Let's go with half of your corpse cart's maximum capacity, any creatures of your choice up to level/CR 5.

Welp, I can't change size categories with DIF unfortunately. Would think being Small size would be enough though? I mean, horses are only large and they serve as mounts to medium-size adventurers. I think there are some medium-size birds on the familiar list somewhere.

There is this compilation and the only medium-sized standard option is the eel that can only swim. Serpent Kingdoms has a medium dung snake and the DMG has extra rules for larger masters up to a medium sized giant owl, but specifically for huge or bigger masters.

And that's the thing, a familiar's more of a cute smart pet, not something big and sturdy enough to serve as your combat steed. If your original size was huge or bigger then you could take the medium owl, but otherwise clearly familiar are meant to be smoll.

How else should I be expected to gauge the usefulness of a bunch of corpses that're suppose to be backing me up here? I'd do this solo if I wasn't asked otherwise
