2000/1/06-07 Paper Trail
« on: October 11, 2014, 01:05:20 AM »
Dawn has arrived and the sun sucks. Dreams of swimming in a giant vat full of money suddenly catch fire as the horrid Daystar intervenes in your beauty sleep. Kiley is now feeling both sore and a full body itch, while Sam's injuries have decided a drumroll was the way to start the day.

It's a school day and obviously nothing is going to happen. At all.

"Bweeeehh." Kiley grabs her phone off the bedside table as it wakes her up and pulls the covers over her head. Maybe if she lies really still, the world will forget she exists. It's not like most students don't already ignore her, usually. Blearily, she messes around with her usual morning news check and sending random half-asleep thoughts to her handful of friends as she tries to decide whether to just skip classes today.

If vampires are immortal, why don't you ever see stories of a vamp just sitting on the couch watching TV for all of eternity? like a really shitty, lazy vampire

After the second utterly boring article , Kiley simply can't muster the will to keep looking. Fortunately, salvation arrives after a minute, in the form of a message from Jennifer, 'drunk so early lol'

On the bright side, the news already being terminally boring makes the decision to just skip school today easy. It's not like she did a lot of homework. She buries her face in her pillow until the reply comes.
nah just me. and sleepy.

Still woozy and disoriented from the transition from dreams of a golden money palace to pain everywhere and the reminder that Leaf Ronin still exists, Sam fumbles for the phone with his burnt hand and taps out a reply.

because that would be a boring movie, I guess. most people want their vampires to turn into bats or whatever.

That settled, he flicks through the news before rolling out of bed to shower.

Texting about inane shit definitely beats going to school in Kiley's state. She giggles a little.
It could be a sitcom. cant be worse than ally mcbeal.

Kiley

'so i heard u were in nasty toilet yesterday'
====================================
Sam

Sam's search finds nothing in the 'real' news sections, but the gossiping parts of the internet, were active. Locally, he could see some interesting fallout as some casanova had been outed as going out with a dozen girls at once, capped off by a bunch of angry boyfriends who were not very pleased about being two timed. Bets are on whether 'Mr Carloman' will dare to go to school or flee to Mexico.

Citywide. Sam felt a sudden disturbance in the force as he discovered a web novel that was released only last night, and had apparently started going viral. Given the lurid sketch of Horizon and Scattershot at the top of the page, he did not feel any inclination to look further.

Do these people even sleep?!

Kiley groans a little. Of course Jenny would know. On the bright side, she can think of worse persons to bring it up to her first thing in the morning.
meh. dropped something right next to it and had to get it, guess those two girls saw me and started giggling.

Whoever had the room next door might have, if they'd been listening, heard the sound of rhythmic thudding as Sam gently banged his head against the wall during the shower. The only good thing there was that Kiley didn't know, or she'd have led with it.

After toweling off and texting a response - is anything worse than ally mcbeal? - Sam considers the possibility of skipping class to deal with the paper tiger. Or, possibly, cancelling out Scattershot's sister's personal gravity and pushing her out over the ocean. He fires off a follow-up message. you going to class today?

Blissfully oblivious, Kiley turns around in bed and prays juggling two SMS conversations will be the most taxing thing she'll have to do today.
plan is stay in bed and hope the sun goes out if I want it hard enough.

guess at least one of us should go to morning class then. probably skipping out later to go hang around though. Sighing heavily and wondering how much Wire would charge to erase the story from the internet, Sam pulls his stuff together and heads off to classes. stares at the phone for a few seconds before sending another text to the number that 'Timmy's' sister used the other day.

Does the Trident know you're this evil? I think doing this can get you labeled a Fiend.

The reply is immediate, 'Did Timmy spend the night with you?'

Well now. That carries implications that, for once, aren't innuendos. Sam sets his schoolbag down without taking his eyes from the screen, tapping out a reply. He doesn't, and no, he didn't. Did he not come back last night?

Joy, joy, and more joy. Sam weighs the benefits of having Annis eat Scattershot to the detriments of the kid's sister - who has to be a Thinker to have written that story - harassing him forever. Looks like both powers and annoyance run in the family. Pity Scattershot didn't inherit any brains. I think he went haring off toward the Bog after some of Franco's men. You think that sounds about right? Depending on how good she is, she might be able to pick up on the I-know and you-know-that-I-know from that. Or not. Thinkers: almost as bad as Tinkers.

Sam
'That idiot.' There is no further response, but a tentative check has revealed the original of the story to be gone. The copies however, are still making the rounds.

Kiley
The phone beeps again, 'disappoint, expected something more fun. want see something good?'
A link follows.

Fun like what, is the first thought to hop into Kiley's mind. She can't really think of anything done inside that toilet as being fun. With a raised eyebrow, she follows the provided link.

Maybe this is a good time to start underage drinking. Sam regretfully leaves to go to morning classes, already bracing for a fresh wave of humiliation from anyone who might have seen the web novel.
