Maeve finishes cataloging the extent of her returned magic. She looks over to the man who, not incredibly long before now, had impaled her with her own crystallized power.

"So, Lord Dracula. Pardon me for speaking before being spoken to, though I am wondering what is to come next. I suppose it is not terribly out of place to assume that you are not done with us, and that you will want us to follow up on our recent mission. Have you yet determined to where we shall be sent, and with what purpose?"

"Is it enthusiasm I detect in your voice, Maeve?

You're right, after a fashion. I do intend to have you follow up on your mission. The kind of magic device that enabled the culprit's death is not uncommon among spies in the black market. The particular theme it was fashioned after suggests custom work.

I will be sending you to the city-state of Walesti, in the subterranean kingdoms. Certain contacts among the illithid community should prove useful in tracking down the vendor - it comes as no surprise that creatures whose main diet consists of the physical embodiment of the mind should value information so highly.

However, I would hope you seek to complete your work of your own volition. I will not force you to go. It is merely the course of action that would please me the most."

"I shall go," Elizabeth stated, thinking on this for a second, "It seems like an interesting enough place."

By which she meant that it sounded like somewhere full of easily-available meals.

"Not enthusiasm, as such, no. I do take some measure of pride in seeing that my work is completed, and as this mission is nowhere near completed, it is my obligation to do what I can to see it through." Maeve smiles politely, though by now anyone who is at least somewhat familiar with her knows it is simply part of her facade, a professional face that she does not change greatly from unless something or someone has greatly displeased her. She feels that nothing could be worth breaking that facade in present company, as doing so would constitute a breaking of professional courtesy and that could be disastrous.

"Professional courtesy" is a cute euphemism for "my employer could behead me for looking at him funny". Or impale as the case may be.

Then again, he'd have done that already if he wanted to.

"Very well, Muramasa. We'll leave you to your craft for now."

Silva rises when Death steps out and makes to follow her back to Dracula.

Claudia holds one of Silva's hands and starts dragging her faster back to Dracula's throne room. The Jester is clearly filled with the joy of expectation of what work Muramasa will do in her weapon.

Silva is led along without difficulty, smiling herself.

"I'm not sure that that's quite how that works Claudia, but I'm glad you're happy with your reward."

Death guides them back to the throne room, where Dracula awaits.

"Ah, excellent. You're all back.

Now then, as I explained to Elizabeth and Maeve, your next task - should you choose to accept it - is to contact a certain black market dealer in the city of Walesti. He's one of the Illithid, or what the common adventurers call a 'mind flayer'.

I urge you to take every precaution. Surface dwellers such as ourselves are often mistaken for fools in the subterranean kingdoms. Many an attempt to swindle you lot will follow, no doubt. Particularly given the all-female nature of the entourage."

"And what precautions would you recommend for such things? It seems but a simple task to show them the error of their ways once they underestimate us."

"You have much to learn of subterfuge, bloodling. Baiting you into such demonstrations could oftentimes be the entire point. You will need your heads cool, and your hearts as stone."

"Particularly considering the aspirations of our contact in Walesti."

Dracula frowns at this bit of news. "We could not tap into less troublesome sources?"

"Not without tipping our hand early, my lord. Further, he's the only contact who can be found in the city at all times."

The Father of Vampires seems to resist the urge to meet face with palm. "I suppose it's a good thing this team's of such unique make."

Silva raises an eyebrow at her Lord's facepalm.

"What do we know about this contact?"

Maeve smiled. "I assure you, I shall have no problem in keeping a heart and mind of ice. I have navigated more treachery in Court among the Fey nobility than I expect from these Illithid, though I also have learned the value in never underestimating a foe. The same goes doubly so for an ally. To that end, I may send for one of my more trusted servants to meet us during our journey."

The castle trembled for a moment while Dracula sought to contain his fury. It was obviously a case of no love lost.

"Suffice to say he's excellent at his job. But he might look down upon you all for being females, and try to have his way with you - potentially in the same breath. And that is not hyperbole."

The aura of gloom around Death seemed to expand - visibly so. She obviously had respect only for the man's competence.

"Again, I do not mean to underestimate this illithid; in fact, just the opposite. However, should he attempt anything of the sort upon me, I dare say he will get no pleasure from the act. Tentacles and other organs snap just as easily when frozen as anything else. We will take great caution, though, while attempting to extract the information we seek, lest we find ourselves in an untoward predicament."

The vampire shrugged. She had nothing to lose by trying, and she didn't really have much other occasion to put her ability at modifying clothing to use. If their contact tried anything too stupid, she had plenty of much nastier skills to put to use.
