First, can the old boards be opened for other old users to scavenge for the transfer of threads? Currently it requires a username/password login (separate from account login).
A pair of thoughts:
First, can the old boards be opened for other old users to scavenge for the transfer of threads? Currently it requires a username/password login (separate from account login).
Second, a minor grammatical thing, can the "Hello [Forum ID]" notice at the top please be changed to "Hello, [Forum ID]"?
I don't know if it's possible to change that. I will have to look into it (I assume it can).Found it, changed it. ;)
Can we change the forum settings so you aren't dumped outside of a thread whenever you reply but rather returned to the thread view? You can set that in your profile. Regardless! *changes default setting*

I noticed that quote tags can create forum-only links. Is is possible to set up signatures to be able to make links to other posts on the forum, but nothing else?
I like being able to link handbooks in my sig.
Thanks! :)[quote author=Childe link=topic=21.msg407#msg407 date=1320628721]

Yes, we'll put that in.

This much, I believe, is intentional. We are working to port everything from those forums over here, but it is currently a moderator-only project.
If there is specific information you want access to, please let us know. We'll do whatever we can to port it on your behalf, or at the very least provide you with the information so you can post it at your leisure.

Along with that, what is "Quick Moderation," and is that actually supposed to be a visible option to toggle for normal users? It's in our Forum Layout subsection of Profile. I tried changing it and looking at threads, but I couldn't spot the differences. You'll notice it if you GM any PbP games (since then you'll be a moderator). It gives you some checkboxes in board view.
How exactly do we recognize someone?Click "give kudos" when someone does something fun or cool
(asked in the most polite, completely appreciative manner possible) Is whatever caused the old boards to crash, been addressed for these new boards, so it doesn't happen again?
I don't see that option. Can you direct me to it?It's post-dependent.
I like the new layout.Too bright. Can't we ATLEAST get the old look as an option?

Is this similar to Gameology "Fu" and will it eventually disappear again? Personally, I liked GameFu.Yes to the first, but you can't reduce peoples' scores.
The link to the old boards that shows up at the top of the new boards (http://www.minmaxboards.com/), http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index, does not work. Leave off the index, and it works: http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/.Bam!
Is the Ask a Question board supposed to replace the Ask a Simple Question threads from the old min/max board?

Will the old boards eventually be deleted, or will they stay as view-only indefinitely? Just curious in the case of threads that don't get ported over as I have a shitload of bookmarks from the old boards.I second this. Just need to know if I need to start saving web archives or not.
Which is the most appropriate board for posts trying out the die-roller to see what all it can and can't do?I started a mini handbook in my noob thread (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=263.msg1397#msg1397) if you want to check it out.
Are the timestamps for posts supposed to be MST? I'd think EST would make more sense since that's BG's timezone last I checked and most people can convert time to/from EST in their heads because its used so much.
There's a setting in the profile options to adjust all board times to local time.
Will all the old Handbooks be ported over? I read those things religiously

We need some kind of [bigimg] tag that will allow us to post large pictures without them having to be full size.[img width=200]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/106/3/b/1302969081_bokeh_by__kol-d1x5u23.png[/img]
What do you have to do to be able to see the rest of the boards? When logged out I can see them but if I log in I can only see the 2 Meta boards. Do we have to get approval or something?Read your directions!
How exactly do we recognize someone? You have to have enough posts first. Wait for it.
Is it ok if we just copy past threads from the old boards? I'm loathe to lose all the psionics info before I even get a chance to read it all.YES! Can we add some functionality to the diceroller? For example, being able to select "best X of Y"?I don't think so. The diceroller is an addon provided by the host, so it would have to be edited separately by someone with the know-how and permission to do it. Prime might or might not be able to; I'll ask him.
The edit feature for locked topics over on BG is missing.

I don't want it there. I want to make sure people only post in the right threads before they start, i.e. agree to the rules. With more junk threads in that section, it increases the chances someone can post there and not agree to the rules.Moved the intro threads to another section, made the Noob section reply-only (with every thread except DA RULES locked), set it to require 1 post before the Intro section can be used. I figured it was best to do it quickly.

