ASSASSINATION WSA

ASSASSINATION
(click to show/hide)

Now then, player came up with something so bizzare I needed to clairify.

If I have an empty assassination dagger, can I stir my wine with it and pull out any poison in it?

Also, since alcohol is technically a poison, will it remove the alcohol, and thus get a target drunk when you stab them?
If you have questions about 3.5 D&D, you might want to look at the:

Stirring poisoned wine =/= applying poison; the 'seems to eagerly drink in poison' line has no game effect other than highlighting the following line that removes the risk of poisoning yourself when applying poison. Also unless said poison was an ingested type, it's unlikely to be in the wine. Barring an incompetent poisoner. So it'd have to be either contact/ingested or injury/ingested to be of use anyway.

Eh, I'd let it work at my table. It's the kind of cleverness that I like to encourage.

"Now that everyone's so happy, this is probably a good time to tell you I ate your parents."

I didn't say it'd never be acceptable, merely that the rules don't support it. I even gave supporting info, though I forgot that I don't know of a dual vector poison.

Do note, it’s the weapon’s enhancement that raises the DC. The ammunition’s enhancement bonus stacks with the projectile weapon’s enhancement bonus, so you could, in theory, raise the DC of your poison by +10.

Is this true?  I figure since they're both enhancement bonuses, they'd overlap rather than stack.
I'm not arguing, I'm explaining why I'm right.

They stacked in 3.0. In 3.5, they don't.

A weapon that fires projectiles/ammo wouldn't be viable for the Assassination WSA anyways. It says it's only for "ammo/melee/thrown".

Right.  Like the Editor's Note says, you'd put it on your arrows.

The fluff fits (but if you're stabbed, getting tipsy is the worst of your problems). RAW ... it's pretty clearly not supposed to do that. But it's not broken. Casters clear things of poison all the time.

So, archery didn't suck in 3.0? Good to know. Where's that "3.0 was better" thread, anyway...
