[D&D 3.5] Kingmaker / Act 1: STOLEN LAND
« on: August 20, 2012, 08:01:08 AM »
Act 1:Stolen Land

It has been around 2 days that you left Restov, the most southward city of whole Brevoy. It is strange.Normally all bigger roads in Brevoy itself are well traveled and you at least see another group of travelers a day.But this road is empty and not well worked. It seems that those are the small and first signs of leaving Brevoy and going into the Greenbelt.

Unwillingly you remember how you got the job.All of you were new in Restov but all heard that the Swordlords were looking for people from "outside" to do a job for them. And you lively remember your entrance in Restov.
Nowhere is the Rostlandic spirit more alive than in the Free City of Restov. The city owes its allegiance to the Brevic crown, and Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius must bend his knee before the Dragonscale Throne like any lord, but otherwise Restov
belongs to no house, making it a haven for the lost glories of the Aldori swordlords and those who look back to the old days before the coming of the Conqueror. Restov is a city of both refinement and rough-and-tumble manners, as only a colony can be in fondly recalling and imitating its motherland. The gentry of Restov consider themselves sophisticates, although a Taldan visitor would consider their ways quaint, and touched with no small amount of northern barbarism. The city is a bustling trade center along the border. Restov’s relative wealth supports no small number of idle and titled lordlings and merchants’ sons. They frequent the various Aldori and Taldan
dueling schools, as well as the alehouses, and fight each other in street corner challenges at dawn and dusk. The schools, salons, and taprooms of Restov are also hotbeds of rebellious talk against the reign of King Noleski Surtova, with young firebrands in search of a leader to rally them to the cause.

The city itself is one of the bigger cities in Brevoy. Most of the buildings are made from solid stone and even a big cathedral of Pelor is in the center of the town.

To your luck, since Restov is a free city, you don`t get eyed suspiciously like you would in smaller cities. As you wandered around the city looking for something to get money for, you eventually stumbled upon some papers that were distributed in the city. They were catching your attention in a strange way though.Either they flew directly in you face (not metaphorical speaking) due to the wind or you heard some people talking about it in a loud fashion etc. .On the papers was written the following:

Quote
The free city of Restov is looking adventurers to do the mapping, exploring and to reclaim the land stolen from Brevoy by the nature and bandits for the crown. The pay will be good. You are looking for a fresh start? This is your opportunity.
Lord Mayor Ioseph Sellemius
This seemed to be just the job you were looking for.As you did some research you got the information that anyone interested should come by the town hall tomorrow by 12 Bells(every day got 24 Bells, duh).
As you arrived there no one else but 4 others were around.Everything with the mayor went surprisingly fast.He was a very nice old fellow.Probably never had to work hard in his life but still he was very like able. You were handed a charter that said the following:

(click to show/hide)
You would arrive at Olegs Trading post when you follow the road leaving the city southwards for around 2 weeks. There further explanation would be given to you.
You were promised 1000 gold pieces for securing the land.

((Now you can post a little introduction for you character how the others encountered them and such.))

[D&D 3.5] Kingmaker / Exploring like the big guys: new mechanics!
« on: August 17, 2012, 10:03:12 AM »
Ok since the campaign is going to be exploring based there are some new mechanics to be introduced. The characters don`t have a map of the area they are supposed to explore and make safe so they have to make a map for them self. You will tell me the hex you want to enter and I will update the map.Every hex is 12 miles across and covers around 150 square miles.
To cross or explore a hex you will need time as shown in the table below.Furthermore sometimes a survival check is need to not get lost in the nature (varying DC but normally not that high).
To check what environment awaits you in adjacent hex you need either an survival check DC 15 or an knowledge geography check DC 20.

[D&D 3.5] Kingmaker / Background
« on: August 11, 2012, 10:27:00 AM »
Some Background on the homeland and the setting:

BREVOY

In the far northern reaches toward the Crown of the World, the land and its people become harsh and unforgiving. Winters are long and deadly here, forcing common folk to scratch out a sustainable existence from near-frozen soil during an all-too-short spring and summer. All the while, the lords of the land plot in their keeps and strongholds, jealously eyeing their neighbors’ domains. For centuries, the firm and forceful hand of Choral the Conqueror’s lineage has held these nobles in check, but after around 200 years, the royal house of Brevoy vanished, leaving the kingdom in turmoil. House Surtova took the contested crown, yet not all of Brevoy agreed that the new
king had the right to rule. In the decade that followed, noble ambitions burned hotter even than the hearth fires working to drive away the chill of winter, and now all of Brevoy lies on the edge of civil war.

The history of Brevoy is actually the history of two lands,Issia and Rostland, united into one by force. Issia, the northern half of the nation, has been sparselysettled for centuries. Numerous small villages cluster on the southern shore of the Lake of Mists and Veils and in the foothills of the mountains to the east. With the land too rocky and cold elsewhere for proper farming, the people of Issia survived on a combination of fishing and raiding—the most successful tribes even venturing across the great lake to sack settlements along its western ornorthern shores. Rostland, south of Lake Reykal and the Gronzi Forest,is quite different than Issia—a vast stretch of rolling hills and grasslands fed by the East Sellen River and its tributaries. Taldan colonists settled this area centuries ago under the leadership of Baron Sirian First, who became Sirian Aldori, first of the Aldori swordlords.

