Jeremy giggles at the deku.  "We're going to town!  Want to come?"

Barkley waved his hand in front of his helmet's visor, trying to push it up and get some light to his addled eyes to no avail.  A cold gust of wind flowed over him, and he felt one of the rats on him slump over him, leaving but the sound of faint snoring and the clang of material goods.

The fight was over while he was laying down on the job.  Shameful!  Electing to leave his visor down to hide his shame over the matter, he rocked back and forth a few times before managing to right himself back onto his feet with a heavy crunch.  Fortunately, it seems a smear of color in his eyes was finally resolving itself into an image.  Good.

"Is that it?  Ha, yes, ace that!  Good we got that bit of bizzo out of the way.  Boxer Barkley, Knight of Koopa at your service!" he announced, offering a hand to anyone who cared for it.  "And that was a nasty spat of wildlife not understanding when to give up!  Really should have turned in ages ago.  Fortunately we've managed to mop the blokes up.

You say you're headed to town?"
A town!  Finally, civilization!  In retrospect, trying to travel without a map was a bloody terrible idea.  Now was the prime opportunity to make up for lost time.  "Seeing how dangerous these woods are already you'll need someone to keep watch.  Fortunately, I'm feeling awful generous, and I'm no piker.  I'll escort you."
Mudada.

You hear some more howls from the shadows of the trees, but no more enemies cross your path, and you manage to return to Molida island's town. The local night watch, some young soldiers with armor and spears, yells more in fear than anything when they see you come out of the forest, but quickly calm down when they realize you're not wild monsters attempting a night raid.

Molida Island's inn still remembers Jeremy and Pha's bravery in helping defend the town and will let them and their friends stay for free, warming some dinner leftovers and providing clean beds with white sheets for a restful sleep. If you don't have any plans for the night, you awake in the morning to hear some kind of commotion from outside the building, in the town's square.

Curiosity getting the better of Squeaks, it went ahead and peaked outside the door of the inn to see what was going on. From a safe distance of course.

Jeremy leaves the inn as well.  "Hey, what's going on?" he asks anyone around.

Outside the inn, there seems to be some kind of stand off between several guards, forming a spear and shield wall, and a small mob of local older elves with bows and swords drawn out, with several cowering villagers standing by the sidelines watching while whispering among themselves. You notice that among the guards, there's a dozen with superior, gilded armor and shields, hold a more disciplined stance and silvery weapons, clearly having more training and experience besides their superior gear.

“Lower your weapons and board the ship orderly, citizens. Princess Griselda herself was kind enough to have her personal vessel take a detour to come help us once she heard we were in trouble since she was in the area. You should be thankful of her generosity.”-calmly says the commander of the local soldiers, cold eyes under his helmet, pointing towards the docks where you see a large, luxurious galleon is anchored, flying the Hyrulian family's pesonal banner atop its large purple and golden sails, meaning is under the direct command of a member of the royal bloodline, a well known fact across the land and seas.

“And how long do you think we will last in the open sea against that?”-asks one of the elves with an angry expression, pointing towards the ocean.

In that direction, you can see the moon, even bigger than last night, visible under the morning sun. And on the horizon, just under the massive moon, large dark clouds are filling the skies,  violent storms approaching. Sometimes small brilliant bluish shooting stars fall from the moon's “eyes”, leaving behind a trail of sparks before falling on the vast ocean far away from you.

“You must let us take refuge on the temple! It's our only hope of surviving those angry skies!”-shouts another elf.

“Don't be a fool, you'll die for sure inside that cursed place, and the kingdom cannot allow that! Besides Princess Griselda's galleon can weather any storm-”

As the guard commander  speaks a shooting star comes flying towards the island, zooming at great speed  before burning a hole in one of the galleon's sails and crashing into the docks! There's a bright flash swiftly followed by an explosion sound  and the earth itself shakes a bit. Every guard and villager stand silent for a moment, then you see the large black crater blasted on the docks made of solid rock.  Everybody starts shouting at each other violently, some starting to panic, weapons shaking in their hands, others trying to try to calm down the situation to little effect.

