Title: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on January 21, 2012, 04:38:36 PM
Zhona is the most prosperous city on the northern plains, renowned for its sophisticated culture, its technological advances, and its military might. The high-walled city stands as a beacon of civilization unrivaled by any other kingdom, and from his palace in the center of town King Alm Frost oversees it all. Merchants of all varieties can be found here, peddling their wares and haggling with customers. Crimson-clad sentries patrol the walls and gates, while the blue-clad city watch patrols the streets. It is well-known that these two groups have a friendly rivalry between them. Just outside the city in the rolling grassy plains, groups of young would-be knights are trained in all forms of combat, as well as in the intrigues of the court and the doctrines of chivalry.

A few months ago, trade has opened up between Zhona and the island nation of Ken Kosuta, bringing in exotic spices, fine silks, and some rather unusual creatures as well. Though all races are welcomed by Zhona, the people of the city are wary of the strange folk that have begun calling the mainland their home. The Zhonans have also been growing increasingly curious about a school of some sort that a man from Ken Kosuta established a few weeks ago. However, the school neither advertises what it teaches, nor does it ever seem to be open.

However, the people have began to feel that something is lurking in the shadows, something old and terrible. Old folktales recount how dragons once stalked the city, slaughtering anyone who dared to even glimpse at the knowledge or the treasure that was theirs. These old folktales have begun to resurface lately, even though a dragon has not been seen in many years. Along with the stories, old feelings of mistrust toward dragonfolk (half-dragons, kobolds, and the like) have begun resurfacing as well, and tension has been growing on the streets.

Most recently, a historical archivist named Toran McGraham has gone missing, seemingly vanished into thin air. The city watch is baffled by his disappearance, and rumors have been spreading, with everyone having theories more outrageous than the last. Some say that he left town without telling anyone, off to go unearth another piece of history, and just has not returned. Others speculate that in a bout of depression he killed himself, and that the city watch needs to be searching the bottom of the lake rather than questioning Toran's neighbors. Still others blame a young spellscale woman that lives in the area, accusing her of murdering the historian for stumbling upon some piece of dragon lore.

So, what are your characters doing in the city of Zhona?

Alth was walking the town, doing what many might consider "stalking" it.  Truthfully, he was.  The recent disappearance of Toran McGraham gave him a bad feeling in his gut.  He didn't believe it was just a coincidence that the archivist went missing after old folktales started circulating.

Within the past week he had personally disproven many of the rumors concerning McGraham's disappearance, including the mildly amusing claim that he was buried in his own secret library.  That "library" only consisted of a single shelf in the fellow's cellar.  Even Alth couldn't have been buried under those books.  (Took 20 on Open Lock to get in the house)

He took a break from stalking the town and sat down in the park to mull over some of the things he'd heard.  The scent of some new exotic plants from Ken Kosuta wafted over him.

Artur was relatively new to town. As a knight, he sought a bit of fortune, but more than that he wished to enhance his reputation. He was up for just about any challenge, and went out into the world for a while to find it. However, he had found nothing. Thinking that perhaps there was no need for knight and his valiant steed anymore, he had almost considered retiring and becoming a farmer. That was until he'd heard of the prosperous city, Zhona, and the rumor that Toran McGraham had gone missing. This was perfect. Maybe he could be of service after all.

He was very surprised at all the technological marvels within the city's walls, as well as of the exoticism that was from Ken Kosuta. He quickly regained his composure, trying to not look like a non-local. However, he reminded himself that such wonders were meant to impress a person of any stature.

Riding Olwen, he decided to try and talk to a few of the locals about what they had heard, if anything. He was sure that a majority would be rumour without substance, but anything was better than nothing. He could sort out the details later.

Claire arrived in town just some days ago; she was traveling from town to town, helping people here and there, with her last mentor, another Harmonious Knights called Henrik Steelsong, which was unfortunately not able to stick with her at Zhona. He had urgent tasks given to him and she couldn't come with him; that's all he said to her.

Claire was told Zhona is a great city, and it truly were; she was amazed by the amount of culture it had to offer. From time to time, she was hearing about the disappearance of Toran McGraham, plus the old tales of dragons bringing doom, and the things related. She needed to be careful about revealing too much about herself, considering what's running through her veins plus the current state of the city...

Nonetheless, Claire decided to try and investigate the archivist's case; the current accusations seemed to grossly steam from racism alone too much to her likings.

It had been an interesting journey from his home citadel of Morathos, deep within the Dragonfang Mountain Range. It was his first time away from his home, but he was not scared nor hestitate. He had been awaiting this day for quite some time. It was tradition that most young samurais(and other dwarven warriros) spend a bit of time adventuring in their youth, both to expose them to the world outside of the dwarven cities and to strengthen them with new experiences as well as putting their training to practical use. He however had the honor of being given an assignment by his King, he was leaving with an actual purpose.

A small dwarf walked down the side of the main road, standing only three feet and 11 inches tall. Despite his small size there was a certain confidence about him. Blue eyes looked about his surroundings, he needed to find where gnomish weaponry was sold. His dark red hair was cut short while his carefully trimmed and groomed beard hung down past his belt buckle. This dwarf was clad in a very well-kept suit of studded leather, each metal stud having been carefully polished so it reflected the day's sunlight. On his back was sheathed a katana(along with a backpack), while a sheathed wakizashi was found near his left hip.

For now he was just doing a bit of exploring after entering the city's main gate. His first stop would be a tavern to secure room and board for the night, before he would then set about in the market area in search of merchants selling gnomish weaponry. For now he had hailed a guard, asking for directions.

As Alth is resting in the park, enjoying the heady scents of the exotic imports, the sight of a newcomer to town catches his eye. The newcomer in question seems to be conversing with a city guard from horseback, though the exact nature of the conversation is hard to make out. Jackinthegreen, please make a Listen Check.

"Toran McGraham, you say?" the guard mutters, scratching his head as Artur questions him. "The archivist? Well, let me see if I remember anything that could help you." Kevin Video, please make a Gather Information check.

While looking into the case of the archivist, Claire finds herself in the merchant district of the city, one of Zhona's busiest sections of town. Townsfolk and travelers alike make their way down the wide main street, eager to find exactly what they're looking for. Shiki, please make a Spot check.

"The Silver Coin Tavern is just down the lane, across the street from the park," the guard informs dwarf, pointing with his spear down the busy market street while his partner behind him is engaged in conversation with a man on horseback. "Of course, The Black Scorpion is not too far from here either, though you don't strike me as the sort of fellow who would want to stay there." While the guard is talking, please give me a Spot check ShadowViper.

