Handbook Discussion / Re: Dragon Handbook Discussion Thread
« on: March 10, 2014, 12:06:31 AM »
Well, this is the place to discuss... stuff...

I was looking through the dragon handbook and I noticed the following:
Quote
Since this list was taking up to much space, I am now putting it here. The full list will be there, and I will simply pull out the notable dragons and post them here.
The race selection portion of the handbook was posted to a google docs page instead of here in the forum. Unfortunately that google doc is now a dead link. meaning the races info is all lost. Can you repost it somewhere please?

Yeah unfortunately my backup seems to have dropped off the face of the earth, so I can't repost it.  :bigeyes

Beyond that, I don't roleplay nearly as much any more, so I keep forgetting to log on here and thus forgetting to redo it.

If anyone wants to help recreate it, just pick a(some) book(s) (and post which one(s) you will do here) and for each dragon within that book, fill out the following:
(click to show/hide)

I will try to work on redoing the list over spring break and whenever I have time when I'm not in college.

Cheers,
Lamp

I'd like to try my hand at one of these. . . Any suggestions for where to start? Is it easier to do low or high CR creatures do you think?

I've got a few ideas of stuff. . .

The ability score increase and Kami skin entries refer to "Shikigami"

I have a PhD in Biophysics, and I've done some research/engineering with genetically engineered proteins that act as molecular sensors which are based on FRET. So if you're interested in that specifically, I could probably help out a bit.
. . .
Excuse me while I go consult google as to what that means, because it sounds interesting.

Edit: Also, since I plan to go into a biology field, at least that would be semi-related.
Here is a link to a paper I was a co-author on (but not the primary).
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/22723868

Also, what do you plan to do with a degree in biology? I might have some advice on that, also. :D
I think I'm going to use this as the subject of the paper, as it seems interesting. If nothing else, expect a pm from me in probably a month when I'll have to interview someone related to my topic. :)

Also, Sirpercival, while I *personally* am not planning to do anything with astrophysics or astronomy, I do know someone who is, and they'll probably want to talk to you.

I'll have to attempt to read through that. . .

And, to be more specific, I plan to major in Biotechnology. Well, Applied Biotechnology (Which wasn't the original plan, but that's a whole different point).

As for what to do with it, I haven't gotten that far yet.  :)

Well... I'm not a theoretical physicist in that I haven't specialized in a field yet (being undergrad), but I am a physics major.
So... what kind of theoretical physics? :P You're probably thinking of something more specific, but "theoretical physics" in actual use is more a term for any kind of physics that involves more math than application (as opposed to, say, experimental physics). There's theoretical classical mechanics, theoretical quantum mechanics, theoretical electrodynamics...
Well, umm. . .

Honestly I didn't realize the definition was that broad. . .

I don't know, I'm just trying to find something interesting. . . I guess some form of mechanics would make the most sense since that's what the class is. . .

In my AP Physics class, we will be required to write a paper on some Physics subject that interests us later on in the year. Well, I'm not a physics person, so the only thing really of interest to me is Theoretical Physics and the like, and that mainly just because its hard to understand. I have to turn in a short paper friday to state what I'm going to do it on, and planned to choose based on who I could get an interview with, as I'll have to do one in a month or two. Given that this seemed the most likely place I had access to to find one, I figured I'd go here.

tl;dr: I need to interview a Theoretical Physicist in a month or two, please let me know if you are one.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Pathfinder: Archetype fun.
« on: November 09, 2012, 04:14:44 PM »
I know somewhere there is a class that can have 3 archetypes at once. You can stack the magician and sound striker bard archetypes and take the spellsong feat in order to extend song duration with spell slots and extend spell duration with bardic music, and you may cast a highly damaging wizard spell (learned from magician) spell and play a damaging song (learned from song striker).  Their are weirder combinations, but that one is weird and powerful.

That's pretty cool.

I ended up going with a Ranger taking Trapper/Falconer/Shapeshifter, but I'll keep that in mind as a back-up character.

Alright, so I was working on a character for PF and realized that with Archetypes, some interesting combinations were possible. (Ex. You can take both Savage Skald and Geisha as a Bard.)

My questions are, what is the highest number of archetypes you can get on one single-classed character?

Can a character with multiple archetypes be made that functions well?

What is the weirdest way to combine archetypes?

Those work well enough for dragons, but I'm looking for something that'll last.
I now realize that I said that to the one of the Dragon handbook writers.  :rolleyes

I thought you said that because you knew.

They pretty much stayed away from these kinds of effects in 3rd edition.
Wasn't sure if there was something in dragon or in one of the "Official, but not published by WotC" books.

River's Ravages (dragonlance, legends of the twins)
Age 2 years per caster level for 1 round per caster level.

Hasten The End (dragonlance, holy orders of the stars)
Bestows a negative level and ages you 10 years per round
I knew I forgot to mention something:
The change should be either a true change, or of a permanent duration.

Those work well enough for dragons, but I'm looking for something that'll last.

I'll have to look later. I'm on the wrong computer for that right now.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: dvati and the multivoice feat
« on: July 08, 2012, 09:36:07 PM »
I was reading the "I've never heard of this...have you?" thread on the gitp forums and I came across a post by the poster roguenewb where he suggested combining the multivoice feat with the dvati race. Is this feasible in a build?

You could probably do a Dvati Warmage going into Rainbow Servant. It would be hard to qualify for Multivoice, but it would let you eventually get 2 spells per round from Cleric or Warmage. Probably not the best use, but not the worst one.

Yea, they got that "Sentient Essence of Primordial Chaos Seeking to Undo All Creation" thing going on. This results in some pretty freaky monsters.

:D Best kind of Chaos.

For people who like breaking the game by controlling unusual undead ( you have to have access to Krynn unfortunately)

Shadow Wight (Bestiary of Krynn) is a 6 HD incorporeal undead. Its strike does normal damage and d8 Charisma damage to living creatures.

A victim taken to 0 charisma loses her feeling of self so completely, she is wiped out of existence, not only killed beyond ressurection but forgotten by all who ever met her.

Krynn is just plain funky. I love Dragonlance, but that bestiary. . .

For example, the Cedar Wretch at CR 4, gets 6 attacks at a +8 each. I placed one of these against 6th level characters, and one of them walked up. . . and got nailed by 2 hits and 2 crits. . . and died.

Another example, the Frost Dragon can also remove you from existence, and the Amphi-Dragon just shouldn't exist.

General D&D Discussion / Re: 3.5 Core Rulebooks will be reprinted!
« on: June 27, 2012, 09:30:56 PM »
I think this is a good idea. My PHB and DMG came from a used book seller, and are in really bad condition. Heck, I don't even have the 3.5 MMI, just the 3.0 one.

I voted for books I liked, and ones I wanted to see updated.

Is there a reading lenient enough to allow the DWK to be a true dragon, but strict enough to disallow the incarnum dragon? I am merely curious here.

Not really. The main (read: only) argument for Kobolds is the "advance through age categories" thing, which is ambiguous at best. Either interpretation places the Incarnum as a TD, only one places the DWK.
