Best way to take it all with you?
« on: November 01, 2012, 01:20:26 PM »
After having my last character killed by my fellow party members in order to loot his body and take his stuff (and his body, for necromantic purposes), I've decided to make my character have a new goal: to leave nothing behind save his mutilated corpse. That is, I'm looking for ways to take it all with me.

What are the best ways to spend gold on oneself for lasting benefit, so that the next time they loot my corpse they find little save my extended middle finger? Ability increase tomes are nice, I spent most of my starting gold (hell, almost all of it) for a +3 Int tome, and I'll work on paying a high level caster for some wishes to boost it the rest of the way. Anything similar to such, that you can use to boost a character? I don't mean having a ton of potions, unless they're all rigged to blow the moment I croak, or I drink them all right away.

Currently, my character is a level 5 Focused Conjurer/2 Master Specialist/3 Mage of the Arcane Order. Maybe I'll pre-pay my dues for the next 20 years...

Vow of Poverty is also a good way to make sure no one kills you for you loot, they'll just kill you because you're an annoying exalted character forced to rollplay his alingment.
Stupid twos!!!!!!!!!!!

Alright, this is the lowest of the low.  Why are you gaming with these people?  Are they the only options?  Or were you in on it?  Because if someone did this to one of my characters, I'd be out of there instantaneously.

You can actually burst a character instead of boosting him. Just buy Craft Contingent Spell: Death Throes (or similar spell) with maximum CL possible.

Cursed Necklace of Fireballs... Craft Contingent Spell: Delayed Blast Fireball.

Don't just blow YOURSELF up, blow up ALL of them too.

a contingent forced substantiation might do the trick. there is another power of similar effect of different level which might also work.

but immolating them all along with you is likely to be more satisfying.

why not play your characters ghost come back to haunt them until you get back all your stuff? there are some nice threads here about just that thing.

This. Ask your DM about coming back as a Ghost hellbent on destroying the party. Doing it right, you'll be nigh-immune to everything they can throw at you.

and you could use the forced substantiation or other power i mentioned to pull them onto the ethereal plane and potentially strand them, or at least beat the crap out of them one at a time with little the rest of the party can do about it. sneak up behind them through stuff, manifest just long enough to target one of them, and pick them off slowly....

or you could go the possession route, and take them over one at a time... turn the party against each other. ^^

If you use the eidetic spellcaster alternative class feature (Dragon 357, p89), you don't have to worry about them selling your spellbook.

You could have some grafts installed.  Those are impossible to salvage once a creature is dead.  It requires 8 hours and a feat to salvage one while a creature is alive.

A gemstone of fortification (Draconomicon, p83) might escape notice when your corpse is looted, depending on how thorough the other players are.

Grafts could make him too viable once reanimated as undead...

Best bet would be either make your character well trapped enough so that if they do try and kill you, rocks fall everybody dies, or make a character that's mostly independent of items, like a ghost based on telekinesis.

There are magical locations, which usually have an associated gold piece cost.  Spend your money visitiing those places.

Prepay for services.  Arrange with some cleric that if you don't check in every week (or month or whatever), they are to cast a True Resurrection and bring you back.

Make arrangements with a group of adventures.  If you don't check in every week (or month or whatever, they are to check up on you, and if necessary rescue you.  Killing your killers earns them a bonus :)

Get someone to cast greater curse and word it so that anyone who kills you get hit with the following spell.

CALL FORTH THE BEAST
- HEROES OF HORROR (3.5)
(click to show/hide)
If you have questions about 3.5 D&D, you might want to look at the:
Encyclopedia Vinculum Draconis

Currently: Podcasting

naw, not thorough enough. try the Dream Beast power instead. from the planescape site wotc designated as official 3.x planescape. (or better yet, stack stuff...)

(click to show/hide)

once that nabs everyone, then mop up. note the range on that power, btw.

If you go for a full caster anyways, you might try the following things:
1. Have Death Throes (SpC) always active.
2. Have Contingency (or Chained Contingency from Tome and Blood) always active for an additional explosion.
3. Invest in all sorts of rituals, invest in things that are no objects, like Scrolls of Permanency + Buffs, a Scroll of Genesis for your own demiplane and use tons of gold for Extract Gift (Fiendish Codex). It's a good way to improve yourself and maybe your familiar permanent without having items at your body.

For fun, you could cover your body in stuff written with Explosive Runes. When they go to search you, not only do they get harmed, but they also likely destroy your body in the process.

Seriously, you should try getting all worn magic items to be enchanted tattoos.  That way, they're a part of you, and if you should get raised, you'll still have them!  The best anyone else could do with them is to animate your corpse and have an undead minion with the tattoos.