"Well, I know that most folk around think that this spellscale girl killed him," the guard says to Artur, (Gather Information successful) oblivious to the fact that Alth could overhear every word. (Listen successful) "I don't really think that's the case though. She doesn't strike me as the type, though I suppose you could talk to her yourself if you're interested. Her name is Voitheia. Personally, I think it has something to do with those old ruins he was looking into not long before he disappeared. I think he went back for something. We sent a couple of mercenaries to go look into them, but we haven't heard back from them yet."

A short distance behind the two guards and the man on horseback, Nalbin spies a black-cloaked man quickly approaching a young woman from behind and to her left. This is unremarkable until the dwarf sees the flash of a hidden blade as the man draws closer to the girl.
(Spot successful) However, Claire does not seem to have noticed him. (Spot failed)

1d20+7=23 initiative (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3342108/)

The conversation between the guard and the man on horseback caught Alth's attention, and he stood up to make his presence known.  As he glanced in that direction he noticed the black-cloaked man and knew right away there was going to be trouble.  Thankfully he had a clear shot, so Alth pulled out his shortbow and fired.  As the arrow flew he noticed the dwarf call out and attack the man.  He chuckled a bit, glad someone else noticed the woman's would-be attacker.

Alth's arrow flies true, striking the hooded man in the shoulder just as he raises his blade to strike Claire in the back. The hooded man lets out a cry of pain as he clutches at the wound, alerting everyone to his presence. Just as he recoils from the girl, Nalbin closes the gap and makes his attack. The hooded man tries to parry the attack with his short sword, but he reacts too slowly. The dwarf's katana slices downward across his chest and stomach, and the hooded man collapses to the ground, his life quickly fading away. The startled crowd quickly backs away from the scene, and at last the two guards take notice of the situation. The situation is quite clear to everyone at hand.

Speaking of everyone at hand, you all gain 75 exp.

So, what do you all do?

Artur took notice of the scene as well, and got off his horse, sword drawn. He eyed the two that fell the cloaked figure, questioningly, but said nothing to them. While he doesn't recognize them, he knew a finely crafted weapon of prestige when he saw one. Given that one of them had called out a warning, they were most likely not threats. Walking up to the fallen man, he looked down at him. Turning back to the guards, he yelled out to them.

"Quickly. Unless one of you can do it yourselves, fetch someone to patch him up before he dies. He may hold at least one answer to the questions we've been seeking. If not, perhaps he'll give us a lead. Regardless, you can arrest him afterwards."

As the man behind her gets mowed down to agony in a flash, Claire turns around obviously surprised, gasping. Nervous, she nonetheless acknowledges the situation more or less quickly; she gets at a respectable distance from her dwarf savior and bows to Nalbin. As she gets up, she gives a brief look at the cloaked man on the ground behind her, and on a melodic tone she says:

"My, my! Why, thank you for saving my life, Master Dwarf, and whoever fired that arrow! How fortunate was I to have you passing by this street.. Could I see your face, Master Archer? How could I ever repay you both? Oh! and please someone help this poor man, quickly..."

She says this last line while giving another brief look at her would-be aggressor.

Alth shook his head slightly and put away his bow as he walked to the scene.  He didn't like being called "master."  Of course, he also didn't like random killings either, and it was obvious he was not fond of the hooded man.  Still, the man who Alth guessed was some sort of knight had a point.  He tore off his left sleeve and proceeded to hopefully stabilize the man.

(click to show/hide)

As he worked, he spoke to those who were still around, which seemed to be the dwarf, the knight, the lady, and a guard.

"I apologize for lack of pleasantries, but Sir Knight is correct.  This man could have useful information.  Speaking of information, I'm going to search him

In a single fluid motion, the blood is flicked free from Dolard and the Katana is returned to it's sheath. Turning to the young woman.

"Are yeh okay lass?"  he asks before joining in on the introductions.

"I be Nalbin Stoneblade" Giving a short bow before turning his attention back to the felled cloaked figure and awaiting news of his condition or any discovered information.

Claire replies on the same tone as before to Nalbin as she smiles: "I am. You have my thanks, humm, Master.. Stoneblade?"

She turns a bit just so she can see the little group clearly. Putting her hands together and lowering her head a little, on a lower tone she continues on with: "Oh, but where are my manners... I am called Claire, hum... Lady Claire, hum.. of Embers.. Harmonious Knightess.." On this last note, she swiftly check up on the agonizing man and the people around, stressed.

Alth stood up and bowed shortly to each of them.

"I am Alth.  Lady Claire, I wish I could say I knew this man would pull through but my experience with healing is too limited to make any sort of call.  I found nothing on his person besides the obvious.

He knelt back down beside the dying man to study the obvious.  A black cloak?  Brown or grey would have been better.

The two guards meander over to the site, seeming to be only mildly interested in the event. The man in the hood was a half-elf with dark brown hair, but nothing of value or identification save for the silver short sword he wielded. (Search failed) Alth was also unable to stop the man's bleeding. (Heal failed)

"Doesn't look familiar to me," one guard says to the other.

"Just some thug I guess," the other replies, shrugging his shoulders.

Artur bent down, and looked at the dying half-elf. Taking the silver dagger, he examined it.

"Alth, was it? I agree that a different coloured cloak would have been a better idea, but then again so would a steel dagger be more effective. Silver's soft. Unless you're as strong as an ogre, or plan on fighting a werewolf or vampire, this thing's all but useless."

Lightly tapping on the cloaked figure's cheeks, Artur tried to get the would-be attacker to come around, even if for a few seconds.

"There's nothing we can do for you. At least tell us why you have this silver dagger, and what your motivations were before you pass on to the next life so your conscience can be clear. I may already know the answer, but I'd like to hear it from you with your last breath."

"Silver ... draws them out ..." the dying half-elf chokes out, rousing momentarily by Artur's prodding. "I ... had to ... I ..."

The man's frame shudders as he draws his last breath, and he perishes. The guards seem more interested in Claire's singing than the man's death, and do not seem to have noticed his passing.

Artur sighed, and made sure that the half-elf's eyes were closed, before pulling the hood over the elf's face. Doing a quick and quiet prayer, Artur started to get up. Mulling over what the fell being, he turned to others who'd brought him down successfully.

"'Silver bring them out',"he repeated. "Do you make any sense of what he said?" Artur's voice trailed a bit, his curiosity getting the better of him as he noticed Claire's singing. He wasn't going to stop her, but he was interested in why she was doing this in the middle of everyone.