Brevoy is divided into two lands historically, culturally, and geographically. The vast Lake of Mists and Veils forms the northern border of Brevoy, bound in ice during the winter months, the domain of fishing vessels, merchant ships, and the pirates who prey upon them the rest of the year. The Awzera and East Sellen Rivers, along with the dark depths of the Gronzi Forest, divide the nation into north and south. The Golushkin Mountains south of Port Ice mark the western border, while the Icerime Peaks to the east form a barrier with the old lands of Iobaria beyond. The northern half of Brevoy, Issia, is a broken expanse of rugged, rocky hills stretching between the bordering mountain ranges of the Icerime Peaks and the Golushkin
Mountains, with the lone peak of Mount Veshka rising in its midst. Small, windswept scrub and spiky grasses areall that grow in the rocky soil, save
for in small, painstakingly tended plots and in some of the more fertile areas long the lakeshore (which must deal instead with storm surges, floods, and other hazards of equal concern). The mountains offer plentiful stone for quarrying and building, and occasional veins of metals and precious stones for mining, although the locals are generally poor at mining. Compared to the land north of Lake Reykal, Rostland is a gentle and fertile place of grassy plains and rolling hills. Watered by the lake and rivers, Rostland’s soil is better suited
for farming, and the mountains and forest help to blunt the worst of the storms that roll down off of the Lake of Mists and Veils. Still, Rostland is known for its chill winters and its long, slow, and muddy spring season. Rostland is relatively poor in minerals, so most construction is of wood, supplemented by local fieldstone. A few great structures, like the Ruby Fortress or the Bulwark of Gorum in New Stetven, are built with imported stone, but otherwise even the great manor houses are built mainly of wood.

Play By Post / Kingmaker
« on: August 10, 2012, 05:45:38 AM »
Since some player wanted a "normal" D&D campaign I offered to DM that stuff. It will be a variant of the Kingmaker campaign. With variant I mean that the mechanics will stay the same but the plot will change. So even if you already played it once you are free to join.
My plan is to keep it max. 5 Players.Generally those who asked me and said they wanted to play first will have priority over those coming in late.

The campaign focuses on the characters pretty much exploring "new" dangerous land.

Here some background on the "Homeland" of the characters.

(click to show/hide)

Now with the country in such a state the characters get hired to explore and map the "Greenbelt",an unsafe rural area southwards of Brevoy. This has to be done manually because divination does not seem to work for some reason. The land originally belonged to Brevoy but they were never able to fully secure it because of internal affairs and the fact that the land is inhabited by creatures of the wild and raiders.

We will start level 1 with flaws and 32. point buy.Races should be Humanoid.(In its semantic sense). All official 3.5 material and pre-asked Homebrew is allowed.

As for Houserules:I don`t have any particular but if you desperately want to play a "Monk" we will come up with something.

Optimization wise: You can have cool characters but play it fair.So mid-high level. No Incarnate Construct,Nightstick stacking or kotw shenanigans for example.
I don`t want to have to set the CR on 5 above the PC´s to have a fun fight.

Some general notes on the campaign:It is pretty much Sandbox in design. That means you can encounter (not necessarily fight) stronger encounters on early level and you have to come back later maybe.

I will keep track on the players interested in this post.

Players interested:Brujon, InnaBinder, SirP, linklord231, geniussavant, Harald,  McPoyo, littha, altpersona, Sohala
[]=I got no notice of the players.

Edit:Some more Infos on Brevoy available.

Gaming Advice / LA for Feats?
« on: July 02, 2012, 05:38:54 PM »
Jo

I would like one of my players, who is playing a low tier(rogue w/o daring outlaw) in a party consisting of almost only high tiers, to get the dark template as a little boost.
Still I dont want to give it to him for free so I want to ask how much I should ask for it in exchange.Atm I am thinking about 2 flaws for the template seems like a good bargain for him but still fair to the others.

Any suggestions?

Gaming Advice / Kingmaker in 3.5
« on: June 16, 2012, 07:30:57 AM »
Ok so we decided to run the Kingmaker campaign but no one of our group is realy into Pathfinder all that much.So my question is:Has anyone any experience for this campaign converted to 3.5?Since Pathfinder and 3.5 are rather close it should not be much of a Problem imo.

And secondly:Does anyone has any advice for the Kingmaker campaign in general?

Hi guys!

My question about polymorph is the following:

Can you polymorph into something with templates? As far as I can tell that would be possible because the only criteria are the Hit Dice. But it seems kinda absurd to morph into an 100+templates Monstrosity.

My question about Imperious Command + Dreadful Wrath is the following:

In many guides I have read so far that when you activate Dreadful Wrath that Imperious Command triggers as well but I have to disagree with this.
That is the case because Imperious Command only triggers when you use the action "Demoralize" not every time you put someone in the condition "shaken".Even though you shake someone when you demoralize that person is true that does in no way imply that this is the case the other way around.

I hope I made my point clear.Hope every one understands what I am trying to say but I am no native speaker so please bear with me :)

Introduce Yourself / Pencil`s introduction
« on: May 16, 2012, 08:13:46 AM »
Hey Guys!

My name is Pencil and I am a DnD 3.5, Shadowrun 3.0, 4.0 as well as a Call of Chtulhu and old WoD player. Aside form roleplaying I am quite decent at a board game called "Go,WeiQi or Baduk".In essence its like chess.
As one might notice I am no native speaker so please bear with me.I live at the moment in Berlin,Germany.
My main interest on this board is to ask rule questions which i can`t quite figure out myself.

Thanks for having me.