If they do, it'll be because our server makes us delete them. The hope would be that they will stay for a long while. If we do have to delete, we hope you'll get a lot of warning.
What's the difference between the Handbook Writer and the Handbook Editor groups?Handbook Editor can edit all handbooks.
I would imagine it's more for abandoned handbooks than ones that are currently maintained, given other comments Prime and the other mods have made in the past.
3. The password setting changed. I preferred the old boards method of not insisting that a password have a Capital letter and a Number. I've used the same long string for years and it's annoying to change.
4. Lurkers can see all forums, but registered members have to make two posts to see forums. I think I know what you're trying to do, but I don't think you can force users to socialize or to obey rules. They already signed up to the site which is redundant in accepting your policies. I estimate that you will remove your requirement to post twice to see threads in the future due to hassles.
Its purely for dead handbook recovery and maintenance. We have quite a number with missing or collaborative authors, which could use an editing mechanism. Thats about it.I would imagine it's more for abandoned handbooks than ones that are currently maintained, given other comments Prime and the other mods have made in the past.
My "Rebuilding Handbook" is, because of the nature of the topic (that to broaden the scope of the handbook would be to stop nowhere), rather short. As a result, once I edit it to include a few more sample builds, I don't intend to touch it unless someone specifically asks. That said, I'll rest much easier from a general standpoint knowing that other people aren't changing my posts which I may very likely not look at again for a long time. Even if I trust that the changes aren't attacks (deletion or clear abuse), I'm a writer, and I'm neurotic about this kind of thing: I want my words to be my words, my art my art.

Will all the old Handbooks be ported over? I read those things religiouslyI am working on moving the ones written by the Handbook_Writer account. Or, rather, I will work on that and I have already been offered help.
On the topic of moving old handbooks, are the tags here identical to those of BG? I remember there were some differences between BG and WotC, which made transporting threads from one place to another a bit more complicated.WotC's Size tag doesn't work here. Also WotC's quote wipes line breaks >.>

I have far fewer than 100 posts, and I can see and (apparently) post threads in the BLYHT forum.
Would it be possible to add non-binary/non-cis gender expressions to the "gender" section of the forum profile? I know choosing a gender isn't required (which is a really good idea, since doing so can be simply annoying), but some people may want to be able to identify themselves and not be forced to give a binary gender, or indicate they aren't cis. It may seem like not a big deal, but it can really indicate that a forum/website/etc is open and supportive of those who aren't cis, even if they don't actually come out.Could require a plethora of new options though, depending on what school of thought you subscribe to. Simply changing 'gender' to 'sex' would make it more biologically appropriate and it would avoid the unnecessary complications of the former term.

So...I seem to be barred from posting anywhere but in the gerenal PbP and and my game threads. Normally I would post such an issue in the proper place, but I seem unable to. My links up at the top are only "Home, Help, Moderate, Logout". I am also unable to view profiles or send messages.

Yes.
I take it you don't have a zoom function on your phone's browser?
Small (and possibly dumb) question: I have some homebrew stuff I'm working to move to our new home, but I wanted to know where I could put it.
Currently, I have here:
-My bestiary (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1153.0);
-My Class fixes/remakes (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1457.0);
-and this (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=1420.0).
Still need to move:
-My library (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=2112);
-and this (http://brilliantgameologists.com/boards/index.php?topic=2097).
All this could be posted at the Homebrew and House Rules (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=26.0), or I should post them at the When Inspiration Strikes (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?board=18.0)?
It seems that while you cannot access the PbP-section when you are not logged in, there is no problem what so ever to get into them if they are in the "latest post"-list. If they are to be hidden from prying eyes, that should be taken care of.You mean threads in individual sub-boards?

I don't suppose there's any way to increase the height of superscripts, to get more separation? It looks kind of weird when a monster has a bonus feat: Iron WillBIf there's too little separation in tables for your tastes, you could put it in parantheses after the feat instead, like Iron Will(B).
EDIT: Nevermind... I had it in a table, which compressed it. :banghead
I hated those wannabe Facebook chat bars. They tend to be buggy or annoying. Then Facebook *updated* and now my problems with chat bars in bars isn't exclusive.I hate the chat/message function in Facebook. I don't mean that at all (unless I'm misunderstanding "chat bar," which is possible). I mean not just one person to one other person, but rather an open-session chat (similar to IRC) built in as a separate page.
How about some IRC? It's simple, effective, and everyone can use their favorite client instead of talking about the short comings of the one you picked.
I was just wondering, because I have a logo for my Magipunk setting and it would be really awesome to make the logo visible on all the pages in the Magipunk subforum. But if that's a no-go then don't worry about it.Well, for individual threads you can just put it in each OP.

I can't minimize the metaboard (eh not important enough), or the podcast board (many of us never read/post there, sorry) categories.
Shame there isn't a minimize or customization for certain boards within a maximized boards categories.
Got another thing: search bar. It doesn't search current thread first. I don't like loading 15pages to figure out where I last posted in a big thread. 1 click search was a great feature.Am I just not using search correctly?
I think you are using it incorrectly. The search bar at the top right of the screen ply returns swears within the current thread if I am in a topic, otherwise it searches only the active board, or if at the main forum page, all the forums.I can't minimize the metaboard (eh not important enough), or the podcast board (many of us never read/post there, sorry) categories.

Make sure your keyboard settings are correct. If you're set to a French or French Canadian setting, for instance, instead of English (US or Canada), your computer will assume you're using a French keyboard instead of an English one, which means certain keys are different.French keyboard setting is probably the second wonkiest one I have ever used.

