I'm sorry but I'm afraid it's best that I go ahead and finally bow out.

I wish everyone a long and successful campaign.

Eksakto.

It really isn't that hard to make a character like that. It's harder to make a character that makes sense.

Exactly my point  :D

Well actually no. Making a character that makes sense isn't that hard. Making one of those hyper-optimized super insano characters that makes sense... THAT'D be hard.

Aye, that's my point.  ;)

Still not 100% sure but think I'll be continuing with Throisar.

And even if I wasn't, making an new character wouldn't be an option, as I have no interest in spending time making an overcomplicated uber optimized silly character.

Thank you for the understanding and support, I know I'm probably being more than a little close-minded about things but I'm glad to see others have the same opinions. I do want to be more open minded, it's part of becoming a better player after all.

I do not want to just hang up my hat and close the door on the campaign, for the most part I do really like this campaign and I shouldn't let my bit of mild depression or my frustration with play-by-posts in general to affect that.

I do want to keep going and I know I should just stop worrying about shit.

I'll try not to be overly concerned with the mechanics side of things. I've always though role-play was more important, but on the other hand mechanics is still important, in my mind about 60% Roleplay, 40% Rollplay, important for a character to have solid stats, be good at their job and effective in combat, but who the character is, their personality, etc should always come first.

Honestly, I still can't help but feel that there's no reason for Throisar to be in the campaign, as I've said before. He's a normal "practical" optimized character in a sea of highly optimized characters/NPCs, he is a waste of space to be quite frank.

It's really starting to seem that he(and the type of character I want to play) is the wrong type of character for this campaign, and for these forums.

Please convince me otherwise, because I don't see how he can really do anything that actually affects or impacts the campaign when every other character/npc is highly optimized or sure seems like that. Not to mention the player skill/experience gap. People keep saying "oh it doesn't matter, don't worry about it." But it is a problem. Right now Throisar is the Level 20 Human Sword & Board Fighter grouped with a highly optimized Level 20 Half-Gaint Magic Blooded Giant Human Spiked Chain Awesome Tripper Fighter. He's just along for the ride, and that's a big part of the loss of interest.

It makes me feel like the tag line to the campaign really should've been changed to "Bring your favorite highly optimized character and have alot of D&D experience under your belt"

I'm sorry but I'm not the type of player who enjoys building/playing characters with 5 different templates and 10 different character classes(with most of those being crazy homebrew classes) making up the build. While I believe I have decent rules knowledge and a good grasp of the rules, I'm not the type of player who enjoys sitting down with each book and going through it line by line with a fine toothed comb to find loopholes and crazy ability/spell combinations that trivialize encounters and allow a character to one-round any creature it encounters. Yes there may be some exaggeration there.

But this is mostly my fault, I'm the odd man out here, I'm the one that tried to play on an high optimization forum full of highly skilled and knowledgeable players rather than just using it as an awesome recourse. And I fear I've just wasted everyone's time. Really, I just want to play "normal" D&D characters in "normal" medieval fantasy settings(examples; Elder Scrolls, Forgotten Realms, Lord of the Rings, etc), that pretty much sums it up. Another part of the loss of interest comes from "You got your sci-fi in my medieval fantasy," Spelljammer just doesn't sound appealing to me at this point. I think it probably would've been best if I would've bowed out the moment the mind flayers from space showed up, rather than trying to give things a go and causing headaches for everyone. I don't think I'm ready for Micheal Bay D&D yet.

I guess the best way to sum up my feelings is to say, that this campaign feels too epic for me, I do not believe that I have the experience to stand on level ground with everyone else, nor do I have the desire to create what I feel(at this point in time in my D&D 'career') are needlessly complicated characters.

Part of it is that it got to where I was actually dreading my turn coming up, ever since joining the main thread in Evil is Our Game I've had the nagging fear in the back of my head of missing a certain detail that would cause a TPK. The newbie pulling a Leeroy Jenkins.

But then again, maybe Throisar is fine and I'm just not seeing it, or have no idea of his potential, but that comes back to lack of experience.

