NOAA map link 1 post/page back updated.

WaPo's latest : https://img.washingtonpost.com/wp-apps/imrs.php?src=https://img.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang/files/2017/08/eclipse-forecast-08142017.png&w=1484
... they say Oregon is medium confidence now = good deal, predictable amount of fog and smoke, then clearest weather anywhere.

EDIT---
AAS says Welding Glass of #14 and #13 are OK , #12 might be too bright for some.  I had a link lost it.  Go to AAS, search their search with "welding" and it pops up first.
--- hit that right when they put less of it on a newer release page.  Previous link works it just loads slow.

The Cloud forecaster 1 post/page back is actually pretty good ... just very wonky and slow navigating + loading.

Invest 91-L has a 60% chance of developing in the next 5 days, worth a look see on the weekend.

WaPo update https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/capital-weather-gang/wp/2017/08/16/total-solar-eclipse-weather-forecast-as-of-aug-16/?utm_term=.c1f1fc704893

While the confidence is low, the general weather pattern is quite normal average, so pop-up thunderstorms for the eastern half, 1 hour or so with < 1/8th " of rain.  Better than coin flip or vegas odds now.

Found a decent cloud map, scroll down, navigating is quirky, but do-able.

... lots of other details there too.

EDIt --- especially which day, is weird.

:lol :-\ sry Altp ... umm ... but didn't you say it your son who didn't wanna go to Morehead?  And what 18 year old doesn't want Morehead on their resumé ?!

8 to 14 day forecast now available, with updating.
http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/predictions/814day/
Looks kinda slightly iffy.  Might not reach Vegas odds until 9 days out.

Chance at a tropical wave in the Bahamas on the 12th.
If it gets it's act together, it'll clear out a nice path for afterwards.
This part looks good.

ya, he didnt but atm he'd probably jump at the chance...

Well ... that was incredible.  And I was lucky, very lucky.
I'm trying to think through what to say about it, because
there's so little experiential to base what I saw.  The claim
is true, that cameras can only do partial justice to your eyes.
I'll post later what I think I saw.

The behind the scenes stuff continues to annoy, but I have to blow
my former cab driver horn.  There were EPIC multi-day traffic jams
leaving the KY areas of the eclipse.  I had a better plan.

I took a 4 digit township road out, to a 3 digit county road,
to a 2 digit state road, to a Thorp sized village, and got into "line".
I took a ferry which took only 6 minutes to river cross back to me.
The line was me, a motorcycle and a convertible.

3/4s through, same sunspots on the edge (idk how to rotate the file above 90* so it looks right)
{ edit --- I'm suspicious he did it this way to make sure he didn't have to refocus his telescope right in the middle of the fireworks }

Bingo.
This one is more complicated.  He used a very specific filter to get the scarlet red Prominence, located near 2 o'clock.  I remember that as being much larger maybe 20* to 30* angled around that spot.  Notice no Earth Glow on the face of the Moon.  Corona is thinned out, blue sky (!) is black.

We got stuck in that horrific traffic on I-40. It took 9 hours to drive what would usually be 4.5... but it was worth it. :D
