The Fastest Imposter In the West (PEACH)
« on: October 09, 2018, 02:25:29 PM »
Basics
D&D 5e
Only Printed Book Rule Materials (no UA, Online content, Homebrew or otherwise)
No monstrous races (dragonborn, tielfling, etc.)
Rolled Stats: 18, 16, 15, 11, 10, 8
Starting at 1st Level
Primarily City Setting

Desires
  • Warlock blasting ["Gunslinger"]
  • Ability to become/imitate/impersonate anyone [Imposter]
  • Cast spells without being detected [subtle casting]
  • Don't want to go Bard even though mechanically it makes sense

First Thoughts
Stats:
Str 7
Dex 15 (+1 human) = 16
Con 16
Int 10
Wis 11
Cha 18 (+1 human, +1 actor) = 20
Race: Human (Variant) Feat = Actor
Class Build: Rogue 2/ Warlock 3/ Sorcerer 15
Thoughts: Human for the Actor feat for the impersonations, Rogue 2 for the skills and the cunning action, Warlock 3 for the unlimited disguise self and blasting "gunslinger," and Sorcerer 15 for subtle spell. I want to go Half-Elf for the extra skills and darkvision but then I'd have to wait so long for the Actor feat.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Alternatives?

Subs?
Goblin or Swashbuckler for Rogue 2.
Blade'lock 5 for 2nd attack on sneaks.
Hexblade or GOO especially for the telepathy.
More Lock with Sorc 3 if you need volume.

Assassin gets 9 and 13 abilities that are
exactly what Actor wants.  Mostly out-of-combat.

Hat or Shard or wtf in Xan items, gets rid of Staff focus.
A ~gun is quite fine as a focus for either/both lock + sorc.

Bard is a no, because only UA new Warforged can hide the focus.
Though some instruments are 2 handed and could qualify
for the latest UA 2 handed focus thingy.
Who's to say that talking to you is or is not, the V component?
Let's see a perception check and an arcana check.
Seems a little too far out there combo.

What about:

Half-Elf
Rogue 3 (Mastermind)/Warlock 3 (Great Old One)/ Sorcerer 14
  • Mastermind for the "acting/imposter" abilities
  • Great Old One for the telepathy
  • Sorcerer for subtle spells

Sure that'll work.  Concept is fine, frontlining is a no.
Won't dominate the party while bringing it all together.

No idea what the class load out should look like.
Priorities :
subtle is sorc 3
actor feat = either sorc or lock 4,
goo is lock 1, lock 2 is disguise at will,
mastermind is rogue 3
sneak on cantrip boost level(s)
etc
