Seriously, you should try getting all worn magic items to be enchanted tattoos.  That way, they're a part of you, and if you should get raised, you'll still have them!  The best anyone else could do with them is to animate your corpse and have an undead minion with the tattoos.

As a side note, I allowed players to use limited wish to bind magic items into body slots so they would never lose the item, but at the cost you couldn't take the item off anymore. Made it a bitch to upgrade. Only one person did it, then later had to blow the limited wishes to get them back out.

BoVD has some great "greater curses" that has suggested, plus there are some NASTY no save spells you could contingency from there too, like several have suggested.

On option, I just thought of is... Contingency + Teleport spell to a location know only by you and a friendly cleric, if your dead/undead body and/or gear is manipulated by another party member for any reason other than to directly return you to life.

And have a second trigger an explosion right after your body successfully teleports away.

Another idea is invest in a relic. If they steal it, they can't use it for much. But with True Believer, you can.

Wow, thanks for all the replies. I'm relatively competent at the mechanics of D&D, but I've limited exposure to all of the various things that people who have been around the block have been made familiar with.

Quote
Alright, this is the lowest of the low.  Why are you gaming with these people?  Are they the only options?  Or were you in on it?  Because if someone did this to one of my characters, I'd be out of there instantaneously.

There really isn't much of a unified D&D community in my area (that particular concept is limited to Magic: TG), only lots of small isolated groups that neither need nor are looking for more. I've tried multiple times to create my own, even having them put on the FLGS's calender, but after the last attempt I swore off it, even sold most of my 3.0/3.5 books.  The game is an actual store event, and so to some extent even the DM's hands are tied, he can't just tell them to get lost.

Since originally posting this, I've come to learn via my character that after the central story to the campaign has been accomplished, there will be retribution against all who participated. In other words, the DM has told me that while they will think they got away with it for now, eventually their collective asses are going to be toast. That's enough for me to keep me in, for now.

I agree with you on the sentiment, and it took me a while to make a new character; in fact, it wasn't clear that I was going to even do that. Since then, I think they've kind of realized that it transcended the realm of character-vs.-character and rose to the level of actual inter-player resentment. While they knew that I wasn't really happy with my character at the time (albeit, that was because they wouldn't let me play him as I wanted and instead wanted their ideal healer-cleric) and I wasn't allowed to change my character without him dying, and perhaps it helped justify it to them at the time, I think they've tried to make amends, so I'll play along, for now. However, I see little point in tempting anybody, and I won't deny it, I'm still a little bitter. The thought of them searching my body and finding both more and less than they expected gives me happy thoughts.

Besides that, these are (mostly) people I know from previous games and from around the shop, so I can't just shun them.

The Tattoo magic items sound like a good place to start, and while I don't have the Craft Wondrous Item feat needed for the nasty magical traps (yet), I just got Permanency, so hopefully in a few levels I'll have all I need.  Evocation, Enchantment and Necromancy are the banned schools for my Focused Specialist, but I figure I know enough fellow mages at the Arcane Order Academy to help out with that.

The possible difficulty may arise from the fact that a lot of the reasoning behind the whole issue is out-of-character and not in-character, so he doesn't have all of the, well, baggage that I have, although the situation was explained to him by the aforementioned Sanctified High Battle Cleric of Helm, so there is some in-character precedent. I suppose it would be in his character to have more faith in his own abilities than in magic items, with the tattoos being justified as a way of improving himself.

I have a very twisted idea, if you can get the homebrew allowed.

Play a Warcrafter. Have everything you wear be cursed, take the Counteract Curse feat, and just stay in a Perplexing Essence stance.

EDIT: In-game justification is that he's a cursebreaker for the church, who has taken on the responsibility of every cursed item they find, to look for ways to "redeem" them.

Maybe Incarnum? Wearing items that only exist for you, bound by spirits that only other Incarnum users can emulate.

Of course you'll need real items to boost your incarnum potential, but again, if no one has the ability to use incarnum, they will be useless to them. Also, you can get all-customized items that serve your purposes and yours only.

These two options have quite a potential, look like a real build (instead of a "you-won't-get-me-a-second-time-you-filthy-bastards" build, which is good considering your last post) and you won't be limited to high-LA races to get good abilities.

And especially for the ability scores, since you can't stack Tomes and Wishes, try Extract Gift (Fiendish Codex I). It's costly, but about the same as the Tomes and you aren't limited to +5.

Play an illumian and wear a shroud of disintegration for the DMG. Then set the command word for the shoud to your last utterance racial ability. that way you leave nothing but a plain cloth behind.

AH. Now I get it. Nobody else to play with. SO. Time to have some fun.

There's no equipment, like no equipment.

Go with a monk. Not just any monk, variant out that monk. Go defensive. Get powers that only help you. Say you are SOOOOOOOOOoooo sorry you can't help anyone. You want gear? Spend 25,000 gp on a wish to boost your stats. Nobody can take an inherent bonus. Take a vow of poverty. Worship the god of magic. Worship that god by sacrificing magic to that god.

Ask for a special ability. You can drain magic items of power and give it to your god with a successful grapple. The item gets a DC 11 saving throw if attended, no saving throw if not.

Take Improved sunder. DESTROY magic items and armor. Take Ki Strike (Adamantine) Ask for extra damage to destroy only equipment as a special manuver. Praise Vecna with every strike.

Take a level in marshal. Use the aura that helps sunder attempts.

Exotic weapon's master and  take exotic sunder for an extra 1d6 to smash things.

Feats to look at:
EAGLE CLAW ATTACK [GENERAL]
COMBAT BRUTE [TACTICAL]
FOCUSED SUNDER [PSIONIC]
FISTS OF IRON [GENERAL]
IMPROVED SUNDER [GENERAL]
GREAT SUNDER [PSIONIC]
EMPTY HAND MASTERY []

Take a vow of non-violence as your justification for destroying equipment. It screws over violent people around you, BTW

They wanna be greedy? Become the antithesis of greed. They wanna play that way? Show them why you work together and don't screw one another with your builds. Make it clear if they don't put up with you, your next PC is gonna be ten times worse. Like an intelligent rust monster.

OOH! Take a rust monster as a pet!

This would be about the best time to play a Frenzied Berserker. No regrets.

if you do get tattoos, do not get psionic tattoos; they can be transferred from one person to another. unless you set them to overload and go off all at once, or animate and attack your killers when you die.

if you do go frenzied berserker, then you could make your weapon have the special purpose of making suicidal attacks whenever combat breaks out...

3.0e Druids had a Reincarnate trick.
Grow old to oldest. Die. Reincarnate with
all your mental abilities +3, and the physical
abilities of what you Reincarnated into.

Might as well be a Druid then.
The running joke of the group could be:
The Druid summoned animals last night
and killed all of us in our sleep, and
reincarnated all of us into Bunnies ... again.
Your codpiece is a mimic.
