Hey all,

I'm in a RL Savage Worlds campaign starting up in a couple days, and I've never played SW before, so I could use some pointers.  The setting is "modern crime/present-day cyberpunk".  I don't know much else, except that equipment has been houseruled to be more freeform.

My questions are:
~What kinds of archetypes work well?
~Are there edges/hindrances I should stay away from?
~When (in buying traits and skills) do you hit diminishing returns?
~How important is buying Edges vs more traits & skills with the bonus points you get from Hindrances?

My current concept is a hardboiled retired detective who's coming back to finish something he started.  I'd be starting with high Smarts, Spirit, & Vigor to represent the guy who's had a lot of experience and just won't fall down, even though his body can't keep up anymore.  Taking the Elderly (major), Cautious (minor), and Enemy (minor) hindrances, and the Connections Edge (maybe more, but I don't know yet).
