Can I just haunt shift some undead into the vault and take the whole thing?

Being magical affords items some protections over mundane. Animated and haunt shifted items are probably less likely to be damaged due to being able to move on their own.

People are still arguing in my other thread that the fact that you gain some racial features and lose some racial features means that you are changing race...

I don't even know what to say to that... you are keeping far more original racial features than you are gaining new ones... and far better ones at that.

It's like the dnd equivalent of the ship of theseus.

Thanks, I was honestly not aware that existed.

I asked because everywhere else I asked everyone seemed to think it was the other way around. The last thread went on for several pages with people telling me to ask my DM, or DUH of course your race changes... without any raw to support it.

It seems the rules of the game article answers this question by example... listing both the before and after alter self stat block for their sorcerer.

If you have a feat or PrC that requires your race, does alter self change your race and make you ineligible?

You are effectively disguised as an average member of the new form’s race.
This line seems to indicate that your race does not change. In fact, it never mentions changing your race.

I use a generic form of owod that is sort of homebrewed. I made custom character sheets and all. Basically I wanted to play a game like owod mage or vampire but with normalish humans that might have some special abilities.

Basically I stripped out most of the setting specific stuff and used the rules for actions and things. I let my players spend the freebie points I gave them to buy 1 ability from any owod book (subject to approval naturally) that they could afford.

I say, if you like owod, just use owod and pull out the things you don't want. Slap in things you need. owod especially is good for this kind of thing because it's so light weight. You don't have to worry about things like balancing encounters and CRs and things like that. Just a relatively simple ruleset for actions at it's base, especially if you already know it.
