General D&D Discussion / Re: Help; How to Counter a Teleporter
« on: September 06, 2014, 08:49:41 PM »
To answer the OP:
The third level spell anticipate teleportation takes care of this single-handedly.
Or you could simply rocket tag with a bunch of nerveskitters from wands stacked on you.

D&D 3.5 and Pathfinder / Re: How to survive as a full blown vampire.
« on: March 12, 2014, 09:48:20 PM »
The DM is the one that should be worried, not you. :P Low magic game where no one has even heard of vampires, and you're a vampire wizard with no LA? Either one of those things is overpowered in a low magic game, but together? :lmao

Deeper Darkness is a 3rd level cleric spell that lasts days/level. Get the cleric to keep one of those cast on a piece of your equipment. I'd still not be out regularly during the daytime (it might get Dispelled). Stay inside of a coach or something. Your "coffin" can be under the seat, and only accessible (without an axe) via Gaseous Form.

The cleric could also use Lesser Restoration to let you feed on your friends to keep your fast healing, even if you can't find victims. Scratch that. I'd forgotten that vampires do drain, and LR doesn't cure that... It's actually too bad that you're not a cleric instead of wizard, so you could do all this spellcasting yourself... Maybe your first move should be to convert the cleric into your vampiric minion.  :devil (Of course I'd talk this over out of character with the cleric's player first...)

Deeper darkness is on the Darkness domain from BoVD so he can get it with Arcane disciple next level.

Forgot he banned evocation. Scratch that and get a cleric follower with leadership instead.

Libris Mortis has both Corpsecrafter and Necropolitan which lets you dump con. Giving you more ability points. (So an average of ~12 now at least). And can be venerable without problems. Which gives you more points, a decent enhancement bonus to strength and d12+4 hp per level if made in a desecrated shrine to an evil god. That's at least a possibilty to think about if you need the extra points to make your gish.

The monk would also benefit since the quarterstaff is a monk weapon and the club is not

A wizard/incantatrix/Iot7V can do it better.

Things to consider:
Riding Boots from Magic Item Compendium 121
Steadfast Boots from MIC.
Valorous Weapon Enchantment (from unapprochable east).

Harmonious Knight sub levels CoV web enhancement, link inserted.

Personally I find the greatest ability of the incantatrix to be the third level metamagic effect. This means you could got into Initiate of the sevenfold veil after if you need defense.

Iot7V is a crazy defensive monster, those veils make him close to impervious to everything. And they can protect your teammates as well.

I think I'm gonna be too big for hiding, and will most probably play it more as a fighter than a rogue.

Perhaps I should just make it a Warblade instead, but that's so standard.

I was thinking that adding the Zelekhut chains to a Half Minotaur would be a cool concept.

I understand the problem with 7 people though.

Wow this seems like a barrel of fun, if you guys are still looking for more players, let me know :)

I would be thinking of playing a Half-Minotaur Swashbuckler/Rogue. But I'm unsure whether that will fit in the party? I'd love to just take that base and add a bunch of "mutations" on it with FitS rule for extra abilities.

What's the average amount of damage that a caster can do in three rounds with AoE's? How many hp does the average charger build have at (7th level assuming no healing items  or hp boosting items).

When counting damage, are you adding multiple targets dps, or are you simply counting how much damage he can do to each target?

How well build is the caster for doing damage? If he's a cheesed out dragonwrought kobold he can do a bit more damage than a transmuter that just happens to have fireball prepared.

In said example where you hit your enemy with Solid Fog, you could then stack black tentacles on it to make their speed 2.5ft. Giving you even more turns.

But assuming that you get only three turns and none of the builds are optimized for it but the wizard still decides to throw in a bunch of fireballs when the solid fog is up:
Usually charger builds have around 14-16 con, and have roughly 5 levels with d12 hp and 2 with d10 hp. That's 4*6.5+2*5.5+7*2.5+12 = 26+11+17.5+12=56.5 hp on average.
The fireballs, cast by a 7th level wizard deal 7d6 damage each or half that on a succesful save. Meaning 24.5 damage on a failed save and 12.25 damage on a succesful one. So over three rounds that's 36.75-73.5 damage.
Therefore the charger has to fail two saving throws to go down from the three fireballs. Assuming he has no resistances or other defenses.

This is highly theoretical though. Since it raises a multitude of questions like who prepares 3 fireballs to cast after you solid fog? Who doesn't have any defenses against the most used element ever?

How do you feel about Prestige paladin? (scroll down a little)

What classes are the rest of your party?

How's your DM with multiclassing? Since you could just take one level of Bard and then max out on Druid.
At low levels Sleep is usually better than Grease IMO.

Why did you pick Magic Mouth? Wouldn't CLW or Hideous Laughter be better?
Why is the character sheet called druid?
Also you can't be lawful when you are a bard.

Why greatsword? Why not something with reach? Anything you charge that's bigger than Medium (depending on the interpretation of Goliath, you could have 10ft reach so let's say huge+), Will get an attack of opportunity on you that could shut you down.

Most charger builds want pounce since it increases their damage output by a ludicrous amount.

If going stricly RAW you cannot take a level in paladin, then another class and then rogue. Which you seem to be doing.

Runequest You shoot yourself in the foot, and luckily survive due to a particularly good rolling of first aid. Sadly no-one with a proper healing skill is around when you develop tetanus and die from the infection.

Bard Archers with inspire courage optimization are also quite good at dealing decent damage at decent ranges, while still being decent casters/buffers and skill monkeys. It's like being pretty awesome at everything, and always useful, surely there are builds out there that can shoot further, or deal a little more outright damage, or cast more spells. But most of those builds will lack in other areas.
With such builds I prefer to be airborne, so magic items or races that can do that for you is much appreciated.

Archer Bard with inspire courage optimization, and who later heads into sublime chord.

Provides out of combat healing, support spells, and increases the damage of all the martial characters.

In addition to this he'll be doing some damage on his own staying behind with his bow, so he wont feel too left out.

The flind gnolls hair retreats as he turns into the old man Mikkel again.

Full of suprises are we? Well, Well, when you live my life you find that the world is never what it seems.
He goes over to Brone and looks to Beorn with an academical look.
I should probably look at it as well.

Min/Max 3.x / Re: Is there a list of Core Tricks/Builds?
« on: February 29, 2012, 10:18:10 AM »
Paladin 2/Sorcerer 6/Dragon Disciple 10/Eldritch Knight 2 is a core build that you could do, though I cannot vouch for its effectiveness.
It's a decent gish build in core. However dragon-disciple is invariably pretty bad.
