Recent talk regarding vow of poverty has made me wonder about putting a price on the inability to be separated from your items. Here's one possible implementation.
Tattoo of Assimilation
Price (Item Level): ? gp (?th)
Body Slot: -
Caster Level: ?th
Aura: ?; (DC ?) transmutation
Activation: Standard (mental)
Weight: -
Each tattoo of assimilation is keyed to a single body slot. When you're wearing a magic item on the corresponding body slot, you can activate the tattoo to absorb the item. You can only store one item in this manner per tattoo. If you absorb a second item when a first is already stored, the first item is expelled. You can also activate the tattoo to expel an item without absorbing a new one. When an item is expelled, it appears worn on your body, or it falls to the ground at your feat if it cannot currently be worn.
An item stored in a tattoo of assimilation continues to provide benefits as if you were wearing it, except benefits derived from the physical structure of the item, such as the bonus to AC from armor. It also continues to occupy the corresponding body slot, so you can't benefit from another item worn on the same slot. The tattoo is suppressed in an antimagic field, or if the it is the target of a successful dispel magic attempt (treat it as a worn item). When suppressed, you don't gain any benefits from a stored item, and you can't absorb or expel items. Suppressing a tattoo does not cause the stored item to be expelled.
The tattoo of assimilation must be placed on or near the part of the body corresponding to the body slot the tattoo is keyed to. You can't have more than one tattoo of assimilation keyed to the same body slot. You can have two tattoos keyed to rings slots, because you have two separate rings slots.
When a creature with one or more tattoos of assimilation dies, all the tattoos expel their stored items. If a tattoo is suppressed at the time the creature dies, it instead expels its item as soon as it ceases to be suppressed.
Prerequisites: Craft wondrous item, alter self.
Cost to Create: ???
So, how many gold pieces should something like that cost, or should it even be available for purchase?
