Finding our +respect posts
« on: April 15, 2013, 02:15:49 PM »
Is there a way to find our upvoted posts without having to go through all our posts manually?  I, and I know several others, would like to know what we're doing right.

I will upvote you for that, because I would like a way to easily track this down as well.

We've had discussions about this before, and it's been said by mods (IIRC) that there's no real way to do that.

Well. If they someday will find a way to change this kind of stuff, I suggest they should also make it so that it only shows the highest respect you have for any post, not add all the respect points together. IMO, quality over quantity.

Couldn't disagree with you more. If someone has lots of respect from lots or posts, that means lots of good things to say. One massively upvoted post just means one VERY good thing.

One post with many respects means that many people thought it's smart/funny. I'd rather be recognized for having many different people all agree with some things I say, than for saying a lot of things that only some people agree with.

I'm sure you would.
One "neat trick" is better than a lot of average tricks. "Quality over quantity" is a saying for a reason.

Not when it comes to human interaction.

Also, I'd rather have a lot of money than a small amount freshly minted. :p

In the context of this board, lots of upvotes on a single post probably means a piece of homebrew or a handbook that is well recieved and frequently viewed (Garryl has +9 on the first post of the handbook index, for example) while lots of individual upvotes is more likely to be from things like advice or worthwhile comments in discussions (or from many smaller handbooks/homebrew.)

Personally, I wouldn't rank either higher than the other, so I don't see a need to track most upvotes from a single post seperately.

Umm... I'm not sure that's an accurate analogy. :huh Here's one that fits: "I'd rather have a few 100 dollar bills than a jar of pennies."

No, because one's still a greater quantity of money. It's not 'better' money, it's just more of it.

I believe he's referring to how a $100 bill is better quality than a bunch of pennies equal to $100.

I'm suddenly reminded of an episode of Dexter's Lab where Dexter has been paying the ice cream truck guy with pennies.  And the guy ended up breaking a tooth tripping while carrying all the pannies, so when he told Dexter he couldn't use pennies Dexter was like "Do you have change for a $100?"  Then the ice cream guy freaked out and the episode ended.