As the man dies slowly, so does Claire's voice, and she finally stops singing; the last words she sings are: ".. Everyone can change for good.". She sighs and then she turns to Nalbin: "Mr. Nalbin, I share your thoughts on this case, but I do not recall nor can I think of anyone specifically who would want me dead."

As she talks, she notices the halfling who just spoke next to her. She diverts her attention to him and says: "I do agree with consulting the church, but could you please introduce yourself, Mr. ...?"

Artur gestures to Alton. "I am Artur Draak, sir. Good to make your acquaintance."

Looking at the key that Alth was showing to everyone, Artur awkwardly laughs at the suggestion. "I guess I could. To be honest, I think I caught those guys on a good day. I'll see what I can do though. Unfortunately, I can't make any promises. Nothing ventured, nothing gain, however."

Looking at Claire, he tried to answer her question. "I too have been looking into his disappearance. I had only just started today so I don't have much of anything to tell at the moment. All I can really say is that there's rumours going around that a female spellscale did it, but there are those that don't believe that to be the case. Others say it's the ruins that he had discovered. Perhaps a curse for disturbing a tomb within the catacombs of the ruins, or something? Honestly don't know."

Artur walked past the group to his steed, Olwen, and hoisted himself up on to the saddle. Slowly riding back in the direction from where the half-elf came from, asking people if they had noticed from where he had originally heralded from.

The southern part of town is a residential area populated by all manner of typically friendly folk. Humans, elves, halflings, and a peculiarly large amount of gnomes all mingle freely here. That is, until, your group notices a rather angry mob trying to smash their way inside a small cottage sandwiched between two larger buildings. The mob seems to have already broken the windows, and a handful of burly fellows are using a table as a makeshift battering ram to break down the door.

What do you do?

Artur noticed the rioting mob, and decided to venture into it, hoping to disperse them. Snapping the reigns, he cried out to Olwen to charge in.

"Hyah! Let's show these miscreants the error of their actions."

As he got closer, he cried out to the mob. "You will stop what you are all doing, or you will be stopped."

Alth hears the mob shouting angry curses such as "Blasted witch!", "Filthy mongrel!" and "Hang the murderer!"

However, the crowd is quickly silenced as Artur charges into their midst. The burly men drop the table and stand in front of it in a poor attempt to hide it from view. Those who do not flee merely stare guiltily at the knight.

A fierce look appears on the knight's visage as he rides up to unruly mob, staring at them hard. He sits regally on his horse, Olwen, not moving for his sword. He felt no need to. The crowd had stopped. Softening, his expression, but keeping an unhappy tone to his voice.

"Do please explain what's going on here. I would so ever like to know what it is that you think you are doing." He squints his eyes some at the burly men as he continues. "By the by, if this place that you're raiding happens to be the home of the spellscale that I've been told about, we're all going to be in for a loooooong, day."

Nalbin steps up a few few away from the edges of the gathered crowd. It might seem a bit comical to see the small dwarf crossing his arms over his chest in a displeased manner if it wasn't for the rather hard stare being offered to the crowd. Letting any who wished to cause trouble know that the mounted knight wouldn't be the only one they'd have to deal with.

The remaining mob members stare at the knight and dwarf for a few moments longer, then swiftly break down into chaos once again as they hurl accusations at one another, all trying to lay the blame for the mob at someone else's feet.

While this is going on, everyone please make Spot checks.

Alth and Claire spot a young man climbing stealthily out of a window on the side of the cottage the mob was trying to break into. He has dark gray hair and is garbed in black and grays with a long dark red scarf around his neck. He pulls a scrap of cloth out of his pocket and wipes off the bloody blade he carries before sheathing the weapon. He then begins looking up at the roof's edge, obviously gauging the distance before attempting a jump.

The rest of the group does not spot him.

(Mind if I keep my previous initiative roll?  I'm also curious if that spot check revealed what the man's likely escape route would be, or if you'd like another check, if any?)

Alth's blood ran cold as he saw the man climb out of the cottage and wipe his bloody blade clean.  He quickly glanced towards his companions, and would have chuckled at Claire noticing the man in lieu of the earlier half-elf, but now wasn't the time.  He pulled out his bow, knocked an arrow, and shot it at the man in hopes it would ruin the escape attempt.  As he shot the arrow, he spoke to his companions loud enough for them to hear, but hopefully not loud enough that the ninja could.

"Quick, get in the cottage!  That woman's either dead or dying after that ninja attacked her!"

Artur's head whirled back at Alth's statement, and dropped off of his horse, withdrawing his sword.

Staring hard at everyone who were just trying to lay the blame on everyone else, he yelled out in a firm voice.

"Move yourself from my sight, or I will go through you." Smiling, he gripped his sword tightly. "I wish to enter the establishment."

The gray-haired young man effortlessly deflects the arrow, then scrambles up onto the roof of the cottage. At the sound of Artur's command, the villagers scatter in all directions, leaving only the battered table behind.

The skittish crowd stops fleeing, but they remain wary of the adventures. As Claire runs to see what's inside the cottage, the scarf-wearing young man jumps down from the roof to interpose himself between her and the entryway. He holds his blade at the ready but does not attack.

"I'll not let you harm her," he says defiantly.

Claire then says on a neutral tone: "Please be assured, my companion here (she points at Artur) is saying the truth; I only wish to help the person who resides in this cottage. If I lay my unsheathed weapons down, will you let me enter?" (Diplomacy (1d20+8=11) (http://invisiblecastle.com/roller/view/3348483/))

Hesitantly, the young man puts away his blade, withdraws a key from his pocket, and unlocks the front door to the tiny cottage. He holds it open, waiting for Claire and her companions to enter. The front room of the cottage is scantly furnished. Only a small sofa by the fireplace occupies this room. An open door at the far end allows access to the kitchen, and a set of stairs leads up to the second floor. At the base of the stairs are the bodies of two men, both clearly dead.

The crowd shies further away from Nalbin, (Intimidate successful) as no one has the audacity to try to attack well-armed adventurers. The citizens watch the goings-on as best they can from the other side of the street.

Alth's initial survey of the house
(Spot successful) allows him to notice that a small room to the left of the front room is a tiny room dominated by a desk and a chair. Lining the walls of the room are bookshelves, all of them stuffed beyond safe capacity. However, a more thorough search of the ground floor reveals nothing of further interest. (Search failed)

The young man eyes Alton suspiciously, but says nothing as he enters.

