Is aristocrat OK for the NPC class at 1st level? I'm thinking my guy is going to be styled after batman. :P

Would there be a place for a banker/moneychanger in this little town? I was thinking of putting ranks in Forgery (to counter it), and taking Inquisitor for a big Sense Motive check.

Edit: Oooh, or how about a lawman? Or the mayor's kid? Etc?

Edit2: Went with "son of the Sheriff". Hope that's OK. If not, I can change it. He's going to have a total stick up his ass, a lot like Sturm Brightblade from the Dragonlance novels (but not that stupid), so be forewarned. :P

Since I'm a shepherd is it alright if I start with a few bedgraggled sheep instead of whatever commoner starting gold is?

A few questions about swapping out/adding powers to Ardent Mantles:

1) Can I pick up Share Pain instead of Inflict Pain in the Pain and Suffering Mantle?

2) I'd also like to add Decerebrate to that mantle, as it has no 7th or 8th level powers at all.

3) Could I add Form of Doom to the Physical Power mantle as it lacks 4th, 6th, and 9th level powers? I'd like to also add something at 4th, but I'm avoiding Metamorphosis, and nothing else seems appropriate...

4) I'd like to add Personal Mind Blank at 7th to Freedom, as it lacks a 7th level power, and that seems somewhat appropriate.

5) I'd also like to add Dimension Slide as a 3rd level power to Freedom, as it also lacks any at that level and that one fits the theme very well.

You realize Mantles are not Domains, including the fact power level/number of powers award has no standard other than six or more, they are intentionally designed to be the (overly) complex Known mechanic unique to the Ardent right?

So I'm fine with swapping Powers away for others that match in concept. But outright adding to your Power Knowns on a whim, not so much. You may have good reasons for it, but it's a little to close to "lets fix the classes".

The IC thread is pretty slow going for some reason. I was kind of hoping the rest would kind of sound off?

They were left blank for no good reason at all, except laziness. Mark Jindra flat suggests adding powers known to the ones that are missing them, in addition to swapping them out if you feel something fits the theme better.

Quote
Substitute Powers

Considering the esoteric nature of mantles, different ardents may have the same mantle but have different powers available to them. A mantle can have no more than ten powers in it, and if it has fewer, add further powers to fill the gaps if that mantle has no powers of that level. The powers need to fit the theme of the mantle at the DM's discretion. Otherwise, you can substitute a power of equal or lesser level. For example, the sense danger* power could be added to the Fate mantle as a 3rd-level power since only seven powers and no 3rd-level powers are in it, or the faint memory* power could replace escape detection in the Deception mantle.
I was pretty much following his advice verbatim with my suggestions.

Having said that, I don't really care at all about any of the powers I suggested to add/substitute except Share Pain (swapped for Inflict Pain). So if that one is OK, that's fine with me.

Yeah you can swap just fine.

I know you guys would probably like an update so I'll roll one out tomorrow.

Pace wise I'd like to keep things going at a decent pace, PBP games are slow and it bugs me to think stuff is hung up because of me. So if anyone has thoughts on the matter of leaving people behind or being left behind. Now would be a good time to share them. Otherwise, I'm just going to shoot for trucking on through the out of combat stuff as fast as the active posters and me can do it.

I wasn't sure whom of us sees/knows whom, and didn't see any real reason to post more at the moment. Was kind of just waiting to see what other people (including you) had to contribute. :P
