D&D 5e / The Fastest Imposter In the West (PEACH)
« on: October 09, 2018, 02:25:29 PM »
D&D 5e
Only Printed Book Rule Materials (no UA, Online content, Homebrew or otherwise)
No monstrous races (dragonborn, tielfling, etc.)
Rolled Stats: 18, 16, 15, 11, 10, 8
Starting at 1st Level
Primarily City Setting

  • Warlock blasting ["Gunslinger"]
  • Ability to become/imitate/impersonate anyone [Imposter]
  • Cast spells without being detected [subtle casting]
  • Don't want to go Bard even though mechanically it makes sense

First Thoughts
Str 7
Dex 15 (+1 human) = 16
Con 16
Int 10
Wis 11
Cha 18 (+1 human, +1 actor) = 20
Race: Human (Variant) Feat = Actor
Class Build: Rogue 2/ Warlock 3/ Sorcerer 15
Thoughts: Human for the Actor feat for the impersonations, Rogue 2 for the skills and the cunning action, Warlock 3 for the unlimited disguise self and blasting "gunslinger," and Sorcerer 15 for subtle spell. I want to go Half-Elf for the extra skills and darkvision but then I'd have to wait so long for the Actor feat.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Alternatives?

Follow up, if you are only playing a campaign that goes from 1st to 10th level and then ends, what kinds of builds would you recommend?
Winged Tielfing Warlock whose best buds with a Disciple of Goodberry Cleric and a Lore Bard?
You'd prefer a warlock 1-10 over a wizard 1-10?

Anyone got a list of character builds they would recommend for 5th? I'm starting a new campaign and I wanted to see some solid ideas?

Here is a link on how to get around geographical restrictions if you live outside the US and want to buy US region audible items. I imagine some of the methods might work the other way around or for other geographical arrangements. But I cannot vouch for any of it, YMMV.

Hi all. I'm a big fan of the Culture series by Iain M. Banks. However, 3 of the books aren't available for purchase as audiobooks in the US due to some stupid licensing problems. I managed to get one of the three (Excision) somewhere in the past... but was wondering if any of you who live in the UK (or any other region where these books aren't restricted for sale...) could help me get a copy.
Seems like they are available through I didn't check the entire series but certainly more than just Excession.

Also, don't forget to hit up your local public library for free books on CD and eMedia if that works better (eBooks/e-audio-books). Further, if your local library does not have a tittle or format you need they can often get it from other libraries outside of your system via InterLibrary loan. You can use WorldCAT to check and see if one is close by and bring that record into your library and see what they can do. In WorldCAT I'm seeing many, many, US libraries with titles in this series in Audiobook on CD available.

Gaming Advice / [D&D 3.5] Pre-generated characters?
« on: June 29, 2018, 09:57:58 AM »
Any good place to get pre-gen 3.5 characters of all levels? They don't have to be optimized these just back up characters for my PCs. I found the d20 NPCs Wiki so far but anything better?

I'm currently running a campaign where this is happening, sort of. One of the PCs is gradually turning into a secondary BBEG but neither he nor the party are aware of this just yet. Any insights you have or find please share.

As a non-video gamer, I never heard this one before, not sure how well known this story is. But I found it to be hilariously fantastic.

Asheron's Call's Shard Of Harry

The entire history of mythology is unrelenting douchebaggery, from heroes deciding that murder is cool as long as the victims are a different race to gods bending cosmic forces to screw over someone who forgot to say thanks once. And on Asheron's Call's Thistledown server, one group transcended this divine dickishness to become legend. The game ran a year-long story triggered by players shattering precious crystals, because chasing shiny objects and killing things are all MMO gamers ever do. Unless you want them to, in which case they'll do the exact opposite.

The "Defenders of the Shard" set up camp around the sixth and final crystal, the Shard of the Herald, the prison of Bael' Zhaeron, Hopeslayer. Also, they nicknamed it Harry. 24 hours a day they defended it against other players and sacrificed themselves to it, because Asheron's Call monsters can level up by killing players. The Harry Krishnas impaled themselves on His Spikiness until He was practically invincible. This one group was holding up the next update for every server of the entire game. The developers, in the awesome manner of movie bad guys, stepped in to fight the players on their own level. Instead of simply rewriting the crystal as gone, they appeared in-game as mythical characters and called two high-level players to join their attack. These players had completed an earlier quest making them indebted to the story's cause, but brilliantly, one had already defected and was now a Disciple of Harry.

The admins donned their epic weapons, sallied forth ... and promptly got their asses kicked. They were killed by their own players in a world they'd built, making this officially a science fiction movie. 20 Turbine staff watching on a break room screen were treated to players jumping up and down on the admins' corpses. Because Asheron's Call doesn't have a crouch button. Worse, Harry had resisted command-level instructions to power down. The staff joked that He had attained sentience. Understand: If a computer program ever escapes and kills us, it won't be because of the military. It'll be because gamers trained it to. The staff tried again. And again. The third time, they got lucky in their own game, and instead of banning people, they paid tribute to their valiant foes. The Thistledown server got a unique monument, the "Shard Vigil Memorial," honoring the players who had kicked the company's ass for so long.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Half-Lich Template (Looking for One)
« on: June 26, 2018, 12:35:18 PM »
This is a bizarre homebrew campaign. Through a series of mishaps an ancient lich is slowly becoming one of the PCs. Kind of like  "phasing into" the PCs body from another plane. So a transition here makes sense. Having straight up children does seem to make little sense but when magic is involved strange things can happen.

Otherwise, just take two levels of Savage Progression?
That'll work perfect. Thanks!