Gompa has a plan it seems really bad but it might just work to diffuse the situation, He jut hopes that someone else thinks of something better, or he figures out something better.  He needs to think smarter.   Is that storm natural?  Is there anything he can think of about the locals to manage the situation?  In the meantime he realizes very few people have taken notice of him leaving the inn.  He hopes anyone noticing won't care enough about one Goomba.  He sneaks as best he can close to the crater hoping to find a hiding place within 30 feet of it.  All this is debatable helping this town might work but so would helping one of the royal family he wishes he knew anything about the royals of this area.

With the impulsiveness of youth, Jeremy decides to confront this situation head-on.  He moves to stand between the soldiers and the elves and scowls at everybody.  "What are you doing?  Aren't you friends?  We were all friends when the pirates were here!"

He turns to face whichever guard was speaking.  "You're going to hurt them if they don't get on the boat?  That's awful!"

He then turns to face whichever elf was speaking.  "The temple has a big ol' mean fairy in it!  We got rid a lot of the bad monsters though, but I don't know if it's safe.  Our fairy might know..."

His voice fades to nothing at the end of the last sentence as he realizes that he's surrounded by angry adults with weapons.  Jeremy then becomes very shy and quiet, not sure what to do.

Pha did not sleep.
The entire night was spent in discovery. She had to understand everything she was becoming. She could feel so many voices and the light of knowledge that waited within the depths of her kind's memory was beginning to pierce through. The others floated on the surface, shinning like rupees in the fountain, and she could feel them call to her.
Later she began to feel the world spread in her mind when she focused on it, and the others flared like tiny stars within. With some effort, she could reach out to them from under the pool and bring herself to them in reality or pull them toward her greater consciousness and see through them as if through a window.

It was a lot to take in and, although the spiritual transition had been very demanding, even crushing at times, she felt refreshed when it ended. Her first return to her body inside living dream took a while. Even now, with the noises of the morning's disturbance begging for her attention, she stepped outside the inn still partially in a daze.

"...What is going on?"

Assuming a quick explanation, Pha would shrug.
"The temple is indeed currently too dangerous. It is not safe place for the time being. If you need to evacuate, then you should all probably go with your liege."

After all, wasn't it the entire point of royalty to determine who had command?
In the case of faeries, however, it was rarely an issue. There was this ancient agreement that they would always obey their queen so long as she never demanded anything of them. It may seem silly but with fairies simply asking was usually enough, given their willingness to help. That and the issue of the memory; when a fey would fade from the world, it wouldn't want its Queen to forget it existed. It made waking up later rather difficult.

"What are you doing?  Aren't you friends?  We were all friends when the pirates were here!"

“Yes, we were friends when we had a common enemy on the form of the pirates. But that's no longer the case.“-replies the commander of the guards in a cold, military tone.

Quote
"You're going to hurt them if they don't get on the boat?  That's awful!"

“I don't like doing this either, boy, but it's for their own good. Those elves are too stubborn to leave this place. Sometimes you need to be rough with them.”

Quote
"The temple has a big ol' mean fairy in it!  We got rid a lot of the bad monsters though, but I don't know if it's safe.  Our fairy might know..."

“The great fairy? Maybe she could put some good sense on the heads of those elves. But you better get in the boat already, boy.”

Jeremy's words don't seem to have produced much effect, if anything the guard seem to be looking at him with condescending eyes.

Assuming a quick explanation, Pha would shrug.
"The temple is indeed currently too dangerous. It is not safe place for the time being. If you need to evacuate, then you should all probably go with your liege."
Many elves glare at Pha with a mix of anger and incredulity upon hearing those words. The older one gulps down, then speaks again:

"The human girl in that boat is not our liege! She is just another ephemereal human with a more fancy title. And even if she was our rightful leader, she is mad if she thinks her or any vessel can survive this storm! But if a great  fairy of ice orders us to follow 'our' liege to her doom, you may as well freeze us to death here and spare us the suffering of perishing under the wrath of those skies.”

