Clubs and other extracurricular activities
Whitethorn Student Council
Leadership Appointed. Consists of the chairman, vice chairman and 6 other positions, each post also has the choice of an assistant.
Membership 20-30 underlings, fluctuating on the whim of the leadership.
Club duties Members are expected to assist the council leadership in handling school administrative matters. These include club resource allocations(funds, facilities access), dormitory management, student disciplinary matters, school event planning, etc. There is a steady stream of associated paperwork, as well as keeping the club supplies stocked.
Club privileges While the council leadership have all the actual powers, most members have access to otherwise confidential records due to council leaders preferring to leave all the actual work to their underlings. In addition, being able to bump requests and issues up or down the queue for processing is a much cultivated skill. Club members thus attain a certain degree of leniency and advanced information in exchange for having to obey the whims of their fickle overlords.
Time demands Every alternate Wednesday afternoon has a student council meeting, as well as miscellaneous council work that takes up several hours weekly. Most members use some of their break times to deal with these.
Facilities The student council room, it's adjoining kitchenette, lounge(leaders only) and the various records offices.
Recreational Swim Club
Leadership Elected. Currently led by Jennifer Mason, largely elected for her ability to fund additional club activities like renting space on Beachfront chalets, arrange barbeques and more. Extremely friendly, and rich.
Membership ~60 members.
Club duties Mandatory physical training, centering on water sports and diving, though inclusive of such apparently unrelated matters as free climbing. Members need to pay club dues however, which is somewhat unusual.
Club privileges The club president regularly arranges club outings to Bootlegger's view to use one of the more sheltered coves, or more rarely, use of Beachfront resort beaches. The club owns a small boat, diving equipment, and more oddly, spelunking gear.
Time Demands The RSC meets up every Saturday morning, though the location varies. Every month or so the club has a more social event that takes up most of the day after the training. Attendance is not compulsory, though few club members ever absent themselves without reason.
Facilities Surprisingly few in school, given the club's size. The RSC only has access to the school's pool in the evenings on weekdays, and only every other Saturday morning. Rumor is that the student council treasurer has a personal vendetta with the club, which is somewhat stymied by it's large membership and apparent unconcern for lack of access to school funds.
