Depression-induced rambling ahead. Normally I wouldn't share but eh, maybe it'll be cathartic.

(click to show/hide)
:hug

Out of curiosity, what kind of job are you looking for?

Entry-level software development, or software testing, with a bachelor's in computer science. ... Someplace I can successfully survive without driving, and preferably not working independently (my uncle's gotten burned by consulting work before and it seems to require repeated networking).  :)  Located in Michigan right now, somewhat holding off on applying to California places til I'm actually forced to move next door.
One of these days, I'm going to manage to recruit someone from here to my company. Damn my low-population density location.  ;) Michigan might be tough for any sort of computer-related job, though I'll admit I don't know much about the job market there (other than that Detroit is a crappy place to get any sort of job).

How flexible are you about the type of job you get? Lots of companies have trouble getting people to fill low level IT jobs, and in my experience most people who can do software development (at any level) can also do the sort of IT work that large offices generally require (network problems, boss with a virus, etc.).
Aside from one specific company that I've been avoiding due to location in downtown Detroit, it's mostly been Detroit area - Ford in Dearborn (would be great due to could commute with aunt and live in ann arbor if it was over $12/hour), some places in Auburn Hills, Farmington Hills, Sterling Heights, and so forth.

Where's your location? I've been considering places I wouldn't have thought, once I've dug deep enough to find there are some actual solutions for those without a car.

I'm generally a lot less confident about IT positions where I'm not sure I know the skills, or that involve using phones in a way other than conferencing. Would certainly consider, unsure how/what to look for or how to present myself for.
I'm in Utah, so you probably don't want to move unless you're certain of a job.  :lmao But I do know that the job market for computer types is relatively healthy here. As to not knowing the skills - well, frankly, I could do the job of some of our IT guys (with the help of google, so... yeah, they might be faster, but I could still do it!), and I'm a humanities schlub.

Hmm ... sounds like it might be somewhere to look into after I've moved to Nevada, if that happens, rather than before.  :p Location's going to be closer to California, but still a state away opposed to half a continent.

If you move to Texas I can probably help you find a job, but that's a bit of a relocation.

There's apparently some nice game-dev opportunities in Texas right now (which might help lure in my friend in software engineering...), and a surprising number of my online-friends are there. The state scares me a bit in general, but with a tantalizing enough opportunity the positives might outweigh that.

I'm relocating from Michigan to Nevada if I don't find something somewhere else. If it isn't outside the US, it's probably not too much of a relocation in comparison, but on the other hand, I'm probably not going to move to Texas except after a job.  :p

Texas isn't as scary as we're made out to be, nobody is going to ride up on his horse and shoot you or anything..  I don't have any game-development contacts (my one experience of working for a video game company was a contract position that ended poorly because the company didn't make as much money as expected), but I do work for a software company so could point you in a few directions if need be.  I can also point you at specific job listings in general if I can remember most of my job searches.  I'm a systems administrator so I did a lot of looking into IT companies.

Also I'm pretty awesome to hang out with.   :lol

Heh, while I have friends and family into gamedev it isn't so much my skillset, more of those are the jobs I wound up passing down the network when glancing into Texas.  :)  Anything to look into for entry-level for a computer science graduate (me) or experienced for an Oracle DBA (my dad) would be appreciated, certainly.

We just hired a DBA actually.

Hmm, I'll poke around and see what I can find.  I probably won't get a chance until Friday or early next week though.

Global warming is very likely to trigger our entry into the next ice age, and this could be in a sudden, abrupt, and dramatic fashion. Yay! (OK, a bit of an exageration)

How can we go into the next ice age when we technically haven't left the last one?

I want to play a Vow of Peace Savage Bard raised by Celestial Alpaca. Why.

Because you've yet to realize what devils alpaca really are.

They are definitively nicer than llama. Celestial alpaca would be amazing. As would celestial sheep. HEAVENLY FLUFFINESS.

I have cousins who raise alpaca. I visit them from time to time. Every visit involves being charged at, headbutted in the groin (playfully, but the full-grown ones still cause an ache) and bitten. They (alpaca, that is) are the fucking DEVIL.

Right. I'm putting something on Pastebin. This is going to take a while, so bear with me.

My kitty has an abscessed front paw and a mild fever.