Is it possible to make a thread that's only viewable by yourself? How about only by a certain group of people? Not possible, as far as I know. Prime can make sub-boards or entire boards visible only to certain membergroups, but I don't know if he can make individual threads invisible (if he can't, there's probably an addon for it). In any case, regular mortal users can't (nor can regular mods, for that matter).
EDIT: Post 3400! Woot!
Oh it's not necessary, just would have made collecting some NPC stats into a single thread for my eyes only a little easier. But I can always save them offline.PM them to yourself?
Can you reorder things when you split off a thread? I could just split all the posts into a separate thread and reorder them that way.No, threads display posts in order of date/time. There's nothing to change.

I wouldn't do that to poor old Nans. I'll just move the feats to the Feats thread and put a link, and steal that post.
Oh, that reminds me, Nanshork. I foreclosed on your mortgage, swindled your parents out of your inheritance, stole your girlfriend, and ran over your dog with my gas guzzling, mega polluting, tricked out SUV/limo/dirigible. I know you don't have a dog, but I bought you one with your swindled inheritance so I could run over it.

How do you run someone over with a dirigible?
Main point: Why are the signature limits so tight? 300 characters is tiny. Just put height / annoyingness restrictions and let it be twenty times as many characters. This can be particularly annoing if one wants to link things to the signature. Not a problem for me at this moment, but it was before I made some adjustments.
Added one.
Added one.Might as well test here

"yoh dawg I heard you like indexes so we put an index on your index of indexes so you can index while you index".
But a separate board for them would mean they don't take up space in other forums, so Min/Max 3.x (for example) doesn't get filled up with "RandomDude47's List of Stuff."
What: A Private board. That is to say, a board where any thread you start can only be read by you.-Use mythweavers or similar site to make sheets of your monsters/characters.
The Purpose: A place to put character sheets and monsters you don't want everyone else to see. Or anything else you don't want others to see.
The Reason: I think this would go quite well with how many people here are PbP DM's / players.
My True (personal) Reasoning: There are times I want to keep the Meta about my character in RL games a secret, meanwhile I'm constantly directing my group-mates here, most of them know me by my avatar too. So if they come here and I've got a sheet up, bam, they know my Metagame; I am tired of using my signature thread as a workground for projects that aren't ready for their own thread yet. See the heavily WIP class / discipline combo in there now. But it is a place I am reasonably sure that no one else will notice until I'm ready to move it elsewhere, a Private board will alleviate that; I will soon be an active PbP DM, and I would rather have things here, formated in ways I can do here, than on my Laptop, formatted in Word.
Two)And I didn't need a Sig board for that did I? ;)
Putting my vote in for a Sig board.
I disagree that that would be "putting our indexes in an Index". It would be putting our index files into a folder.
@ Osle: Your sig has a link to your Monster Classes. As does, well, everyone else's. In your monster classes board, you have an index. Your index (Sig thread), leads to a folder (board), that contains its own index to locate content within that folder (board). You do not have an "index in your index". You have a very efficient system of indexes and folders.
Most sitewide implementations of that tends to annoy more than inform though, due to collateral damage.
You can do that with CSS? :huh
Right now there's this.

To put my two cents in, if that was an automated thing in posts it would annoy me.
Anyone else reminded of the GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX! Replacer Thing over at the wotc boards? *shudder*
Zero thought it would be funny one april fool's to have the boards do word replacement. Every instance of the word "Green" was replaced by "GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!GLEEMAX!". Perhaps a better question to ask is: are there any threads in Min/Max that you think would better fit in the subforum you are suggesting?
i guess thats true. where do you think most people have them located?Mine (http://www.minmaxboards.com/index.php?topic=7829) is in Homebrew and Houserules, but that's because it's a collection of homebrew and house rules. :p
The point is to have an intuitive place to keep them, rather than having them scattered all over the boards. Easy for newcomers to add to, and easy to find your crap again if you lose the link for some reason, rather than trying to remember where you put it.This a thousand times.
EDIT: And, easy for other people to browse if they're interested.
Okay, two things here (third doesn't count), both are likely to be shot down by others, but I like the ideas:I've asked for something similar.

Your index (Sig thread), leads to a folder (board), that contains its own index to locate content within that folder (board). You do not have an "index in your index". You have a very efficient system of indexes and folders.
How do I start a poll? The New Poll button next to New Topic on certain boards.
So how do I search for through other poster's signatures to find their threads? When I go to "Member" at the top, I have to click on people's names. If it's just about finding members' threads, I don't think there's a way to go around having to check members individually (you can go around checking their posts or signatures for interesting threads by using the search function and setting it to return threads, though). I know there's no signature search function, and I'd have to ask Prime if we can add it, but it seems niche.
I want to be complete, rather than haughty by just sorting by posts and saying "if you don't see them when hitting the next button, they aint worth it"
