood Wind Ricochet for Bouncing Blades. One of the Shadow teleport maneuvers for Shunpo, preferably the move or swift action one, or maybe the standard action with Shadow Pounce. Blade Storm plus Thunderous Throw is the ult, Death Lotus.

Annie The Dark Child - Summoner with a few Extra Spell feats for fire spells like Fireball for Disintegrate, Buring Hands for Incinerate and Fire Shield for Molten Shield. Obviously the eidolon is Tibbers.

I was thinking Kat would be more of a master thrower tef shadow lord type deal. Draven is the obvious master thrower.

If you're playing with pathfinder Annie seems to obviously be a kineticist from occult adventures. One of the main examples for the class is even a little pyro girl with a strange stuffed animal she carries around. It seems to me the class was inspired directly by Annie so it would only be logical to make her one. As for Tibbers, there is actually a template in the 5th bestiary that has to do with some kind of soul-bound puppet.

Of course you wrote all this before OA was released so at the time it was likely a better solution.

14
Oh, I haven't looked at the thing in forever so I forgot.

Edit: yeah, going back and looking at it it's far simpler than I remembered. I thought it required you to be able to pass these checks an unlimited number of times per day, or required you to have +100 to all skill checks, saves, etc.

15
I said "original build".

How the hell do you get your ability scores over 100 with a regular sorc build?

16
Well I can certainly do it at 20th with thrallherd, as you well know. Otherwise, the only other original way I can think of beating all 3 is at 21st level. Unless of course you can get primary contact twice somehow without fusioning thralls, or if you know of some other way to get epic spell casting prior to 21st level that doesn't involve psionics.

In any case TBoS was never the issue for me. It's the 10^100 part that gets me.

17
I think I can do it, but it needs to be 21st level; and I assume by "form altering magic" you mean shapechange and the like. It's really fucking difficult to do this without using shapechange at least during some point in the process.

Also...how does consumptive field apply to ML? Even under transparency rules it shouldn't apply since CL and ML are distinctly different (e.g. They don't stack with each other if you're multi classed so they should be treated as separate stats even under transparency rules).

18
I thought you were referring to my sig char by the same name which is a thrallherd fusion abuse build. He gets 9th level spells at the same lvl as everyone else.

19
How far down broken do we want to go?  I'm pretty sure Azrael is around somewhere, and he got 9's at level 1-3 or so.

Huh?

I would have just suggested the lvl 1 warforged pugilist fighter variant. It's by no means all powerful and can certainly be beaten (through level/stat drain/etc)  but being immune to all damage at level 1 is pretty broken by any game's standards. Also, it's  not bad for a 1 level dip that you can easily take into full caster afterward and only lose the one CL (though I think losing 1 CL for damage immunity is a pretty fair trade).

Min/Max 3.x / Re: How viable is Psion (Telepath) without Thrallherd?
« on: October 24, 2015, 02:02:24 AM »
For me the choice of what discipline to choose is normally based on which discipline has the most must-have powers in order to minimize the amount of expanded knowledge feats I take. Typically this is telepath (schism, dominate, mind probe) or egoist (metamorphosis/greater, revivify, restoration, fission). Also, even if you assume every major enemy will have immunity to mind-affecting it doesn't stop those powers from being very useful in non-combat situations. Your average NPC isn't going to be able to resist your suggestions/dominates/charms, and you can get a lot done by influencing politically or socially important NPCs that are not powerful in other ways.