Meanwhile Gompa sneaks behind some crates

That made her laugh. "Ha-HA! Order? I don't order none. We beckon, we suggest, invite, inspire and sometimes even insist though we do not order. So, not your liege, you say?"
Even as a queen, there had never been any point to it.

She turned to the guards, a little vexed. There was a warm, sharp tone to her voice.
"Really, if she has no authority here, why are you all troubling them? 'Starting to sound like another invasion to me."

Gompa summons an ooze minion fiendish ape near the moon tear.  Goompa walks out from behind the crates,  "Yes yes pick up that tear we'll take it to the princess she'll want to look at it. If we get on her ship first, hurry now we'll be the first to see her.  Geeze you're so slow I need you to get up here quickly, I don't see so well and the dock could be dangerous you know.  I heard she is most fair and her boat is enchanted it will be much safer than the storm even the Great Fairy says the temple wouldn't be safe.  Perhaps Griselda is even investigating that fact when the storm started.  If the wise princess Griselda is truly on that ship she will want to see us all and to know the entirety of everything that occurs here.  I've heard she even took a old elven wise woman to teach her old magics a few years back.  I believe she has even been crowned heir so mind your manners and fix your hair"  He shouts back at the Kong as loud as he can bellow.  While hoping the elves hear him.  He hopes the other in the party will come with him its possible that Griselda banner is being used falsely and it could be very dangerous to go alone.  They can always go back to the temple after the storm or sneak off the ship as its being loaded with elves.  Charisma check was a 10.

(spoiler=actions)summons fiendish ape, has ape pick up tear, steps out from hiding, talks a lot charisma check=10 (/spoiler)

"Really, if you she has no authority here, why are you all troubling them? 'Starting to sound like another invasion to me."
The troops avert their eyes from the great fairy, but the commander looks back at Pha and replies in a calm tone:

“The great deku tree herself decreed the Hyrulian royal lineage would rule the elves in this land and waters until she decreed otherwise. However as you can see some old people still refuse to accept the truth from centuries ago.”

The older elf spats back:
“You twist the great Deku's words! She said we had to obey the human king and queen! But you're now demanding we obey some immature child that hasn't risen to the throne yet! Not even a royal decree with the proper seals.”

The human commander sounds quite offended:
“Elf, dare you suggest the great princess Griselda doesn't act on the king's own will? There was no time for getting an official order, this is an emergency!”

Then everybody pauses as they notice Gompa making his speech and the Kong carrying the glowing jewel from the skies into the ship.

“S-Stop that mushroom thing!”-shouts the commander, guards moving to intercept.

“Gompa is a servant of the great fairy.”-snickers the older elf, and the guards hesitate.

The guard commander looks confused for the first time, then smiles:
“Well, clearly even the mushroom aknowledges the safety of the boat and the wisdom of the princess.”

The older elf then straightens up and talks in a more peaceful tone:
“Now, if this Griselda is so great and wise as you speak of, then I would like to talk with her first, confirm that she's not just a spoiled child, and also check this boat's conditions to confirm it's truly safe for our people.”

“You request an audience with the princess??? Know your place! But if that's what's needed to get you in the boat, I'm sure the princess will forgive this interruption. Fine. Guards, make sure those elves don't make anything stupid while we're gone. But if anybody else wants to join this is probably your once-in-a- lifetime chance to personally talk to princess Griselda!”

The commander starts personally escorting the older elf into the boat's deck, moving towards the door, the remaining guards and elves remaining in silent expectation, none of the locals seemingly willing to accept the commander's offer.

Pha looked at everyone in turn as they spoke. If the Great Deku Tree had said so, she guessed, it was all right. She still couldn't remember why a big tree had any say on the servitude of a people of non-trees but people were free to follow a plant's wisdom over their own judgement if they wanted.

The whole royal decree thing was a bit suspicious though ruling was probably a tough business, especially when you're not there to do it yourself.

Quote from: Old elf
“Gompa is a servant of the great fairy.”
Pha looked stumped.
"Her what?"

