cancer sucks... two cancers doubly suck...
i have an irl buddy who's about 40, on his second cancer... started in colon, is no whole body... got the official word to wrap up any long term projects. has 2 kids, one is mid teen...
they found it by accident, still in the "wait-and-watch" stage. they don't want to do anything invasive if they don't have to, being as any kind of kidney procedure is really dangerous. The bladder thing is still unconfirmed - could be multiple things (i guess)
The upside is that because it's early enough that if/when they do operate, there's seems to be a 80+% 5yr-survival rate (assuming I survive the surgery itself)
The other upside is that I have no kids.
(well, except for that whole mid-life-crisis thing .... oh well)i do all my medical via va on purpose...
Good God, why? Don't know about your VA, but this one here was ground-zero for all that patient neglect controversy a little while back. The only reason I know about the other half-dozen health concerns I have is because I ordered a copy of my records -- they told me that I was 100% fine other than the tumor (which is wrong, proven by my blood work, scans, and symptoms).
I'm in a major city that has a half-dozen highly reputable cancer treatment centers (one of which is
Mayo f'n Clinic), and I'm stuck with guys looking for their gov't pension.
*sigh* but I digress (sorry)
in 2013 mom got cancer diagnosis, i think she new maybe a year before that. she made it to 4th of july 15. lots of fun stories...
Sorry to hear that. Hopefully you made the most of it.
This was all of a sudden, a fatal asthma attack. Hadn't talked to her in over 3 years -- not because she was a bad person, but because we just couldn't figure out how to get along. The part I try not to dwell on is that I felt that I was just on the cusp of figuring out how to solve that Gordian Knot, and was trying to save up money to fly out around Christmas to give it one more go.
Never wait if you don't have to.
Christmas (literally, ish) 2015 the company i work for laid off 80% of us. spent all of 16 unemployed... mrs had fallen off the wagon but progressed on to heroin...
jan 17 started new job at old company in new location, a month later mrs o.d's and lets the cat out of the bag about the whole 'off the wagon' thing. she didnt die... is back on the wagon... #We'llSee
That's a tough row to hoe.
My experience with The Program is that "it works if you work it". She's obviously in a lot of pain. The fact that you're still sticking it out says a lot. My buddy lost his wife a few years ago to an opioid o.d. (possibly
serotonin syndrome, that part is hazy); I warned him what was coming, but he was like "she's a grown woman, she just needs to grow up" ..... 4yrs later, he still cries himself to sleep most nights blaming himself.
Everything (good or bad) is a gift, so Congratulations on your bountiful blessings
