The docking hatch opens into another room, the D-D room, which you note is also clear. There is a communications panel on the wall of the D-D room, which seems to be malfunctioning. The screen flickers at random intervals, while pushing the buttons elicits no results.

"Got it. I'll keep monitoring your comm channel," Benedict answers. He's careful to click off the microphone before scowling faintly, drumming his fingers on the console. He swivels around in the chair a bit before turning back to the console and rattling a few keys aimlessly.

"Ironfist, anything you can tell from the panel? Can you fix it?" In either event, her crew would know a little bit more about what to expect.

Aside from business purposes, River really had no interest in machines. She stood by quietly, focusing her mind so that she could draw chi from her surroundings or from herself at any moment.
Hmm.

Benedict's eyes glass over, and he stares up at the cockpit's ceiling. He makes a valiant effort to relax, even waving one hand about in time to the music. Gradually his conducting slows, his hand drops, and he just sits there for a moment or two.

"...I wonder." He sits up suddenly, eyes alight, and begins punching keys with more purpose. The Jamais-Nu's computer systems were working; or at least, part of them were. It was entirely possible that someone might be able to find a loophole in their security protocols, and that this someone might then be able to use it to stave off death brought on by soul-crushing ennui. If he had to listen to Die Tote Taube: Sonata No. 3 in G one more time, either it was going out the airlock or he was.

"I don't know, let's find out."  Ironfist attempts to determine what is wrong with the panel and see if it is fixable.

On-board the Eclipse, Benedict pounds furiously on the computer's keys as the sweat beads upon his brow. Finally, he hits the enter key and his screen refreshes... After several minutes' work, he has managed to get into the Jamais-Nu's computer systems, specifically one of the crew members' personal computers. He has found the crewman's personal collection of digital music records.
The playlist begins auto-playing through the Eclipse's sound system.

Meanwhile, Ironfist begins tinkering on the control panel in the D-D room.

Ironfist takes out his portable computing assistant and plugs it into the panel. He begins running diagnostics, but nothing seems to be mechanically wrong with the panel. It should work just fine, so the problem likely rests elsewhere in the ship, where the real computing hardware is stored.

The ex-lawyer's lips purse as the new music pours out of the ship speakers. After a few seconds of consideration, he shrugs and saves a copy of the music to his own files, then continues banging away at the keys, hoping to use this as an entry point to access the crewman's personal journals, work records, or anything else that might give him an idea of what happened on the ship.

"The panel's fine, the ship's systems just seem to be at least partially corrupted."  Ironfist says.  "I doubt I can do anything from here."

River nods. "We'll probably have to go deeper into the ship."
Hmm.

Noa looked on as Ironfist worked with the terminal. It seemed the problem was deeper than she had hoped.

"It looks like we should get going," she said, making sure to press the key on her vest to transmit her voice to Benedict, back aboard Eclipse.

"They don't make it easy, do they?" Her earlier grin was fading. She sighed and breathed deeply. "Let's move. One beat for doors, or something that looks important. Two beats for company. Use the floor, your shoulder, I don't care, just don't be too loud about it." She rapped her shoulder with a fist to demonstrate, and then she was off.

Noa enters onto a steel catwalk above the main cargo bay. Beyond the railing, down about two stories, are dozens of large, metal crates, many stacked on top of one another. Not far from the hatch you exit from on the catwalk is a stairway leading down to the cargo bay. Further past this stairway, the walkway turns, continuing past one door and then another.

Noa rushed down the catwalk toward the turn, sliding to a halt, and angling her hand mirror to get a view of the path forward. It would probably be important to check the cargo soon, but first she wanted to know if the coast was clear. She wasn't going to let herself be caught on the low ground.

The catwalk ends shortly after the second doorway. Each door has a small window about 1/4 of the way down from the top of the door, allowing one to see the other side from each respective room. The mirror doesn't reveal anything particularly threatening.

Noa looks through the first window using the mirror.

River inspects the second door.  She looked upward at the window, a bit disappointed that it was too tall for her to look through. Instead, she listens at the door for several seconds. If nothing is heard, she will check if the door is locked.
