I take it we're all men?

Well, the first five character sheets appear to be. Although given the Biyou are sort of ugly lizard people, I'm not entirely sure.

Everything is set except for background. Not sure how much I should elaborate besides "I left home to make lots of money."
Hmm.

Up to you, really. Although why you chose Hania would probably be useful.

Strat: given the obvious naming and language conventions in play, is there a relative regional or cultural influence for the Biyou? I picked something drastically different based on their reptilian nature, but if there's another source of inspiration I can draw from, I'd rather rename him with something more authentic.

Not particularly. Everything in Arhosa has a name derived from the Celtic language tree. Which does mean the culture names all sound somewhat similar. I've also used Old English and Zulu in my writing, but not here. Given how difficult Welsh and related languages tend to be for non-locals, I'm not going to make anyone use them. I never really designed language patterns when I built the setting skeleton. Just used Welsh, Cornish, and Manx, like I always do.

So, you're pretty much on your own.

I guess mostly I was wondering if there were any limitations or influences I should specifically look to, but it sounds like it's open to interpretation. I don't exactly have any other examples of NPC's or anything from this race to go on, which is why I built up a system of my own in my head.

Not really.

All of this material is made up on the fly. Well, partially. The original Arhosa was designed for a series of PbPs in 2008 or so (you were there, of course). At the end of 2009, the setting hosted a series of 4 novels (incomplete), but without much additional design work. After a long hiatus, this year a short story was published set in Arhosa (it's taken from the first of the 4 novels). And now I'm back on MMX, revamping the setting from end to end (at the suggestion of Prime, actually). So by playing in it, you're sort of choosing which parts grow. Or just straight up writing bits and pieces. Which works for me, because I'll never finish the setting on my own - at some point, I'll become more interested in my fantasy writing again and slow down development work on Arhosa. And because (like most people) my brain's ability to churn out ideas far exceeds its ability to finish them. Editing is such a pain.

Eventually I'll finish with Rituals and then you can point me at something else.

Or someone else could help me finish with Rituals.   :p

Sorry, don't understand the Ritual system enough to help. Maybe once I see it in play...

Fluff and flavor text, however, I can freely help anyone with. :D

It's actually, at its core, very simple. Sacrifice a living creature, gain a benefit depending on that creature's HD total. And sometimes depending on the creature's abilities. The ritual takes place during the sacrifice, but is really a Spellcraft check in gameplay terms.

Well, there's about 20 kingdoms out there in need of some expansion from the two lines in the Overview post...  :whistle

Also, the first IC post is now up and good to go. It's a wonderful new world. :D

I think at least mine and Skydragon's characters should know each other. My character is basically a con-man, and his is a businessman of questionable scruples... So they could work well together, my guy driving up bids, etc.

Or was the idea that we all know each other? If so... well two down, four to go. :P

SDK did say he was hiring a bodyguard. As a sellsword, I could be that bodyguard... though I have a tendency to be a bit excitable when combat is required. ;)

I'll be out of town this weekend, and perhaps without internet. Will try to get an introductory post up tonight sometime, but no promises.

Modified my character's name after doing some light research into Welsh names and naming conventions, though it wasn't necessary. It fits my tendency to borrow aspects from other characters I've built and re-purposing them for new campaigns, though.

No worries, we're still sorting a few things out.

I do that all the time. Most of the names of PCs on my custom classes are characters I've played, or from some of my stories. It's easier when you don't have to think up a complete background.