As for what to do with Throisar, I'm not sure, there's still part of me that wants to hang on and stay with the campaign, but I keep coming back with these thoughts/opinions and causing headaches for people.

In-character, the simplest solution is that he isn't resurrected in the chamber with everyone else. Tiamat takes the opportunity that the explosion provided to return Throisar to his own world to continue on with his mission there, resurrecting him back in his own lair.

But not really sure 100% what I want to do, I want my interest/motivation back damn it....   :(

I'm terribly sorry but I think it's best that I bow out, I just seem to have lost interest in this campaign(and play-by-posts overall) and can't seem to find the motivation to work on the character or the inspiration to write for him.

Thank you everyone for their dedication, especially SirP and Metro, you both are awesome GMs who have put in alot of work and always make sure to keep your players happy and that they're playing the type of characters they love.

I'm sorry it took be this long to figure out that this campaign just doesn't seem to be for me.  :(

I'm sorry but I think it's best if I bow out as well, overall I've just lost interest in play-by-posts. They're all just starting to feel like homework/chore and most of them just die.  :(

I can't seem to get my interest, motivation, or inspiration back for this once loved hobby.

Loss of motivation, inspiration and interest suck.

Overall I've lost interest in play-by-posts and have come to consider them a waste of time. And I can't seem to figure out how to fix it. I don't want to let anyone down by bowing out early, especially when one of the Play-by-posts I'm in have been Co-DMed by dedicated awesome DMs who always make sure the players are playing character they're excited about and love, and have put so much work into the campaign.

Take what time you need SirP, thank you for being an awesome DM and always working to ensure that people get the character they want and are happy with things.

Though, I hate to do this especially with all the recent work that SirP and Metro have done for Throisar, but I'm considering bowing out of the campaign, simply because my motivation for doing any Play-By-Posts is just kinda....gone.

But I'm not sure yet, but wanted to keep everyone informed.  :-\

Busy weekend, skimmed through the post.

Looks awesome so far, thank you!  :D

Right now the only thing I'd really like to change is the alternate form stuff, not sure how well the cutesy imp and winged cat fit with the character's theme. The cat is cool but honestly I was looking more for having the familiar be able to assume the form of any familiar type animal, that way it's more useful to Throisar who will be assuming many different faces, races and aliases over his lifetime.

For my requested option, the only problem I see is one of fluff, in that Bahamut's children would be the ones who would have the any-animal-alternate-form ability, rather than Tiamat's children.

As for the Imp, I do not really care about the imp so much, all I was saying is that out of the RAW improved familiars the Imp seemed to fit the best, didn't have my heart set on having an imp familiar or one that looked like an imp(though the LeeLoo(sp) is tempting), but thank you for the consideration, it is greatly appreciated!

Love giving the familiar the Imp's invisibility via the ring!

Well for ease of use as far as rules and mechanics go I have just been using all Pathfinder where appropriate, alot easier for me that way. For example, plan to use Pathfinder's Power Attack rather than 3.5, etc. This is easily explained in-character through the mis-match of different worlds and timelines.

I'll have to do some checking but so far sounds spot on and glad that it works! Thank you!  :D Always pictured Throisar's form shifting gradually rather than "Ta-dah! I'm now an elf!" So glad that's what was decided.

But for Pathfinder it might be a full round action to change forms, I be checking shortly.

As for the feat and such, it basically just gives Throisar the alternate form ability that Bronze, Gold and Silver dragons have. Found in Dragons of Eberron

Think it's awhile before Throisar is up, but would have to check again to be sure.

Or he can just assume his "natural" Elven form  :D

But thank you for the suggestions.

Ahh sorry, I missed that.

Well if changing form doesn't work, I'm out of ideas.  :-\

Edit: Or is that assumption incorrect? Sable didn't change form, only decreased in size.

Edit 2: My first thought is to change into his Elven "True form,"(Bluff's awesome  :D) my second thought is a diminutive snake.