Where did these people get such strange ideas?
The issue of meeting this princess to assess the boat's safety looked like quite a waste of time considering they had a temple to clear and there was still a massive moon of world destruction heading their way. Still, she'd follow everyone if they wanted to check on Griselda first - she couldn't deny that insuring the villagers were safe was a noble cause and could, perhaps, indeed lead to finding other ways to help prevent the disaster.

As Gompa walks along with the guards he gets close to Kong to get a feel of the moon's tear, he also tries to get Pha to fly close to take a look it might give some answers.  He pauses when he enters, whispering to his Kong, "bow."  He bows as well.  "Ummh M'lady some of us were concerned your umm sails were ripped apart by that." He motions to Kong. "We just wanted to make sure that it was safe.  Of course the entire moon seems to be falling what hope do any of us have?"  Gompa begins with the pressing concerns, he once got one of bowser's children to help only by seeming wise and friendly he'd need allies later should he want to free the goombas

Sense motive 4

If there is an evacuation we should be able to get off and investigate the temple and maybe we can get some help.   It can't take that long to talk this out?

As Pha ponders her thoughts, she hears some of the locals whisper among themselves about the elven rebellion of 391 winters ago, where several high forest lords decided to break away from the great deku tree. Soon enough they disappeared and in the last places where they were seen, young saplings with bark markings eerily similar to the faces of each missing elf were found. Nature mages who tried to communicate with the samplings seemingly heard some variation of “I'm sorry great deku tree, please forgive me!”. The rebellion soon calmed down.

Some elves now even suggest that the whole giant storm and moon meteors are actually signs that something really pissed off the Great Deku tree this time around. Other elves call such suggestions heretical and blasphemous. Or a sign of the end times.

An elf replies:
“The gompa was not part of your group when you exited the town, and then your great icy honor returned with the talking mushroom. Surely the gompa recognized your natural authority as a living embodiment of nature and pledged his services to you, is that not correct, oh great fairy?”

Pha had a bit of a trouble linking the state of being a living embodiment of nature as a valid justification for authority over things but she had to admit that the Gompa had a very... shroomy feel to him. Muchrooms were naturey enough but still very far from any aspect of nature she was linked to.
Indeed, cold was the primal state of everything. Heat, although a natural phenomenon as well, had only disturbed the way things were originally, and was (in her opinion) perfectly unecessary. The same could be said of life, actually, but heroism was so much easier to perform with life around. Reason enough to bother with the whole incarnation thing.
"Ha. I see. You must be right."
Why is that Gompa here again?

Pha looked down to Jeremy when he asked her opinion, then made a short dive downward to get their eyes on level.
"Maybe the princess has other ideas on how to save the world. Getting to all the temples is only the way I believe would work. There could be others! Since she's here, it doesn't hurt to ask."

She'd go after the Gompa to meet that heir.

She wasn't sure what to think of that princess so she listened until her intuation told her to start making waves.

Barkley was really happy to be out of that blasted forest.  He could never admit he had gotten lost, nevermind bested by rats.  It was humiliating, but even so it seemed things were going right this time.  A strange group had picked him up, and the future was looking bright.  That night, Barkley slept like a log, head and limbs curled up inside of his shell snoring away.  Perhaps he was dreaming about returning home with a princess in tow.  He just wished the princess would stop making those weird explosion sounds...

Oh, wait.  That's not the princess, that's coming from outside the window.

"Guh?..."  Barkley had been really tired and it took him a moment to get to his feet and to the window.  Outside, the docks were in a panic with Hyrulians branishing weapons and others fleeing from a tower of smoke rising from a crater.

"Blimey, I better get down there!"

Of course, Barkley was still not quite awake.  By the time he arrived, helmet on and items set back up on his person, it looks like the goomba he came into town with had recovered whatever it was that fell down, and they were in the middle of parlay.  Oops.  Pha looks like she's the focus of attention, so he'll nudge whoever happens to answer him first whispering.  "Hey, what's all this now?" he asked, trying not to lose track of Pha.  Looks like she's off for the goomba.
Mudada.
