Anyone else doing anything or sitting back waiting for some prompting from me?

Also kind of need Amercha's character(s) to start the 4th level thread. Have you made any headway in the last month?

I am unable to post much for at least two weeks.
I don't pee messages into the snow often , but when I do , it's in Cyrillic with Fake Viagra.  Stay frosty my friends.

Good news is, I don't think that matters all to much.

Old news to me since I got the response when I sent out that PMs to everyone but Amechra don't have time to post.

Once the Fantasy Star stuff dies down going to post for additional recruitment. Maybe it'll bring more life in here.

I noticed the recruitment post and have been kicking around possible builds.

Would a Spellshaper of some stripe be allowed or is that likely to reach the overloading level of homebrew?

Or actually... how about SirP's Shadowcaster. Would that be less homebrewyish than a spellshaper?

*sees the book of homebrew* Ummm... You know, SirP's stuff tends to be pretty good.

SirP's work on shadowcaster is superb as usual. Unfortunately, he didn't write the mysteries so those still kinda suck (well, the apprentice level ones do. It picks up a bit after that.)

I may go Shadowcaster anyway. How much combat do you expect us to see in the lv4 part of the campaign?

It's been so slow I *might* have gotten carried away.

lv4's set up is a little more focused now. It'll be school based and I won't be condescending and talking down to you via NPCs, instead classes will be glazed over with the exception of the practicable adventures. There is an area filled with sand and a very DM bloated Sand-Shaper which will serve as the excuse for having an X-Men danger room class. It'll be a combination puzzle-dungeon and fighting summonable stuff. However failing is only worth bad marks on your grade and there are only so many CR 5 or less summonables. so it's not a very serious play.

You'll also have a couple of class mates that have real stat blocks, each one using some homebrew I've cooked up and never posted because the "rules" for them are about a paragraph long. Their main role in class is either to challenge you (some dungeons allow you to grief other teams) and can operate like selectable people to fill a team at times.

So yes. Combat is expected. But the teachers are there to teach not kill you. And the dungeons will greatly range.

Outside of class, and this will tie into what's really going on in the small town, something attacks the school from within. You'll notice NPCs change behaviors and such. I haven't decide if your classmates will try to murder you or not at some point. Playing with the idea. :D

Sounds like fun. Currently thinking Arcane Gnome Shadowcaster, at least enough so to start putting a statblock together and see where I get.

However: There are a couple of mysteries which are made obsolete by the control light ability that SirP's shadowcaster gets at lv2. Would it be ok if I wrote alternatives which are not made irrelevant by an inherent class ability?

Specifically, I'm thinking a Ray of Enfeeblement/Clumsiness effect and a make a trip attempt at range using Int effect.

EDIT: To what extent does the lv1 statblock have to correspond to the later statblocks? I know the class level will be retrained, and in the case of the character I'm in the process of building, that may well mean going to 2 skill points/lv from 6 skill points/lv. May I take skills at lv1 that I will not have at later levels and just have lost them in the retraining?

On a similar note, could I take the Mercantile Background feat at lv1 (I'd like to do some fooling around with Craft(Alchemy)) and have retrained it by lv4?

Are traits allowed, or only flaws?

Creation reminder(s)
PB 34, all WotC offical with Dragon/Homebrew by permission (please don't overload me), standard WBL, moderation optimization, Flaws need to be a Flaw rather than silly number you ignore. Age penalties & bonuses are taken by choice and permanent when done so (ie lv4 has +1 mental, then level 9 would too).

Think I sort of banned Planetouched, anything that eats humanoids, and animating corpses. And I never finished the Affiliations thing to replace Alignments. So just put in the back of your mind that the eight traits are: Compassion, Honesty, Honor, Humility, Justice, Sacrifice, Spirituality, Valor. I got a couple examples up through. With any lucky you'll be going whoop-di-do, their not that great. :)

The virtues being functionally the traits for this campaign is cool and makes sense. I rather like the ones you've written up so far, though you're right that none of them are particularly mechanically powerful. They're still plenty flavorful.

The rest I had encountered while reading up on the campaign. Will avoid eating humanoids, touching planes, and animating corpses (though, if you ate the humanoids, their corpses wouldn't really be in a fit state to animate, now would they?)

EDIT: Is InnaBinder still in the game?

Didn't see the edit. idk? I thought so.

Also if you're wondering what to do at the door, just to give you some ideas you could relay what you heard, knock on it, kick it down, heck if you want Hier to tackle you to the ground set it on fire.

Had a terrible weekend at work and I've come down with a cold, my ingenuity is wiped for the moment. You can start in on the level 4 thread bantering back and forth if you like though.

Publicly your invite reason was clearing up a pirate ring and you're not allowed to indulge much beyond that. Feel free to use this thread to discuss the virtues as well. Compassion was tweaked to ensure that if someone wanted to pick up it up you'd have some form of freebie healing.

The "Core" has a different name and will actually be the group behind the 9th level dungeon run as they will need your help to retrieve the McGruffin.

Level 4 is Galen's weak spot.  Now I have to figure out why he's so...all over the place, and also pick a specialty.  Hmmm, maybe I'll sell part of my soul to the DM.

Same as the MiC :)
Weapon/Armor/Shield/Ability/Natural Enhance & Deflection bonuses. Just instead of freebie merging into any item, it's added to you. Subject to typical Antimagc/Disjunction rules like any other item enhancement.
