I'm guessing gnomes wont have the racial "impromptu kickstand or foot rest" :(

Dwarves are better for that. They support more weight. They're also more aerodynamic for games of kicking.

You guys should stop ranting about what the PHB will look like when it isn't even published yet.

As a probably-NPC race with all the justification a DM needs to keep them out of the game. Hey look, there's your out, Captnq.

On a tangentially related topic, I hate when perfectly viable game mechanics get sectioned off as "for NPCs only".

The only acceptable reason for not allowing a PC to be a gnome in your game is if gnomes don't exist in your campaign setting.

You guys should stop ranting about what the PHB will look like when it isn't even published yet.

We have a member on these boards with a leaked copy, who has been posting a brief review.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

Seriously. WotC needs to decide whether they want to make their shit setting-neutral or not. Even if it isn't, shit like this is not fine, because it will not apply to all games who may or may not be playing in your fucking setting. Give us the fucking rules and we'll use them as we fucking see fit, you don't get to adjudicate people's tables when the last 30 years have been about "Table Choice". Either fucking commit to it in your goddamned books, or fuck off with exclusionary text.

Yeah, I call bullshit on the legitimacy of that if you didn't notice.

I'm willing to take it with a grain of salt. There was a similar situation with 4E, and the 4E PHB came out looking remarkably like the leaked copy, just tightened up a bit (fixed table layouts, a couple typographical errors fixed, etc). Very little, if any, of the text changed.

I'll admit that it is possibly legitimate, however I do have an issue with people ranting about what is said in a single review of what might possibly maybe be a copy of the 5E PHB.

It would be different if we'd all read the same source material and were ranting about that.

I think my biggest rant about it besides their exclusionary/inclusionary wishy-washy bullshit is that race-based SLAs are still one/day and thus still fucking useless. I haven't reached the resting rules yet which might have a Short Rest refresh them or something, but seriously?

EDIT: Okay, modified slightly; they get a basic Cantrip, which are unlimited, and their race decides what their casting stat is. Then they get a 1/day pre-selected SLA at 3rd level and 1/day pre-selected SLA at 5th level. Slightly better.

Reminds me of that time some folks were fretting about allowing monstrous races as PCs; not because of unbalanced abilities or anything like that, but because it would end up with the adventuring party looking like it came out of a scene from a Mos Eisley cantina.

Yeah, I can get that fear if you're going for a Tolkien-ish world, but if you're doing Dark Sun or Planescape or a game where bug-people and tieflings are rubbing shoulders in city streets that should be a non-issue.

Another bit of rage that only seems to matter to me on the subject of common courtesy: If a person says they don't want to do something, provide a reason, the appropriate fucking response is not to go 'Fuck your reasons, do it anyways'. And if you point this out, everyone who witnessed it jumps on you for using terms like 'Screw you' in response.

Example: Person A says they're withdrawing from a game because A: They made their intentions clear in the interest check thread, has already played the module in question and was only interested in playing a character type that is the same type as most of the big bads to explore how things might change under the DM, B: Has chosen to exit in as inoffensive a manner as possible after clarifying with the DM.

Person B says 'why don't you play a different character', quoting brief explanation made by Player A and clearly not reading any of it.

Person A points out why this is disrespectful as fuck.

DM jumps down Person A's throat.

You know what? Fuck you. It was a reasonable response to this bullshit, and I'm tired of seeing it go unchecked when otherwise amiable people are being told 'Fuck your reasons, do it anyway'. Fuck you Person B, fuck you DM for letting that shit go on, and fuck you twice DM for jumping down my fucking throat for pointing out it being an idiotic, fucking disrespectful response.

I find the easiest way to respond when people bully me for a reason I'm not going to do something is to say "Because it cuts into the time I spend masturbating to amputee porn.  Which coincidentally is the only form of stress relief that prevents me from violently murdering all of you."

But then you gotta put up with people whispering about you... :rolleyes

Actually the only thing that keeps me from violently murdering is the soothing feel of a handle in hand and the resistance of a flogger striking an upraised backside, looking down upon a partner encased within a fiendish device that renders them immobile and unable to avoid the biting blows.

...If people whisper about that, fuck 'em.
