Amnon looks very skeptical.  "You have shown yourself to be trustworthy, but that surely looks like one of the damned."

Wiping his sword with a rag scrap from one of the fallen Kobold's clothing, Gerand interjects, "This is all very strange, and interesting. But given the nature of these beings, and the mysteriousness of the chest for which we have a uniquely silver key, might we get to examining said chest? I'd like to be sure it doesn't contain something beneficial to their summoning plans, and detrimental to our lives. I'd like to get to hunting the spy they had in Winterhaven and closing this gate as soon as possible..."

Cal nods at the warrior's words, "I agree, we're wasting time, we need to hunt down the cult's remaining confederates before they do any more harm."

"Before leaving this place, let's check these kobolds and see if they have anything that may help understand this situation more..."

While checking the bodies of the kobolds and evaluating their possessions, Golkonda speaks with Karik in the language they share.

"Do you know anything about what happened here, or what these little bastards want, aside from opening a gate to summon demons?"

"Oh, Master, I know little more than you and your acquaintances, but I do know that the kobolds are stupid. They pose little more harm than the raids they were perpetuating upon travelers. However, these kobolds have been taught to worship Orcus as though he were an aspect of Khyber, the Dragon Below. Who taught them this, I do not know, as it is a base lie. It is a good bet, though, that this Kalarel is interested in more than dried fishes and trinkets."

Gerand takes the silver key, and moves over to the chest. Keeling down, he looks it over, being careful not to touch the thing. "Would there be anyone with skills I do not posess who might be able to shed some light on the subject of whether or not this chest is trapped or magical?"

The chest is neither trapped nor magical, though there is a faint magical resonance coming from within the chest.

"The chest does not have traps and isn't enchanted... but what's inside carries some kind of magic... Open it and show us what's in, Lord Mythos..."

Amnon waits, wondering what is inside of the chest.

Gerand moves slowly, without hesitation, but being particularly careful. He slides the key in as smoothly as possible before twisting gently. As soon as he hears the lock click out of place, he moves aside to allow for the others to see, and opens the chest quickly.

Cal allows the glow in his hand to burn brighter as Gerand cracks the chest open, wary for any trap or mischief left behind by the kobolds.

The lock clicks as expected, and inside... safety. Rather, there is no danger, and certainly no trap awaiting the eager adventurers. Within glitters 525 gold pieces, as well as a silvery bracelet, a pair of blood-stained steel bracers, a pair of rune-stitched leather bracers, a pair of patched-cloth gloves, and a small golden gemstone. There is also a crudely-written note in Common reading, "Pleze axept these gifts as tribbyute, Lord Kalarel! May they surv yur mitey goles!"

Amnon thinks quickly.  "As there are enough items for everyone to take one, that is the just way to distribute these.  Dol Arrah is my goddess so this choice is obvious."

Gerand eyes the gauntlets, attempting to hide his pleasure in finding them. "I don't suppose anyone would be more suited?" He picks them up, studying them. His own leather chord-bound gloves and bracers shabby by comparison.

"I'm taking these..." Golkonda picks a pair of the blood stained bracers, and studies them. "... but these stains might attract weird looks..."

Cal looks over the chest, "Then I shall take up the dragonshard, to bring light into this dark place, we must hurry if we're going to intercept the plans that were laid in motion here though."

Golkonda wears the bracers and makes some adjustments.

"Very well. Let's get moving out of this place..."