"Voitheia is upstairs," the young man replies to Artur. "I told her to lock the door and hide. These two men here came in through the window and tried to force their way upstairs. I did not hesitate to act."

"My name is Akurei," he says in answer to Claire's question. "As for the men, I hadn't searched them yet. I was too busy dealing with all of the other things going on. Feel free to search them if you like."

Akurei gives Artur a nod before proceeding upstairs, motioning for the adventurers to follow him. Once on the second floor, a short hallway can be seen, with a door on either side and a third door at the end of the hall. Akurei gives a short series of knocks on the left door, and after a moment the sound of a lock being drawn back can be heard. Cautiously emerging from the room is a young woman garbed in a dark blue tunic. Soft copper scales cover her body, long white hair reaches down to her waist, and a pair of vestigial horns grow back from her brow and reach the back of her head. She casts her worried eyes in the group's direction.

"Hello?" she asks timidly.

Alth rocked between the balls of his feet and his heels before deciding to search the men instead of heading up to talk with Voitheia.  Since he didn't want to appear rude or suspicious, he spoke up to let the others know what he was doing.

"Forgive me for not accompanying you right away, but I feel it wise to inspect these two just in case they are more than regular disgruntled townsfolk."  They'd probably call him paranoid, but he was of the opinion that just because one isn't paranoid doesn't mean others aren't out to get them.  With that in mind, he took extra care to examine the dead men.

Artur walked up to the lady, and bowed.

Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on February 03, 2012, 05:25:54 PM
"Toran and I were friends and colleagues. We researched draconian history, trying to separate reality from myth in the hopes of garnering some kernel of valuable knowledge. Toran was obsessed with the secret magic dragons are rumored to keep, while I was more interested in learning more about my own draconian heritage. We knew that there may be some risk involved in attempting to peer at the knowledge of dragons, but we thought we could keep the danger to ourselves minimal by hiring out adventurers to explore the places we thought may contain something pertinent to our research. He was paid quite well for delivering our findings to the king, and he received much recognition as well. I was happy to just be helping Toran."

Voitheia pauses, wiping a tear from her eye.

"A few weeks ago, I was able to translate and decode an encrypted a book that was written in a combination of draconic and goblinoid. The book hinted at the existance of a very ancient and still active cult that worships some vile dragon god. It also detailed a handful of possible locations for where the cult's stronghold could be. When I showed my findings to Toran, he got very upset with me and told me not to look into it further. I eventually got him to change his mind, and we set about for days researching the cult and talking to people who we thought might know something. We weren't able to learn much, so we had resolved to hire out a group of adventurers to go explore the locations we thought the cult might be located."

Her shoulders shudder with grief as she relays the final piece of information.

"I was over at his house ... the night Toran disappeared. He was fussing with the stew he had in the copper, and I was in the bath at the time. I heard a window break, and I heard Toran scream. I was so scared, I didn't know what to do. I hid until the noises stopped, then I grabbed a robe and ran out to see what had happened. The room was in shambles and Toran was gone, so I gathered up as much of our work as I could and ran away. I didn't stop running until I got home and locked the door. It's all my fault he's gone ..."

Alth had come up the stairs by the time Voitheia finished talking.  Even downstairs he had managed to hear all of it.

When she finished, he introduced himself and bowed.

"Miss Voitheia, my name is Alth.  I finished searching the men and found this vial of poison on one of them.  After hearing your story about your research and what happened with Toran, I believe the cult sent them to abduct you.  It's possible they will try again too, and with greater effort."

Alth sighed heavily and tapped his foot a little in contemplation.

"Besides Toran's kidnapping, has there been anything strange occur since you've started your research?"

"What hasn't been strange lately?" Voitheia replies with a heavy sigh. "I've received threatening letters practically every day, my friends and neighbors have all turned violently against me, I've been having terribly nightmares, and to top it all off a strange man showed up in my kitchen yesterday and explains that he has been assigned to protect me until it is deemed no longer necessary. Of course he won't tell me who sent him, why they want me protected, or even his last name."

"No need to make me sound so cryptic," Akurei laughs sheepishly.

Alth eyed Akurei for a moment.

"But you are.  My gut says you're trustworthy, but the fact that you won't give out certain information means you're a mystery.  Alton has a point though, we have a more pressing mystery than your last name, Akurei.  Voitheia, may I see your research on this cult?  You mentioned they might have camps, and I'd bet a few gold Toran was taken to one of them."

(So much for him being quiet eh?  lol)

Akurei says nothing, merely chuckles as he shrugs his shoulders.

"Of course," Voitheia replies before disappearing into her room.

She returns a few moments later carrying a large scroll, a quill, and a bottle of ink. She knees on the ground and unfurls the scroll, revealing it to be a map of the continent. She pops open the bottle of ink, uses her knee and right hand to hold the map steady, then with her left dips the quill into the ink and proceeds to make five X marks on the map. She marks the Black-Smoke Hills, the Arid Salt Flats, Quiet Knoll, the northern tip of Ken Kosuta, and the last X is placed in the Frozen Wastes.

"None of these places were ever mentioned by name," she explains, "but some descriptions I found in a journal match these areas precisely. The journal was written in the same code as the original book that got me started researching the cult, so it's highly likely that the woman who wrote the journal was a member. The journal never actually states that the locations she goes to are the cult's headquarters, but they're the only things we have to go off of."

She looks up at the group, slightly misty-eyed.

"I cannot thank you enough for helping me find Toran," Voitheia says with a small smile.

Claire was quietly listening all this time, although by the middle of the discussion she was avoiding eyes contact; being in a more private place for what seemed to her like a good period of time now, her shyness got the best of her. She kept listening carefully, and she subtly nodded at Voitheia. Always smiling, she mutters: "..O-of course." A bit louder and looking indistinctly towards Akurei, she continues with: "Akurei.. would you know anything concerning this aforementioned cult.. by any chance?"
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on February 06, 2012, 09:39:13 PM
"The cultists are very good at hiding their activities," Voitheia replied to Alth's question. "They do their best to conceal their presence from everyone, and as far as I know they rarely gather in large groups. The scroll mentioned that members would know of each other by a mark of some kind, though whether it is a tattoo, a hand gesture, or something else entirely I do not know. I don't know anything about tactics either, only that they claim to be very deceptive. I'm sorry I don't know more."

The spellscale blows on the map a few times to help dry the ink, then rolls it up and hands it to Alth. Akurei looks curiously over at Claire, seemingly surprised at her question. He ponders the question a moment before replying.

