D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Tier evaluation: The Mariner class

I'm adding it to the Dipping minihandbook as a source of exotic proficiency :-D

Has anyone considered that the world after the apocalypse might be better than the world before it?

Every day.

1303
Wait, did a Pathfinder balance conversation just end amicably?

Fuck the mayans, we are well and truly fucked now.

I've been thinking more and more that archers need some kind of unique combat maneuvers that they can use.

After all, they are completely nullified by some low level spells, and are generally pretty generic.

I just let my players use trip/disarm/etc with them at no penalty. They can't get most of the feats that buff that kind of thing, so that's penalty enough.

Oddly enough, It's more "rule of cool" than anything else.

Well, as Jackinthegreen says, it might be to your advantage to get into a profitable profession that pays the bills and you don't mind too much doing, and then use your spare time to exercise your other profession as a pseudo-hobby. That gives you carte blanche to reject projects you dislike (since you don't need the money) while still satisfying your creativity.

Between my disabilities and my family, I don't really have the option of working a normal job. I'm working on SSI right now while I try to learn something marketable that I can actually DO.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Howdah material or rules
« on: December 03, 2012, 10:59:20 PM »
Spelljammer has some rules for them. The Quezal (I probably butchered that) is known for having a Howdah that seats 24 (cramped) as well as 1-2 siege weapons.

Is that for 3.5 rules, and where can I find the resource? Additionally, what size is the Quezal?

http://oracle.wizards.com/scripts/wa.exe?A2=ind0301e&L=spelljammer-l&T=0&P=75

All I got for you, sorry. It's d20 material at the least.

EDIT: Appears to be homebrew, but at least someone tried.

Actually the one I've been looking for is an armor special abilities thread. Since, y'know, they are half the price of weapons....

You are welcome.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Caster Love
« on: December 01, 2012, 09:55:53 PM »
Power Creep:  Aside from Tome of Battle, I'm not seeing that much power creep for non-casters.  (Factotum is kinda a caster due to having L7 SLAs at Factotum20.)

It's there, it's just more subtle. Casters break the game right out of the gate, but non-casters tend to benefit more (relatively) from obscure PrCs and such.

Damnit Amechra, stop making me rewrite my NPCs. Now my order of mageslaying monks need to abuse hookswords.

1312
Moreso the 3rd part stuff like Stack Metamagic, but there is enough in the official content to make PF metamagic entirely incompatible with 3.5. (Note: Stack+Extend+Thesis=infinite buffs.)

Echoing Spell is a +3, but if you can mitigate that you now have double your spell slots.

Bouncing spell makes single target defenses kind of pointless for team monster.

1313
Uh, nope. That's basically how I do it. The world exists without the players. The encounter shouldn't have any reason to be ready for the players unless the player do something to make the target aware of them.

Same. My players have said before "why would you give us a challenge that we can't handle? I replied with "Why do you expect to be able to handle anything I throw at you?"

One simply cannot turn off ones emotions. So it begs the question, when you can't handle your players, is it because of what they are doing, or your experience with what they are doing?
In the past, I was known to snap and just yell "shut the fuck up", then kind of "reboot" for a moment and go on with the session as if nothing happened. Since then I've developed better coping methods, and your post reminded me that other players could benefit from it.

Accept your emotions, then set them aside. For every decision, acknowledge that your emotions corrupt your decision, and compensate accordingly. You are free to feel whatever you wish. You are equally free to disregard your feelings as illogical and biased.

Yeah, or totemist giant-killer

Pretty much anything that doesn't care about stats and loves being fine.

Incarnate Dustform Hairy Spider is a 0 ecl non-mindless fine humanoid

Was there an actual rule against it? I thought it just SUCKED! Since no feats or skills = no PrCs

It'd make a badass factotum.

Arenanet also used to have him personally banhammer (banscythe?) people for cheating in guild wars 1... or was that Dhuum? (his older brother)

Yeah, that was Dhuum. Good times...

If anyone cares, that is Grenth, the god of death in the Guild Wars setting. He's kind of a badass, and he specializes in condition damage. Enervation, plagues, cold damage, that kind of thing.

An uttercold assault necromancer fits him perfectly.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: Pathfinder's perfect synergism with normal 3.5
« on: November 22, 2012, 09:09:33 PM »
Don't remove ANYTHING?

Then technically speaking, as a Paladin do I use Wisdom and Charisma to cast spells?

Perhaps it's do not remove my Wisdom based spellcasting, and add my new Charisma based spellcasting. Effectively doubling my spells per day?  :plotting

This is my point exactly. They advise that updating a non-core class to PF should keep the entire class intact, but add new features. Two pages previously, they mangled the core classes  :shakefist

I already had an account. Here is the PDF uploaded to my google docs.

WHY DID I READ IT?!  :banghead

The guidelines on how to update a character directly contradict the updates they did IN THE SAME DOCUMENT.  :banghead :banghead

How so?

"Don't remove anything from a class, as that makes it harder to update a character from 3.5"
