Discussion & Feedback
« on: November 28, 2011, 01:02:46 PM »
Please give feedback, comments, & suggestions!

If you're playing with something ritual-related, I want to hear about it.  Please post your build choices, the fun tricks you pick up, the aggravating occurrences, and especially commentary on how the system actually works in-game.

1st level Ritualist, 4 minor rituals (18 Int, or 16 and Extra Charge feat):
Ritual of Blood (+1 damage to every damage source)
Bitter Winter (1d4 nonlethal cold/round)
Shards (1d3 piercing/round, save for half)
Vampiric Circle (1 damage/round, gain 1 Temp HP)

Discharge them all at once to deal an actually decent amount of damage in a 10 foot radius (6.83/round on average for 2 rounds, assuming opponents make the save on Circle of Shards, or 8.5 if they fail). Sounds like a decent low-level combo if you have nothing better to do.

On the other hand, you have to be within 10 feet. On the other other hand, you still have all your actions to add on to that.

Quicken Ritual + Advanced Time Vortex = Action Economy? What Action Economy?
CoGH + TV isn't much better than spamming WRT on its own, though.

Speaking of which, how do Ritual Shorthand and other cast time reducers interact with Quicken Ritual?

A quickened ritual takes a full-round action, no matter what you do to it.  So it's separate from the others.

Looking over what the rituals do and how the classes work, this seems pretty solid.  The witchblood is definitely the "witchiest" of any class, homebrew or otherwise, that I have seen thus far.

I can't say that I feel like I have a full grasp of it in my head, but I suspect it's like incarnum in that respect--can't keep track of it all until you've played it once, at which point it becomes fairly intuitive.
“Hast thou not felt in forest gloom, as gloaming falls on dark-some dells, when comes a whisper, hum and hiss; savage growling sounds a-near, dazzling flashes around thee flicker, whirring waxes and fills thine ears: has thou not felt then grisly horrors that grip thee and hold thee?”

So I'm considering adding bonus charges due to a high primary stat, something like half your mod.  How does that sound?

Sonorous Creatures have no way to communicate back what they're sensing to the summoning Ritualist. It would also be nice to use your Spellcraft and other skills to work with what they detect (such as with Detect Magic).

Oh... yes, that's true.  I'll fix that.

Actually, they can.  It's in the Sonorous Creature template, they can communicate telepathically with the ritualist who created them.

Good. I missed the part about telepathic communication.

Can you propagate the changes you made to MM's complete ritual list to my lists by tier?  Or, if that's too time consuming, tell me which ones you changed, and I'll do it myself.

Just added a phrase to the Spell Rituals.  Copy/paste should be fine for that, if you're willing to do it.

Done.  On an unrelated note, do you have any idea why I might have an extra line between the [/spoiler] and the "last edit" line, whereas MM's posts you edited don't have that line between?  I didn't see anything obvious in my coding.

I actually don't see an extra line.  It might have to do with sig & personal text stuff.

I figured it out.  The edit symbol adds a line, which I can only see on my own posts obviously.   :facepalm

{snip} So I'm going to make a incense-based prestige class which will be awesome.

You might want to add this to your Homebrew To-Do list.

Yes.  Thank you, I forgot about it.
