[Skill] Knowledge (Ravenloft)
« on: October 23, 2018, 05:38:12 PM »
Knowledge (Ravenloft) (int, trained only)
This skill represents an understanding of the planar fabric of the Realm of Dread, including the Mists, the nature of domains, closed borders, darklords, and so on. This is an extremely rare skill, known only by a handful of arcane scholars, most of whom are darklords.
This is generally a cross-class skill. Classes, prestige classes and other features that grant you all Knowledge skills individually as class skills (such as Knowledge domain) do not automatically add Knowledge (Ravenloft). The feature has to explicitely spell out that it includes Knowledge (Ravenloft).

Existing base classes that explicitely gain Knowledge (Ravenloft) as a class skill:
Dragon Shaman, Prophet

One thing that this brings to mind is, what base classes or existing WotC material is appropriate for Ravenloft? Do you have a list in mind?

I have some re-writes and re-fluffings of existing base classes from previous campaigns, although I would need to translate them from German first, and probably also refine and remove wrinkles in many cases.

Dragon Shamans have been re-written as Fiend Cultists - cultists who have been taught by evil outsiders how to perform a humanoid adaption of their satanic Power Rituals to draw rudimentary magical power from a specific domain. Accordingly, they aren't categorized/specialized by dragon color, but by the domain they draw their power from.
As an example:
Barovia:
Class Skills: Hide, Knowledge (religion), Survival
Breath Weapon: Cone of magical Slashing (fluffed as bat swarm)
Fiendish Adaption: Necromantic Dilettante (as Arcane Dilettante of a Factotum of the same class level, but drawing off the Dread Necromancer list instead of the Sorc/Wiz list and using CHA as spellcasting ability in place of INT)

Prophets are an NPC class from the Ravenloft DMG, basically CHA-based spontaneous adepts with a heavy divination emphasis and a personal detriment like blindness, similar to the PF Oracle curses sans all the beneficial stuff. (I have just outright replaced it with the PF Oracle curses plus all the good stuff - the class still sucks, but at least it gets access to a few interesting and unique features at later levels.)