"I'm afraid I don't," he answers with a shrug. "However, if anyone is doing anything suspicious here in the city, I guarantee that Nami would know about it."

"I'll keep the little lady safe, you can count on me. Oh, and give Nami my regards," Akurei laughs.

***

The short journey to the docks is uneventful, and soon the sweet scent of Ken Kosutan spices is overwhelmed by the salt air and the pungent odor of fish. The place is filled with men and women hard at work moving crates to and from ships, inspecting goods, and otherwise doing what they can to make an honest living for themselves. When not hard at work, these folk likely spend their time at the nearby tavern: The Black Scorpion.

Suddenly, the sound of breaking glass draws your attention as a man garbed in black is hurled through the second story window of a building nearby and crashes into a stack of crates apparently filled with oranges. A few moments later, the door to the building bursts open, and a young woman runs headlong into your midst. She has short-cropped brown hair, tan skin, and is garbed in a pale yellow tunic with a brown sash tied around her waist.

"You're armed," she says, sounding slightly surprised. "If you have any aid to offer, I would greatly appreciate it!"

Coming out of the same building are six more men clad in black, all armed with long thin blades. They don't look like they are in the mood to chat.

Everyone please roll for initiative.

Susanoah (http://www.myth-weavers.com/sheetview.php?sheetid=366805)

With the smell of salted fish and malt beer filling his nose, Susanoah made his way through the seafront district. He was headed toward the docks. Susanoah considered it a privilege to patrol the seafront district, a privilege he didn't get to enjoy often enough. He loved the great food, the rugged, adventurous atmosphere, and the hardworking people.

Before he'd gotten far, he'd begun to hear a sort of commotion, raised voices, anger. The tell-tale signs of unrest. The very reason he was on the streets. Raising an arm to clench a fist around the grip of his sword, Susanoah took off in a sprint toward the noise.

Susanoah

A woman being chased from a building, out into the streets, by a group of men. Another group of men waiting, armed and ready for a fight. Shot fired by the group in the street upon one of the first group. Gang violence.

With a leathery creak, Susanoah's grip closes tightly around the handle of his sword just before he rings it from its sheath and charges through the street toward the assailant.

"Not on my streets, thug!" Susanoah cries as he tackles the man with the shortbow.

Alth avoided the attack easily (touch AC 17), then hissed at the newcomer in a low voice.

"Unless you want a paladin, a knight, and a samurai at your throat, I'd suggest you attack those men in black!  Can't you see we're trying to defend this woman?" After pointing out his respective party mates, he points over to the woman he assumes is Nami.

At last the door breaks open. The room beyond is cramped but cozy, with a bed dominating the left half of the room, a simple rug on the floor, a chest-of-drawers next to the window the thug had been shooting out of, and a comfortable looking chair by a desk shoved against the right wall of the room.

The thug sits motionless against the wall beneath the window, his heavy crossbow on the floor beside him. He bleeds profusely from the mouth, and the crossbow bolt protruding from the back of his skull offers grisly evidence of what occurred. It would seem death is a better alternative than capture for these people.

"Don't worry about the bodies," a man's voice said as Alth, Claire, and Nami reentered the street. "We'll take care of the cleanup."

A man stood nonchalantly in the middle of the carnage, a smirk playing across his thin lips. He was tall and rangy with short cropped black hair and tan skin. He wore a leather cap, a white shirt beneath a long leather riding jacket, brown trousers, and black leather boots. Standing beside him were two men wearing the uniforms of the city watch.

"There's always trouble down at the docks," Faber replied as he procured a pipe from his coat pocket, lit it, and proceeded to smoke. "Still, these fellas were more violent than what we're used to dealing with. Drunken brawls at the taverns or disputes between merchants over the price of goods ... well, that's one thing. Murder is another. I had planned on setting up an operation to catch them red handed, but the Guardsmen laid claim to it before I could. Bastards."

Surprised, Claire stayed silent for a bit and then spoke politely to Faber "Well, I am glad we could be of any help... Thank you.. for your assistance in getting rid of these, hum.. sir Watchmen Horst Faber. My name is Claire, Lady Claire of Embers.. Anyhow, like my companion just mentioned, we would highly like to interrogate this man." She pointed the unconscious man. "Please, could we have some time with him when he comes back to his senses, sir?"

Faber furrowed his brow in thought. After a moment, he gave a nod.

"Let me know when you three are done with him," the watchman replied.

Alth contemplated whether to give his name.  In all honesty he had forgotten to mention it, but saying it now would be awkward.  He simply shrugged and went back to examining the thugs.  He then pulled out some silk rope from his pack.  "Need to restrain him if we don't want him to injure us or himself.  From what I've seen, these men would rather die than be taken prisoner.  Watchman Faber, do you have any experience restraining people perchance?  I'm fairly dextrous but rope isn't something I've actively practiced with."

Adjusting his cowl to better hide hide face, Uube (pronounced like ooooh-be) continues down the street headed to the docks.

He was following up on the one real lead he has gotten. Just the other day he met with a women named Voitheia and spoke with her about his... Heritage. And just moments ago he got a message, she sent word to him about a group of people that had taken it upon them selves to follow up on the cult of dragon worshippers and was in a hurry to catch up worth them

Rounding the corner he happens to see the city guard arresting yet another person. Crime is always a problem, maintaining his full pace he walks past the group. As he passes the man arresting another speaks up using the honorific title of "watchmen" rather than "boss" which is a little odd. His pace slows and he find a darkened spot. Walking into it he turns and leans his back against the wall to better watch the scene before him. Ruffling his pockets for the note from Voitheia and grabbing it. He leans his hand into the light and rereads her description of the people that came to visit her. Certainly sounds like a match, Uube wonder's just what has happened and watches them to get an idea of just who they are...

"Who uses rope?" Faber asked with a shrug. "Use this instead."

He tossed Alth a set of masterwork manacles.

Alth caught the manacles and proceeded to lock them onto the thug's forearms behind his back.  "When there are better alternatives, no one really."

Shortly after being cuffed, the thug awoke and greeted everyone present with a vile glare. He then began to swear harshly at everyone in a most foul-sounding tongue.

Does anyone speak Goblin?

Alth understood the man and might have translated if he felt the cussing was something worthwhile to actually say in any language.  "He's speaking Goblin, and I'll let you all imagine what cusses they might have in that tongue."

He replied back to the man in Goblin, "You will be silent unless spoken to.  Got that?"

