Gwaedwen just puts up her sweetest smile and her most adorable little girl look, as much as she hates it. "Travel is dangerous in these parts, as you must be well aware. You wouldn't want a maiden like me come to harm because I foolishly go out alone, would you?"

"Ma'am, you must have a different definition of alone than I do". The guard made a very diffident gesture towards Red.

"Yes, my bodyguard companion is right on that account. Not that an innocent maiden as me would do know much about that. Now, is our money good enough to pay for lodging and other necessary expenses as we conduct our vermin extermination? Else I think there would be other places that would be more welcoming of our business if you plan to be any trouble."

The guard shook his head, and gave them a rather poorly skilled bow as he welcomed them to town. He knew they were going to be trouble, but just not how. And that he would be best served by forgetting that he had been on duty when they arrived.

Gwaedwen walks into the village with her cow, not especially hurrying or looking around in order to not draw suspicion. As soon as she is out of sight of the militia man, she looks for a quiet place out of sight that would be suitable for killing the beast and hiding the carcass. She finds a small grove that should shield her from prying eyes for a few minutes and enters it. A few minutes later she leaves it, alone, with horns on her head, a curvier and plumper figure, and much less cute and unthreatening than she was when she was sweet-talking the guard.

Ebony is going to secure lodgings. In the inn, she will inquire with the innkeeper if there is anyplace in town where one would worship Lledrith.

Hmm.

The response is almost spitten upon Ebony. "No one here would worship that damn fool of a god. Too much greed, too much misery for the common folk. We only truck with them as will help us!"

The price he charges for room and board is suspiciously high.

Ebony will report back to the others what she has learned, and not learned.
Hmm.

Madoc considers the recent encounters quietly.

"These people do not seem to understand things very readily. That may be for the best, even if it does not help our search. I think the inn keeper mistook your question for personal preferences. I do not think I have the skill in negotiation to smooth things over, though. Should we seek another inn?"

He looks around, scouring the surroundings for signs of greater welcome.

The innkeep of the new locale serves food grudgingly, openly hostile to the giant Llethu in her tin suit, and clearly distrusting of such a motley collection of individuals. But as long as the money is good, his prejudices stay enough in check that there's little that's done openly.

The population of the inn around them seems mostly to be the kind of local craftsmen who might have one too many of an evening and get into an argument, but otherwise are somewhat unremarkable. Even the tables pushed against the walls and in the corners are filled with the same sort of leather jerkin clad craftsmen.

After some frustrating rounds of asking questions with the locals, Gwaedwen sits down with the group.

"I might have a lead, although it is a long shot. Llosgi used to be a nexus point of gateways, although all widely known gates have been destroyed in the conflicts of the various arcanist groups, including a very spectacular series of explosions initiated by the losing side in a last-ditch effort to salt the earth. Maybe those arcanists try to repair some of the less damaged gates, or have found some that still work and use them for their base of operations."

"Well, better to kill time than to kill nothing at all." Ebony says. "We can leave once we're restocked."
Hmm.

The Yn Gyntaf doesn't like this place. Anything more than a small village made him feel uncomfortable, and this town was no different. He wanted to do his God's will and be gone.

"Yes, let us explore this lead. No thread is too small to follow when nothing distinct has come to light."

Ultimately, everyone in this town will die in Drancedigaeth's name. The arcanists they were here for, however, would have to go first.

Red drums the fingers of one arm against the other. Using that as a basis would give them an idea where to find the relevant arcanists... it would just help to know where the possible sites are first. Presumably any that have a larger path to them are more likely candidates.

The Llethu rises and starts asking the nearby locals about where ruins could be found nearby. Someone was bound to know; already shaped stone was always useful.

Most of the responses were chuckles and in some cases open laughter, although one and all they pointed towards the eastern end of town.

Once there, the party saw why there had been derision. Several hectares of land were little more than broken stone, the ground still scorched and barren, damaged beyond all measure by the arcane battle that had taken place here.

Those areas nearest to the town were all but picked over, little more than a thin layer of rubble, but further into the field some buildings still stood, their ashen forms skeletal and tumbledown against a clouded sky.

Madoc's brow remains settled in its constant, furrowed state. The townsfolk had already resigned themselves to the reality of their circumstances. They would not be helpful, at large.

He stalks into the ruined land, looking for clues, and investigates the remaining buildings for anything of note.

"Might be something to go off of... but I am not optimistic."

Gwaedwen trots behind, periodically stopping to scan for the signs of hidden life. The whole search has been frustrating so far, and finding anything would be good for her, either to squeeze information out of it or just to have a little entertainment drinking its blood and soul out here where no one will hear its delightful screams.
