Handbooks / Master of Many Forms Forms Bible
« on: May 13, 2016, 10:57:52 AM »
Well, it finally happened. The old WotC forums are dead and buried, and among the casualties was the Master of Many Forms Bible, by Harzerkatze. At some point in the past, I had taken his list of good forms and dumped it into a spreadsheet for ease of reading. I never finished the work I had planned to do on it, but it's at least preserved, in a much more legible form. Check it out here.

The doc currently has two sheets. One gives a list of forms that open up at each level of the class, while the other is more granular to allow filtering. To use this second page, you will need to enable the data filter. Google, in their infinite wisdom, does not allow table filters to be enabled on a sheet by default, so you will need to turn it on yourself.

Discussion thread here.

Min/Max 3.x / Warshaper entry help
« on: August 01, 2014, 12:26:04 AM »
Recently, I put together a build for an arena that used Lycanthrope to qualify for the Warshaper PrC, and it got the kibosh because of rules against alignment change. I'd still really like to run the build, but the only way I can swing it is with a template that qualifies me for Warshaper with LA 2 or less. And no, Divine Minion is banned. Does such a thing exist, or am I going to be forced to scrap the build?

General D&D Discussion / 3.5 Web Enhancements down
« on: July 30, 2014, 02:58:23 PM »
So all the 3.5 Web Enhancements appear to have been taken down, both the collection page and the individual pages are missing. Anyone know if they're hosted elsewhere? There's some neat stuff in there, it'd be a shame to lose it all.

Just checked on whether or not the Swiftblade page was up as well, looks like they took down all the old 3.5 stuff. Does anyone think they'll put it back up, or should we start putting together an archive of our own?

Gaming Advice / Spending XP
« on: June 12, 2014, 11:01:40 AM »
Let's say I am playing a Wizard. I reach level six and grab Craft Wondrous Item. I immediately craft something, and spend XP. I am now below the XP threshold for sixth level. Do I lose that level? Can I spend that XP? I do not believe you lose the level, but one of the members of my group disagrees. Was this question definitively answered anywhere?

Min/Max 3.x / 3.5 - Sword of the Arcane Order Ranger
« on: May 21, 2014, 03:39:36 PM »
So! I get bored at work a lot, and enjoy working up build ideas. Latest idea I had was taking Wizard 1/Wildshaping Shooting Star Ranger into Arcane Hierophant for fun and profit. I have some sticking points, however, that I'd like help with.

Sword of the Arcane Order, the feat that makes the build tick, can only be taken if I am a Shooting Star Ranger of at least fourth level. Does this mean I have to take the second substitution level, or will I be okay if I just take generic Ranger for that level? If I ever run this, I plan on asking/begging my DM to let me use the PF Ranger, because of the non-asinine CL/Animal Companion progression, and thus the Improved Spellcasting class feature wouldn't be so important. I ask because Arcane Hierophant continues to advance my animal companion, and I'm interpreting the rules to mean I lose my familiar even without an animal companion to inherit the familiar bonuses.

I'm using the Trackless Step racial ability of the Bamboo Spirit Folk to qualify for Arcane Hierophant. Arcane Hierophant asks for it as a class ability, not a racial ability. Were you a DM, would you allow it? I can dip one level in Woodrunner to get it, but I'd prefer not to.

How should I round out the build? I've got Wizard 1/Ranger 7/Arcane Hierophant 10, what sounds good for the last two levels? Ranger certainly makes sense for advancing stuff, but I could also go Warblade for four maneuvers and a stance. Your thoughts, BG?