Claire's look and demeanor were that of an authoritative figure of some kind: young yet mature and demanding enough to instil a bit of tension in the air. There was almost an hint of sympathy her eyes while she looked at the man however, even after hearing Alth's words; she couldn't understand the thug. With a passive but strict tone she said to the thug "Insulting and cursing anyone is not going to help you here. Rather, you should be thankful to even be alive right now. Tell me, do you understand me right now?"

"Yes girl, I understand you," the man replied grudgingly in common, his voice coarse and low. "I will tell you and your boy only one thing: the spy whore is marked for death!"

He glared furiously at Nami, as if wishing that he could kill her with his gaze.

Meanwhile, Faber sent his two fellow watchmen to fetch help to carry the bodies away. Faber remained behind, standing watch over the scene from across the street. He glanced suspiciously at Uube, but said nothing.

Claire cleared her throat and then turned her head toward the newcomer. She looked up, checking Uube's partly cloaked face, and said calmly, "I do not advocate torture and will certainly not let it happen in front of me. What are you doing here, and who are you, if I may ask?"

The cloaked figure holds his step. Appearing lost in thought for a moment before talking again he says and asks, "I gave an answer, it is unfair for me to provide more. I am looking for some people who recently spoke to a friend of mine whose name starts with a V, do you know where they are?"

Alth also turned to look at the newcomer when he first spoke, but waited a bit to better look him over.  "Within this city there are at least a hundred people whose names start with 'V.'  You'll have to be more descriptive than that.  I'm Alth, since you seem keen on keeping this exchange 'fair.'"

The man before you is dressed in a plain well worn hooded cloak wrapped around him but through the front opening to can see it's over equally worn clothing. Belted to his side is a club and worn on is back is a long walking stick that sticks up through a hole in the cloth. His hands and face are strangely orange tinted and covered with scales. Two short tusks protruding upwards out of his mouth from his lower jaw and odder still his eyes lack any color in the iris appearing as it only a small dark vertical slit decorates his eyes. Definitely appears or at least can be mistaken for being of a draconic heritage which probably explains his desire to remain concealed.

"I am Uube, and umm... You were supposed to guess that. I mean you look just like them." He reaches into his cloak and pulls out a parchment and slowly reads it before looking back at you. "Alth right? Yeah, you should be him." He gestures to the none-violent yet still intimidating women, "And she is Claire right?"

Claire briefly facepalmed as she heard the thug but she continued with: "Hmph, fairness eh.. Regardless, yes, I am Claire, Lady Claire of Embers. As aforementioned, please state your business.. Mr. Uube?"

Uube glances at the faces around unsure of who to answer first. Looking at Claire and Alth he addresses them saying, "I learned of Toran in my travels and came here to meet with him. Instead I spoke with Voitheia on... Many things. I was unsure what to do next and just an hour or so before I received a letter from her telling me about some brave adventurers and it suggested that if I am to learn anything I should go with you guys." Uube gestures at the criminal, "The lady said I cannot slay your fingers so please stop asking."

"Perhaps we can speak more privately? I was worried if her judgment was sound but your intolerance of torture has impressed me." adds Uube.

Uube starts down the path towards the docks looking for the world's most common place to sit down and talk things out. The local tavern.
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on May 08, 2012, 11:59:05 AM
The only tavern in the docks district was a squat, seedy tavern called The Black Scorpion. The windows were shuttered constantly, ensuring that the only source of dim illumination in the place were the candles placed on each table. The only part of the tavern well-lit was a sandy pit in the center of the large main room. The pit was ten feet deep, thirty feet around, and fenced off with wire. Given the dark stains on the walls of the pit, it was quite clear what it was used for.

Across the room at the bar counter, the tavern master gave a small nod of his head in acknowledgement of your presence. He was a tall and rangy man swathed in black with a hood shadowing the upper half of his pale face.

"Welcome to The Black Scorpion," he hissed. "Seat yourselves where you please. Hmmm ..."

Uube takes an empty table with the least amount of light or attention towards it. Sitting down he addresses the strangers, "so who is your fourth there?" as Nami hasn't spoken to him yet.

*** If none of this fits in with you Sleepy just let me know and I'll edit appropriately ***

Ordering a round he starts up a story about being born in a tank by what he would later understand was some kind of spellcaster attempting to replicate the Dragonborn race. "In the past when the Gods, or perhaps dragons posing as gods, would grant the powers of the Dragonborn altering a person's body to be more like the dragons of old granting them incredible power as the lore would say. My name, Uube Threethirtyfive, carries remnants of how I came to be. I was the three hundredth and thirty-fifth attempt to create a Dragonborn. I do not know if I volunteered for this, who I was, what I did, but given how being were made into Dragonborn it stands to reason I had a life before this. I am... Unstable. Incomplete and ultimately a failure sent to his death. I survived and lived in a forest for some time before I met others. The town was attacked and I have lived on the move since trying to discover my past life and who did this. As I said before. I heard about Toran and his draconic research and came here to learn what I could. Instead I learned he was kidnapped by a dragon worshiping cult, perhaps it was them? I'm not sure but I intend to find out and with that we have the same goal in mind."". With a wink he adds, "through I may have to break some fingers along the way."

Alth quirked an eyebrow at Uube.  "Like Lady Claire, I don't condone torture, though I have somewhat different reasons.  Mostly it's ineffective for getting information.  And it's distasteful."

He lowered his voice to hopefully make sure only those at the table could hear him.  "As to what we're doing here, Toran's case piqued our interests and we've been searching for some answers.  We went to the docks because Voitheia said we could find a monk named Nami who had a knack for getting information."

Alth took a look around to notice whether anyone was listening in them.

Only the bartender seemed to be paying attention to the table, watching the group as if waiting for someone to place an order. He did not look the sort to go to the customer, rather he seemed content to stare people down until they came to him at the bar.

Feeling uneasy after hearing Uube's story as well as not liking the bar she had stepped in, Claire was shying out of the conversation, simply nodding as sign of acknowledgement whenever anyone talked. "Wine for me, please," Nami said to Alth, smiling warmly at Claire. "As for our business at hand, the cultists aren't just human. They have goblinoids in their ranks as well. Furthermore, they have recently been attempting to ally the giants with them as well, though from what I've gathered relations are mild at best. I am uncertain what their motives are behind this."

She paused for a moment of thought, resting her head in her hands. She smiled again as she continued.

