Whole House Trap? (D&D 3.5)

D&D 3.5
Party 4th Level

Looking for a setup where the heroes will get delayed or otherwise stalled by being trapped inside a house. They are tracking down a traitor and the first stop is naturally his house. He is not home but they will investigate. I want to them to be held up not by monsters but by traps. Thinking that it would be cool for the entire house to be a trap. Suggestions?

Thanks,
Necro

Guards and Wards is stupidly good. Seriously, this spell does it all. Fog? Arcane Locks? Unmappable terrain? Hidden doors? spooky magic mouths and dancing lights?

Even better: Dispel magic only hits ONE instance of the effects, so they can't just dispel it.

Alternatively, the house is a very large mimic. Omnomnom.

"The door is stuck. The windows are stuck. In fact, upon further examination the doors and windows now seem to be just a textured wall...also, it's leaking acid"

Excellent suggestions. Many thanks. Who knew Guards and Wards was so robust, except Trump ... maybe.

[thread necro]
probably not relevant anymore; but it's good to have a book of ideas in your hip pocket:
there was an adventure printed sometime somewhere (probably an old Dungeon mag) that involved a mansion where each door within acted as a different card from the Deck of Many Things, opening the door activated it.
I'm super hazy on the details; but I remember adapting that idea for an adventure one time for a high-ish level party.  I seem to remember that I put (un)hallow on the site, with a dimension lock rider.
it was fun.

Train tickets to a town in the complete opposite direction.