Min/Max 3.x / Optimizing a Telflammar Shadowlord
« on: May 07, 2014, 06:36:07 PM »
Hey gang, been a while. I'm starting a new 3.5 campaign with my group, and I'm trying to make a Rogue/Swordsage/Telflammar Shadowlord build based on doing Nightcrawler stuff, and I'm looking to fine-tune the build. Here's what I have so far:

Human Rogue 1/Drow Fighter Skilled City Dweller Sneak Attack Thug 1/Swordsage 3/Guild Thief 2/Telflammar Shadowlord 3

Feats are Dodge, Spring Attack, Shadow Blade, Adaptive Style, and TWF, with Blind-Fight as a bonus feat from Guild Thief. I took Adaptive Style over Craven because it gives me a bit more longevity in combat, and this is a war campaign. What I would like help with is:

Finding some PrC that offers full BAB and Sneak Attack progression. I can progress Thug, but I'd like to not deal with multiclassing XP penalties. I don't think my group will care, but I'd like to avoid it all the same.
Shuffling my opener a bit. I really want to get Shadow Pounce the first level I can (11), but I don't like how suboptimal my Swordsage levels are (starting the class at IL 2, not being able to pick up Assassin's Stance until either 13th level or by paying money). Can any of you think of any way to tweak that around a bit?
Finding some armor with a higher max dex than Cloth. I'm (eventually) going to wind up with 10-12 dex mod, I'd like to switch to better armor if possible.

Min/Max 3.x / [3.5] Quick Warmind/Slayer build
« on: March 20, 2012, 02:21:37 PM »
Started lamenting that Warmind didn't progress an existing manifester class and instead had its own manifesting levels, and how that discourages psionic classes from PrCing into it, but that gave me an idea (that surely nobody has ever had before because I am clearly a genius). What if you take Warmind, then Slayer, for a 14th-level manifester Warmind? It probably works out pretty well, here's the stub I came up with:

Human Paragon 2/Fighter 2/Lion Totem Barbarian 1/Warmind 15-x/Slayer x

X is probably nine, because while it loses the greater Warmind chains, it gives Cerebral Immunity, which is overall a much stronger ability than two extra AC, STR and CON for a minute/day 3/day.

Also, Warmind's base PP extrapolates to 132 PP, which is not shabby at all.

For feats, the build requires Track and Wild Talent. After that, I have no idea what to take. I was initially thinking of basic leap attack/shock trooper/combat brute charge fighter stuff, but then I remembered you can take psionic feats by virtue of Wild Talent, so yeah. I was thinking power attack, psycrystal affinity, psionic weapon/deep impact, and after that I'm at a bit of a loss.

Suggestions?

Min/Max 3.x / [3.5] Help optimizing a monk/ur-priest/sacred fist build
« on: February 21, 2012, 02:24:55 PM »
I had an idea for a monk/ur-priest/divine fist build, and I have a decent build sketched out. The core of the build is cleric 1 / monk 4 / ur-priest 1 / divine fist 10, but after that I have some options. I need to take two more monk levels if I want greater flurry (with Monk's Belt), I can spend some feats to get into Shiba Protector for wis > attack and damage, and/or I can keep taking ur-priest for more caster levels and spells/day.

This is the build so far, I'd like your opinions on where better I could put some of the extras.

(After suggestions)

Code: [Select]
human paragon 3 / monk 2 / ur-priest 2 / shiba protector 1 / sacred fist 10 / ur-priest 2

1 Human Paragon 1 feat: combat casting, spell focus (evil)
adaptive learning: spellcraft
if flaws: some flaw, able learner
2 Human Paragon 2 bonus feat: intuitive strike
3 Human Paragon 3 feat: awareness
+2 to wis
4 Human Paragon 3, monk 1 bonus feat: imp unarmed strike, stunning fist
5 Human Paragon 3, monk 2 bonus feat: combat reflexes
6 Human Paragon 3, monk 2, ur-priest 1 feat: combat expertise
7 Human Paragon 3, monk 2, ur-priest 2
8 Human Paragon 3, monk 2, ur-priest 2, shiba protector 1
9 Human Paragon 3, monk 2, ur-priest 2, shiba protector 1, sacred fist 1 feat: practiced spellcaster