"I have overheard a few of the cultists refer to someone they call the Star Queen, though I have neither been able to confirm or deny her existence," she related. "The only piece of information I've been able to find out about her is that she is incredibly important to them. Perhaps she is their leader? The goddess they follow? I can only speculate on this matter. However, I do have a piece of concrete information that may interest you. A small group of cultists left today on an expedition to some ruins they believe were once the home of an ancient dragon. I'm not sure what it is they're after, but I doubt it's anything good. I tried to follow them but that's when I got caught. Luckily you arrived on-scene when you did."

The back section of of the tavern lay behind the bar counter through a locked door that the bartender unlocked with a silver key kept around his neck on a leather cord. Beyond the door was a narrow hall with four doors on either side and a blank wall at the far end. The bartender directed the group toward the door on the farthest left.

Nami leaned in to take a look at the map, studying it curiously. She was silent for several long minutes.

"The first place marked on the map, the Black-Smoke Hills, is not very far from here," she said at length. "A large tribe of hobgoblins live there. Given the cult's connection to goblinoids, it isn't much of a stretch to guess that they have allied themselves with the hobgoblins. The Arid Salt Flats down in Al-Hassan are just that: a dry and lifeless patch of worthless soil. Well, I suppose the salt mines there aren't worthless, but I don't know anything about that area beyond that. Perhaps the miners discovered something down there? Quiet Knoll is an abandoned town a few miles west of here, and it's rumored to be haunted. I'm uncertain what the cult would be doing there. Ken Kosuta is my homeland, so I'm quite familiar with the area marked on your map. There is a lovely bamboo forest where the mark is, filled with all sorts of fantastic creatures. Oh, there's also a small shrine out there as well. As for the last mark, the one in the Frozen Wastes, rumor has it that a group of adventurers recently discovered some ancient ruins out there. Perhaps the cult doesn't like what they found? Perhaps they want it for themselves. I'm only speculating."
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: Jackinthegreen on June 07, 2012, 05:32:56 PM
Alth looked at Uube and raised his eyebrows in surprise for a bit, but nodded a little just the same.  "We should be able to work something out.  As for where we should go, I'm not sure if we have enough equipment to investigate most of these.  A large tribe of hobgoblins will be a problem, especially for a small group like us.  While studying the language and culture of various goblinoids I noticed hobgoblins tend to be very militant and ordered.  I might be able to sneak around but I'm not sure how you three would fare.

With the salt flats I'm mostly worried about food and shelter, plus the chance the miners found something unpleasant.

Quiet Knoll might be good, but I'm worried that if it is haunted we might not be able to fend off ghosts and such.  Rumors usually have a grain of truth in them.

Nami, were you going to follow those thugs to the Frozen Wastes?  You mentioned they were going to some ruins.  Do you or they have heavy clothes for the weather there?

As for the forest in Ken Kosuta, what kind of creatures are there?  Can we handle something that might attack us?"
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on June 07, 2012, 09:38:01 PM
"I'm fairly good at sneaking around as well, but you do have a point about the other two," Nami replied. "It wouldn't be wise for us to let them be caught by the hobgoblins.

It's also a very long journey from here. I would think it more prudent to investigate the closer areas first.

I'm not afraid of ghosts. Are you?

No, they weren't headed there. The ruins that they were going to are just a couple miles east of town.

Mostly wild animals, though there are a few spiritfolk that live there as well. Nothing terribly worrying as long as you don't anger The River Maiden."

"That depends on what you mean by 'afraid.'  If you mean concerned we'll get in over our heads and not be able to defend ourselves if they are hostile, then yes I am.  I can't shoot a ghost and I'm pretty sure you can't punch one either.  As for the other places, the ruins just East of here do seem promising.  Shall we?"

"Hiding never was my forte, I must say.." said Claire, giggling. "How far would be your homeland of Ken Kosuta, Nami? From my point of view, it seems to be the least dangerous of all these locations considering that we may not be equipped to fare against ghosts, or raise arms against an entire tribe and their possible allies, or against harsh weather and landscapes.." The journey to the ruins proved uneventful, and by the time the group had arrived at the site any remaining wounds they suffered had healed. Nami guided the group to a deep crevice in the earth that was more akin to a massive pit than anything else. Uube, having drifted off to sleep during the long discussion, came to and was told to prepare to travel. Carrying everything he owned already the task was easily solved with a trip to the slop bucket.

Upon landing he followed Nami to the pit where apparently she now wishes to leave them. Peering over the edge he couldn't help but hawk a lugie over the edge (and some minor acid mixed with it) to test the distance, a certain trait that apparently many Humans are capable of, but fails to understand how it works and decides its just 'very deep'.

"Luck? Are you not coming with us?" he asks Nami.

Alth pulled the silk rope out of his pack and tied it to a secure rock close to the edge of the pit. (Taking 10 gets him a 15, which is plenty for a firm knot.)

"There's the rope, though I'm wondering if Uube or I should go first.  We can see in the dark after all, and it is quite dark down there.  I don't want to light a torch and give away our position just yet."

Just around the corner of the hall stood what may have once been a man. The man's skin was deathly pale, his long hair was tangled and matted, and his sunken eyes glowed with putrid blue light. He let out a baleful howl as he reached out to attack.

Alth breathed a quick sigh of relief, but that was quickly lost when he realized that that thing's ruckus would probably alert the humans.  He made sure to stay wary of whatever might come from that direction as he did the special knock on the door.

"Nah lass" He says in response to Nami's question, turning his head so an ear was facing the door, he'd listen. Upon hearing nothing, he'd jam the tip of his finger into his ear, and after a good bit of forceful wriggling, it was pulled out. Wiping a large chunk of wax upon the rock he was sitting on.

Upon hearing the knocking he'd spring to his feet, moving the short distance to the door he'd finish the tune before opening it. Once Alth was through, he'd close it.

Alth quickly slid through the door and caught his breath before speaking.  "We have a problem.  About ninety feet down that tunnel is some sort of thing that perhaps used to be a man.  If any of you heard a howl, it was that creature.  I fired a shot and took its ear off, but I knew I couldn't take it on my own.  I am praying none of the cultists heard it, but it would have been foolish of them to station it there if it wasn't audible."

He looked around at the room they were in.  "If we piled rocks by the door, we might be able to buy ourselves enough time to rest.  I'll take first watch because the sooner you all get some rest the better.  Is everyone okay with that?"

The lone warrior trudged up to the edge of the pit.

He stood a little under six feet tall with broad shoulders, made broader by the scale mail armor he wore. The armor was scratched and dented from dozens of battles, much like the shield strapped across his back. The hilt of a great-sword and the tips of several javelins protruded from behind the shield. A longsword hung from a scabbard on his left hip, while a warhammer hung from his right.

<Of course the ruins are at the bottom of some sort of giant pit.> thought the warrior with a sigh, <Why don't I ever get to go on quests to a nice meadow or the beach? It's always gotta be the haunted forest, the cliffs of despair, the temple of doom, or somesuch. >

<Not to forget the ruins at the bottom of a giant pit outside of town.>

He spent a few moments looking for a way down.

<Huh, they must have left a rope tied up here when they went down. Smart, if they need to make a quick escape.>

<Maybe I'll have a moment to rest.>

Wearily, the warrior removed his battered helm.

His salt and pepper hair betrayed him as a man well into his years. He had a square clean-shaven jaw, with a weathered face and a large nose. His only physical feature that could be deemed attractive was his hazel eyes. They had a warmth to them that spoke of kindness and generosity of spirit.

The old man allowed his thoughts to wander for a moment. The places he had been. The things he had seen.

From below, the old man heard a sound, like stone scraping against stone.

<So much for my rest.>

The warrior squared his shoulders, quickly donned his helmet, and began descending into the darkness.

<I'm getting too old for this.>

About halfway down the rope, the old warrior encountered another creature, though this bloody and weary bugbear was attempting to climb up instead of down. The furry humanoid paused on the rope and looked up at the old man.

"Will you climb back up or should I climb back down?" the bugbear asked in a low but civil tone.
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: Pimpforged on October 08, 2012, 10:57:20 PM
"I will climb up, of course." Replied the man once he got over his surprise, "You appear to be injured."

Upon reaching the top, he offered his hand to the bugbear to help him out of the pit.

"Have you perchance encountered a human woman by the name of Nami?  She would be in the company of three others.  Another human, a dwarf, and a gnome."
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory

"Aye lad, we should probably be doin' this as quickly as possible before we have company." He'd say as he began helping the others stack and move larger rocks infront of the door.
Title: Re: The Long Road to Glory
Post by: SleepyShadow on October 09, 2012, 09:49:46 AM
The bugbear politely refused the helping hand, being a very proud creature. However, once away from the pit's edge he bowed his head to the man.

"Though their names escape me, the group you describe is who gave me these wounds," the bugbear explained. "Are you the one whom my former employers wait for?"

Meanwhile, it did not take long for the group to block the door. While the rest of the group did that, it allowed Uube time to rest and recover a bit of his strength.

"Not as far as I know." the warrior replied, his mind whirling.

<Have I been set up?  Was this all some sort of trap?>
<Who were the bugbear's former employers?  Could the group I am following be them?>
<If so, why did they fight?  The bugbear seems a decent enough sort, perhaps he did not want to go along with their murderous plans?>

<Caution is needed.>

Alth would have rapped Uube on the head with his bow, if he could reach.  Instead he gave an exasperated sigh.  "Uube, I expect your experience has taught you otherwise, but attacking people out of the blue is not a good way to handle things.  Especially when they've demonstrated a want to avoid violence.  If you really feel the need to punch something I reckon the thing that used to be a man is still in the tunnel."

"Kipper wonder why we even bring a spud like youse along, Aki," the small kobold grumbled. "Youse never in sync with rest of group."

The kobolds' chatter amused Alth a bit, but he wasn't going to smile in front of them.  "Good choice.  Now, move against the wall and away from the tunnel.  We'll be plugging it up for a bit."  At this point Alth gave Uube a meaningful look to imply he'd be the one to plug up the tunnel since he was the most capable.

Once the kobolds are situated Alth moves to question them.  "First, who or what is your employer?  I don't expect you to tunnel without a bit of pay behind it."

The four kobolds sat down against the wall, Kipper looking quite irritated with the whole situation.

"I told youse that we should'a brought the weapons," the largest of the kobolds muttered to Kipper.

"Shut your noise pipe, Malachite," Kipper snapped irritably.

"Knew it was bad idea for female kobold to be in charge," the third kobold snickered.

"Leave Kipper alone, Bass," Aki whined.

"I be in charge because I'm smarter than you spuds," Kipper said as she firmly whacked Aki and Bass on their heads with the flats of her palms. "I also be smart enough to not tell tall folk our business."

Kipper folded her arms over her chest cynically. "Maybe. What's the password, tall folk?"

Alth got an idea and prayed it would work for them.  He took a little bit and mentally activated his Ghost Sound spell-like ability to create the loud voice of a harassed-sounding woman that seemed to come from the ceiling, though somewhat distorted and with an echo that he hoped would give the feel of being magically created by their boss and be able to cover up the genericness of it.  He pricked his ears as the voice started talking, then quickly turned around and aimed his bow towards the ceiling.

"Enough!  Kipper, you are to tell my associates what they want to know.  Include the password with it.  I have been too busy to contact them with further details until now and think it best to make sure you fill them in as a sort of test.  Do not disappoint me." And the voice trailed off.

A massive figure crept cautiously down the tunnel toward the group of adventurers. The humanoid had cloven hooves instead of feet, and a pair of long horns curled back behind its head. Swathed in black attire, little else could be made out of the creature. Even its long snout was covered by a cloth mask. The only distinctive features were its glowing yellow eyes. Steel shoulder plates, bracers, and shin guards were the only armor the creature wore, though a pair of longswords sheathed in bronze sheaths were strapped to its back.

He busied himself by cleaning up Alshen's and Uube's remains.  He laid the longswords across Alshen's chest and left the earring on, but took the caltrops, hook, and rope and set them to the side for them to take with once they finished the burials.

He finished digging the respectable graves, each side by side. With Alth's help he'd lower each fallen warrior into their grave. Making sure that each was resting peacefully before climbing out. Uube's was the first one he began to fill with dirt, before starting the process he'd stand over the open grave looking down to Uube, saluting his fallen comrade "T'was an honor ta fight by yer side lad!." Before beginning the burial, he would pause to allow Alth and Nami to say their goodbye.

The same process was repeated with Alshen, same salute before "T'was an honor ta face yeh in battle!"

Once both warriors had been laid to rest, the shovel was slid inside his own backpack.

"With you?" She pulls back her hood revealing similar features to Uube. But yet for as similar as they are, orange scaly skin, white eyes, they are different. Traces of metal can be seen and she is... Almost mechanical in her motions rather than the fluidity found in Uube's well trained statue. "You must be the group he left town for. I am his sister.
